There has been many personal trips by this president and his family before this night on the town.
Acturally, the Obamas took a little helicopter trip to Camp David about 20 days after the election, and then Airforce One to Chicago later in Feb., . That in about the first 30 days of taking office. No big deal, except it makes him no different that any other president - Bush, Clinton, Carter.

What is upsetting to people is the cost of the date, when he is telling us how we have to tighten our belts, volunteer more, don't expect to make money, etc. etc. etc. Yes, he is the president, however who better to set an example, any example. There are plenty of wonderful places in Washtington DC where they could have dined and great places of entertainment. DC is accustomed to catering to the President. No one is begrudging their date, they are questioning the cost.”

Oh, and the clothes and such were again likened to lighting and such, and they had to outfit EIGHT members total of her family, not just her. Excuse me, how many? You, your husband, five kids and the purported fiancee, I'm assuming. Lemme see. That includes the son who is currently serving in Iraq, did he really need clothes? And Trig, the infant, did he really need new clothes to show up for the convention? They had to dress the ne'er do well boyfriend as well? And you're claiming that the wardrobe was provided to you by the campaign, but John and Cindy apparently paid for their own duds? Incidentally, she also wondered aloud whether the Democrats were being asked the same question about their duds, and who paid for them.

Change the subject all you like, but they aren't being asked because THEY DIDN'T DO WHAT YOU DID.”
