Sen. Kyl Not Sure People Die From Lack of Health Insurance
Commented Oct 19, 2009 at 14:05:35 in Politics
“What???!!!! No doctor has ever saved a life? Really?
If you prevent someone from dying via an organ transplant or an emergency operation or through medicine, YOU ARE SAVING A LIFE.
Yes, eventually we all will die, seeing as we are mortal, but postponing death is indeed saving a life.
By your twisted logic and word mincing, are you implying that sick people should not seek medical attention because they will eventually die anyway? What utter nonsense.”

“You can't prevent someone from dying any more
than you can 'cause' someone to be born.
Organ transplants can prolong a life, postpone
a death, and if it works, it does so with the permission
of the recipient.
Postponing a death is NOT saving a life if that person
wanted to die. And that is something no one will EVER
know if they don't talk to the patient about dying!
"By your twisted logic and word mincing, are you
implying that sick people should not seek medical
attention because they will eventually die anyway?
What utter nonsense."
Your conclusion is a non-sequitur. It is obvious that you
have no empathy for people. 'Sick' people do have a
problem and seeking "attention" is one way to solve
the problem. The person should be listened to and
the problem determined, whether by a medical doctor
or by a family member or by a psychiatrist, someone
should listen!
But, as long as you "believe" in pills and operations
and the medical system then by all means you should
seek it out and accept the rewards it gives you.”

“As far as Wall street bankers who are "decent", their silence about their bad coworkers before, during and after the bailout amounts to aiding and abetting. Until they turn in the bad apples, they are just as guilty and deserve no sympathy.
Also, the only reasons their firms haven't gone under is because of the largess of the American taxpayer - that's the only reason they still have high-paying jobs. Any whining on their part is an insult.”

It does not follow that the effort to provide his release was also politically and economically motivated. In the natural course of justice in Scotland, if he was any other prisoner, he would have been released.
It is people who opposed his release that lobbied for an exception.”

90% Tax? Now, We Really are Screwed

“The guy who wrote this is out of touch, and completely misses the bigger picture. The system has failed. Now we are being told that the only way to save it is with public funds. The problem is, how do you convince the public that the system is worth saving when it only seems to reward rich, greedy jerks?
The AIG bonuses were the spark that ignited a lot of pent up populist rage. And it is a justifiable rage. Yes the AIG bonuses constitute a small fraction of the bail out, but they perfectly represent what is wrong with the current system. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.
The real crime however was passing a bailout bill that had a compensation clause with absolutely no teeth and doing this counter to the public's obvious wishes. Washington, including Obama I hate to say, are just as much to blame as the folks at AIG. Now they are trying to act like no one saw something like this coming, and throwing together some silly measure to rectify their mistake.
The populist rage tax seems like typical Washington nonsense, but at least it shows that maybe the clowns in DC are finally listening to the people and not the lobbyists.

The 52 months of growth you mention were a bubble. It popped - as all bubbles do - and all the gains were erased and then some by the time Bush left office. The end result is negative growth. He set us way back. Period. Take a math class.
And I'm not kidding.”

They built a big store here right before the economic meltdown, hired a bunch of new people, trumpeted as helping our town, and now, just a few months later, many of those have been fired already because of lack of business (so they say). My choice is being limited, as the other grocery store in town is in trouble now. So, I will have to spend gas and drive out of town to get stuff I really need and prefer. I hate thinking of the money outside of low local wages, is being directed to Bentonville Arkansas to fund these people who hate workers. "Wal-Mart Family" is a myth.
By the way, the Walmart family is building a huge underground bunker for them to escape into and haul their art collection to when either their world crumbles or ours. Apparently, the selfish kids of Sam think they can take it with them.”

I found out that they pay poor wages, treat their employees poorly, they commission name brand merchandise to be made to a lower standard of quality, they put returned defective merchandise back on the shelf.
Back then they advertised everthing made in USA. Right next to the USA sign I picked up a pair of boots that were made in China. I was poor then, but decided I would rather go without than give money to a sleazy company like Wal-Mart.”

The bottom line is they work for a company that got itself into trouble and is relying on the American public to rescue them. Whether or not it is their individual faults is incidental. They need to make sacrifices like everyone else in this country, or they can go look for other jobs. Good luck finding them.
