Questions Surrounding Dobbs' Gunfire Incident Cast Doubt on CNN's Credibility

Why Obama Should Not Have Received the Peace Prize -- Yet

Commented Oct 12, 2009 at 17:14:07 in Politics

“It is obvious that the far-left Nobel peace committee attempted to tie Obama's hands regarding his future decisions. Russian President Medvedev was the only statesman in the world who applauded this award. That proves it.

Obama played it cool. He thanked them politely, and announced that the money will go to charity. Well done!”

Truthtalker1963 replied on Oct 12, 2009 at 18:59:59

“Well, we also have Chavez who loves the guy, Castro who's using his inexperience and buffonery as a propagand piece, Iran's nuts doing the same, and of course, Ghadafi, who wasn't Obama to be President forever. All we lack is N. Korea's support and we have a full house!”

Trublulu replied on Oct 12, 2009 at 17:41:09

“So now the Norwegians on the Nobel Peace Committee are "lefties"? And, no, the Russian President was not the only statesman who applauded our president's award. There were very nice words from the German Chancellor. Maybe she just appreciated the fact that President Obama did try to give her a back massage as did Mr. Bush.”

Gay Rights Speech: What Should Obama Say Tonight?

Commented Oct 07, 2009 at 21:30:47 in Politics

“The Germans held an election last month and elected the liberal FDP party headed by a gay man. But the socialist Mayor of Berlin is gay, too. All the Germans are presently worried about is whether their newly elected Foreign Minister knows enough English, not that he is also gay. I think former Canadian prime minister Trudeau had it right when he proclaimed that the government has absolutely no business in the bedrooms of the nation. The brilliant Democratic chairman of the House Finance Committee is gay. Does that make him less brilliant? Grow up, people !!!”

A Sign of the Times

Commented Sep 13, 2009 at 10:11:15 in Politics

“Begala is right. What happened to the glorious past of the party of Abraham Lincoln? How could patriotic Republicans allow a bunch of racist kooks to take over the reign of their party? The message of screeching demagogues is not what the old GOP used to stand for. Putting up an unstable old man as candidate may have been a strategic error that everyone regrets, but it goes much deeper. After all, the pathetic roster of white male hasbeens that were presented to the primary voters did not give them much of a choice. Yet it isn't that the Republicans have no good candidates available. The point is merely that the party insiders did not put them up.”

texterdexter replied on Sep 13, 2009 at 11:41:53

“I'm really mystified by what "good old days" Republicans remember. The name "James Watt" ring a bell with anyone? Fundamentalist insanity has been cooking in the GOP for a long, long time.”

Downix replied on Sep 13, 2009 at 10:42:06

“It began in the 50's, with the Dixiecrats. Democrats shut-out their right-wing nutzos. Those shut-out formed their own party. Now, the Republican leadership sought out and won over many of them, thanks in part to Reagan led efforts, thinking that more votes is always good. They never realized that by unifying both parties right-wing radicals would unbalance and undermine their own party structure.”

Commented Sep 11, 2009 at 18:15:05 in World

“Of course there were acts of terrorism before, even against the US in various places around the world. In fact, the World Trade Center itself had been attacked before by people residing right in New York City. Vigilance is obviously the best prevention. Still, the restrictions put on the Canadian border are excessive. No terrorists ever came from Canada. The 9/11 terrorists had boarded those four planes in US airports.

It was Bill Clinton who had drastically reduced the budget of the CIA before 9/11, preventing them from finding out about terrorists' plans.”

Candidate Clinton Was Not a Victim of Sexism But Secretary Clinton Is

Commented Aug 14, 2009 at 10:38:29 in Politics

“Candidate Hillary ran her campaign on sexism. "Go, girl, go!" shouted her feminist friends. She ran as the wronged wife of a popular President, and she (or rather her handlers) believed that she could succeed by exactly repeating the 16-year old winning strategy of her husband. THAT was her real mistake. As Axelrod revealed a few weeks ago, Obama's winning strategy was NOT to run against Hillary but against George W. Bush. "Always think what Bush would do, and then do the opposite." That is why he won.

Hillary is not a "victim" of anything. But when she travels into different societies of the world, she will encounter centuries-old cultures that have different systems. She should not expect them to change for her benefit.”

