Why America Needs Trains

Why America Needs Trains

Commented Jan 07, 2010 at 04:00:45 in Politics

“Get the economy going. I resent having to drive everywhere. Why don't we have more trains within our cities and between our cities and states? It would be worth the trillion or two dollars spent to have a modern train system. We should have trains like China is building.

In Canada, they had a train system which serviced some very remote areas. The train system did not by itself cover its costs. For this reason, they shut down its service. The problem is that people depended on it, especially tourists who enjoyed the traveling through mountains. This caused the whole economies of towns on the train routes to fail. People have to look at all the cost benefits before they start trying to look at the cost negatives.”

What Does $22 Billion in Goldman Bonuses Buy?

What Does $22 Billion in Goldman Bonuses Buy?

Commented Jan 05, 2010 at 12:04:26 in Business

“How about going back to the days where the CEO could only make the amount of a certain multiple of the lowest paid employee. I think it was 50. When people are making thousands of times the lowest paid employee, I think 200 times the lowest paid would be generous. Since we have been taken off the gold standard, we have to institute controls. I suggest you look up Michael Ruppert, the detective who helped bust Iran Contra, and see the extent of the corruption on Wall St. It was the Blackwater CEO, which has ties with the CIA, who was the highest paid CEO, was it last year or the year before?

I believe that the whole S&L scandal was caused because the CIA was busted dealing drugs and therefore could not fulfill the promises made to investors that they used to launder their money through. Singlaub, McCain, and Keating were all friends.

What Does $22 Billion in Goldman Bonuses Buy?

Commented Jan 05, 2010 at 10:40:38 in Business

“Everybody must see these statistics. Thank you for the work you do.

Questions:

What do you think about William K. Black's statement that the financial crisis was caused by "mass corruption"? What do you think about Michael Ruppert's documentation of how deep the corruption goes? Are you aware that AIG was brought here from China by Kenneth Starr's uncle who worked closely with the OSS/CIA, who have had a cozy, close relationship with that bank and its relationship with GS ever since? Why are people like John Deutch and Allen Stanford from the CIA made CEO's of major banks like Citigroup?”

hp blogger Norb Vonnegut replied on Jan 05, 2010 at 11:27:30

“Actually, there are plenty of good people in financial services. I worked with many through the years and don't regard over-the-top bonuses as pandemic corruption. I just think bankers need a reality check. Goldman's 2009 profits have less to do with performance and more to do with rescue packages from many different governments.

Years ago, somebody at Goldman coined the expression "long-term greedy" to describe the ethos of always doing the right thing for clients. But "short-term greedy" invites public outrage and government intervention, which if mishandled, could undermine the ability of US financial institutions to compete in the global markets.

That's the problem with Catch-22 Billion.”

Dick Cheney's Role in Al Qaeda's Yemeni Resurgence

Commented Jan 04, 2010 at 17:55:51 in World

“There has to be a point that we have to recognize that the "errors" of the Bush administration are so great, so numerous, and so consistent that it warrants an investigation into the worst possibility, that forces in our government find terrorism favorable for them; that things were allowed to happen; that things were even instigated or planned by forces in government who have a known criminal record such as the CIA. The fact that all terrorists who have gotten far in their efforts have been associated with or known about by us should be enough to warrant an investigation by itself. If you take the time to read all the different warnings the Bush administration had, you will find it impossible to believe how these warnings could be ignored and how easily the attacks could have been stopped.”

2009: The Things I Want to Forget

Commented Dec 28, 2009 at 16:08:47 in Home

“Things not to be forgotten:

The fact that Obama has people drug criminals from IranContra running things in Afghanistan i.e. Gates.

The fact that we have gone from getting 0% of our heroine from Afghanistan to 40% since we got there.

The fact that since we got there they are growing more heroine than ever before in their country's history.

The fact that there is something that I am not allowed to say, but if you want to find out, all you have to do is google CIA Mumbai Denmark agent.

The fact that Geithner worked for the war criminal Kissinger who has been caught on tape planning the coup in Chile, the fact that Tim reduced the capital needed to run a bank, tft his management in the international crises of 90s in Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, and Thailand was a disaster every time, tft he worked with Paulson to save AIG so that it could save Goldman Sachs, while letting Lehman Brothers to fall apart, and tft he lied to get confirmed about unpaid taxes. All of this, but Obama rewards him with even more influence.

The fact that nobody is talking about the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.”

“It would be brilliant if after they passed this, they expanded Medicare to compete with the insurance companies through reconciliation. However, I am doubtful because since the 80s most legislation has been made to seem one way to help people when, in all actuality, it was meant to do the opposite, and seemingly simple things have been given the lamest excuses for why they can never be passed. That is when I realized there was more to the story.”

An Inglorious End to the Promise of Reform

An Inglorious End to the Promise of Reform

Commented Dec 22, 2009 at 20:36:17 in Politics

“I really believe that there were some major poison pills in this bill that will threaten the progressive's legitimacy in trying to improve the market place and government. After engineering this grand theft, the Republicans will try to hide that they were behind these pills, and after the public becomes very angry, they will be there to say I told you so, even though they engineered its failure in the first place.

It does not matter how big or how small an organization is or what you call it, socialism, capitalism, democracy, monarchy, liberal, conservative, or republic, what matters is how well an organization is run.

Allowing people to run away with our subsidized funds who have always been the problem shows a corrupt system and corrupt systems don't run well.”

“Doctors and nurses know best.

What we are doing is enabling a system that does not work, the giving of responsibility to people who time and again have shown themselves untrustworthy, and willfully ignorant of the hippocratic oath. Every penny that goes to profit could have gone to save someone's life. They should be sworn to the same responsibilities as doctors.

If we give these leaches ever more power over the purse strings of this country, how more absolute will their power be? If we are having such a difficult time with the dollars they spend on lobbying now, how much worse will it be when they have even more? If our society was running better when they had much less of a percentage of our GNP, then why would giving them more make things better?

During the last oil crisis, Exxon had record profits while our economy was beginning to fall apart. Don't tell me that there is not cause and effect when certain industries do their best only when the country in general is suffering at its worst.”
