I Was Married to a Con Man

I Was Married to a Con Man

Commented Aug 6, 2012 at 13:41:49 in Divorce

“Oh, sadly, unless you've been the victim of a con artist you have no idea. I'm supposed to be pretty smart (so my IQ and job says), but I was conned big time by my daughter's father. It was ugly, nasty and many years ago, and I still have trust issues with men. It's amazing how good they are, because they have absolutely no conscience. Yes, there are clues, but they are small and when you love someone, somehow they aren't very clear. Oh, in retrospect they are glaring, but at the time . . . not at all. What I loved was all the people who said "oh, I always knew something was wrong with him" when in fact they were his biggest fans/cheerleaders during our marriage. They didn't know any more than I did, but it was easy for them to claim they did. Again, until you've had it happen to you, you have no idea how easy it is to be duped.”

“First, let me say how sorry I am for the awful things you endured after (and probably during) your marriage. When they say "The wife is the last to know," I think they're right, and I have no doubt you have a very high IQ. When you love someone, I think that love blinds us at times, unfortunately. And for people to come up to you after the fact and say they knew, is disgusting. But what I meant in my post is HOW did this guy get away with have two families in the same town and not get caught? Maybe it was like your situation. People saw it but never told the wife. But I stand by what I said about Hillary. She absolutely knew about Bill but didn't care. She was in it for the political gain and that's it. She just became livid when it all broke loose. I hope you've gone on with your life and are happy. And for what it's worth, I do know how easy it is to be duped...”