NeoconGal replied on Aug 15, 2009 at 00:14:35

The Answer Man: Bill Clinton's Comeback

Commented Aug 05, 2009 at 09:05:48 in Politics

“"Like James Bond without the killing." That is exactly it. Bill just loves being roving ambassador -- it is a brilliant move by Obama. Watch him being sent on similar "private" visits, maybe to Cuba or Venezuela, perhaps even Iran? He will always be welcome because foreign leaders with no diplomatic relations with the US will welcome the opportunity to send a confidential message back”

The Answer Man: Bill Clinton's Comeback

Commented Aug 05, 2009 at 08:52:48 in Politics

“Another brilliant move by Obama that simultaneously solves a whole lot of problems. Bill loves nothing better than being used as roving Ambassador. Obama needs somebody he can trust to go on delicate "private" missions to places where there are no diplomatic channels, such as Cuba, Venezuela, and dare I say it, Iran? An envoy with the prestige of a former President is always welcome, because the leaders of those countries also welcome a chance to deliver a "private message" to Obama, which gives them deniability. Jimmy Carter tried to play that role in the past, but not nearly as well as Bill can.”

“How much longer?”

kevinabt replied on Jul 30, 2009 at 15:52:02

“The longer life span could be due to better diet and exercise. Quality and availability of treatment after your sick there may be worse, but if you stay healthier due to your life style you can still live longer. It might be the case that if Americans on average ate less junk food and exercised more they would live even longer than Canadians. Very difficult to tell though.

Comparing average life expectancy is not a direct reflection on only the quality of health care.”

Why Visiting Pompeii Has Me Thinking About the Smoke Billowing Out of Our Economic Mt. Vesuvius

Commented Jul 21, 2009 at 14:54:53 in Business

“When everybody panics but you don't, perhaps you don't understand the gravity of the situation. The reason why so few people were killed in Pompeji is that the city was destroyed a few years earlier by an earthquake, and it was still a big construction site when the volcano erupted before most former inhabitants had moved back. Also, it had been a resort town, and who would want to spend their vacation in a ruined city? Except the G-8, of course.”

High Expectations for Obama's Speech in Egypt

High Expectations for Obama's Speech in Egypt

Commented May 30, 2009 at 14:24:10 in World

“Egypt is the largest Arab nation, and it is one of the least radicalized. Most Egyptians would prefer to show goodwill toward the United States, but we have not made that easy for them. Our half century of constant meddling on the side of Israel in what they consider purely regional affairs has disappointed them. But they still hope that Obama will bring change. If he doesn't, they will once again be severely disappointed which could have serious consequences in the entire Islamic world.”

karela replied on May 30, 2009 at 15:37:18

“Egypt actually has the seventh largest Muslim population in the world. The others, in order of largest to smallest are:
Indonesia 170,310,000
Pakistan 136,000,000
Bangladesh 106,050,000
India 103,000,000
Turkey 62,410,000
Iran 60,790,000
Egypt 53,730,000
Nigeria 47,720,000
China 37,108,000

As you can see, Indonesia has well over three times as many Muslims as Egypt and Pakistan has nearly three times as many. Still, Egypt was a good choice because they are so critical. Obama has the courage to go where he ISN'T popular when he sets out to win hearts and minds.”

Accepting Torture?

In the Islamic world it is still used every day. And waterboarding is not an American invention either. In fact it was invented by the Swedish troops of King Gustav Adolph in the Thirty Years War where they called it the "Swedish Drink" and used it on thousands of Catholics.”

The Clinton Bubble

Commented Apr 29, 2009 at 17:20:25 in Business

“Obama did not change. He is exactly what he was during the election campaign, and he is attempting to fulfill every last one of his campaign promises. The problem lies with the voters. They never listened to what he said but merely applauded the way he said it. Many Blacks only voted for him because he is black, just as many Whites voted for McCain only because he is white. Anybody who believes this not a racist country anymore is sadly mistaken.

However, it could have been worse, guys. We could be stuck right now with an elderly, befuddled McCain plus a certified nutcake like Palin. At this time of crisis, all of us are better off with a young, energetic, hardworking President at the helm, no matter what party we belong to.”

jsarets replied on Apr 30, 2009 at 05:47:51

“Obama changed in June. It wasn't just to reposition himself for the general election. In order to "unite the party", he had to cozy up to the interest groups that had been expecting and planning for a Clinton presidency for years. Otherwise there would have been trouble at the convention.”

Bonobo replied on Apr 29, 2009 at 21:44:36

“My support for Obama was always with reservations. I always worried that he actually believed that unity nonsense, but I figured at least he wasn't Clinton. Oops.

I'm not so sure we're better off with a popular, vigorous president with fundamentally flawed ideas. He may turn out to be as mule-stubborn as Bush. Plus if we're going to have an economic failure from continuing the Bush-Paulson plan, wouldn't it be better to have Republicans own it totally?”
