“just a little curious that getting to the brink of health care reform warrants opposition adds but Afghanistan drags on for 7 years and we have virtual silence.”

nekoxgirl replied on Dec 25, 2009 at 16:12:54

“Obama said in his campaign he wanted to continue the war in Afghanistan. Although I don't agree with that decision, its not like he wasn't honest about doing it in 2008. Obama did campaign on a public option with no mandates though. So why shouldn't we be mad when tries to sell us no public option and mandates?”

“I think we should ditch this bill and wait for the Progressives to deliver something.”

PWM replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 12:16:22

“Such things take time. Even Canada and the UK did not have universal health care overnight. This bill is a public acknowledgement that the present system is broken - that is a major historical event.”

AllenD replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 11:50:05

“The last time we tried something was 1993. I don't care to wait until 2025 for us to try something. Pass the current bill, then pass a budget that allows for a public option/medicare expansion then pass a narrowly focused bill on those items using reconciliation. Now that the reforms are in place, the "Swiss cheese" argument against suing reconciliation is moot. If I were the Democrats, I would run in 2012 on a Medicare 55 platform.”

yweston replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 11:38:39

“Well apparently you're healthy and another 14 year wait isn't going to affect you or people you care about. Because Republicans could care less about people without access to medical care. Did they even talk about healthcare reform in the past (8) years. However, people with pre-existing conditions and people with no healthcare may not agree with your comment.”

jmpurser replied on Dec 24, 2009 at 11:25:19

“Agreed. This bill, if passed, will have to be undone before we make actual progress on health care reform.”
