Achievement Gap Persists For Low-Income Students While Competing Philosophies Vie For Influence

Commented Jun 23, 2012 at 18:08:09 in Education

“You took the words right out of my mouth. As a former educator I can safely say that the so called education being presented in the inner city of America is wholly inadequate. The math, and science components are almost always missing or covered superficially which result in these students not being able to pursue a career in engineering, sciences, or mathematics. You can see this by the number of minorities with useless Sociology degrees. Our education system is still separate but unequal in 2012 and until this is addressed honestly and the problems rectified we will continue to fall behind other countries who really do educate their best and brightest to the highest extent possible. We as a country are scared to educate the so called underclass or minorities because we fear that they will rise up and displace us, this fear is the root of this inequity and will not be easily overcome with our current head in the sand approach to racial/social issues in this country.”

“Inner city education problems stem from unstable families and an overall lake of respect for education. Do you know how many students don't do homework, classwork, or projects on time and yet people wonder why 9th grade students are performing at the 5th grade level. They have the same coursework offered but overtime as the years go on it gets watered down because they are not performing at grade level. Algebra 2 becomes watered down due to the overall efforts-not teachers expectations. What teacher doesn't want their students to do well?”

“Maybe the problem is that all students are not equal in ability.”

Obama Gay Marriage Support Leaves Black Churches Conflicted

Obama Gay Marriage Support Leaves Black Churches Conflicted

“Black people and churches need to be more intelligent. You don't have to agree with anyone on all issues. So Democrats and President Obama are the logical choice. Republicans will bible thump you back into slavery if they could. They have you addressing moral issues to steer you away from the real issues which are lack of opportunities, dismantling of the public school system, and lack of healthcare. Also, these Republicans will throw anyone off of welfare or Social Security if they could. Black people don't be so gullible. Sometimes a politician has to play the game, and we need to be more sophisticated and understand this.”

“WELL I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THER WILL BE A DISCUTION IF WELLFARE WILL PAY FOR AIDS TREATMENT! YOU DECIDE TO BE GAY, AND GET AIDS, THAT SHOULD BE YOUR PROBLEM, NOT THE TAX PAYERS!”

“Your views show how you minimize blacks, which is grossly unfair and way unintelligent. The black community are very capable of making sound decisions just like anyone else, but your ignorance shows you have no understanding of them at all. They are a deeply religious folk, devoted to family life which also displays itself in their extended families. They happen to be extremely moral, and not prone to influence. Black people are not 'so gullible' as you accuse them of being......and I can say this wholeheartedly being 1/2 black myself and a Conservative Independent. Go take some cultural anthropology courses or something.”

“I agree and hope others pay close attention to the tricks of the rebublican party. they just use religion as a lure to snag the white uneducated poor voters who can't think for themselves, and as a result, vote against there own interest.”
