Those who think that all we need to do is elect Obama and he'll be free of any constraints so that he can deliver on the progressive agenda are kidding themselves. Don't hold your breath. As soon as he's elected he'll start thinking about being re-elected and will be forever triangulating and using his liberal base as a punching bag and "fall guy." It's so Clintonesque.

Next, Obama will go sideways on the immediate withdrawal from Iraq over a 16 month period. It's like Obama has become Hillary Clinton. Her advisers are becoming is advisers. I've never seen such a quick lurch away from those that "brought ya to the dance."”

If Obama is caving now on something so fundamental (and today's Iraq equivocation is flip-flop #5 in two weeks), it means that he's done needing the pro-choice, anti-war, leftwing of the Democratic Party, and once he made it into the White House, his nominees would be in the mold of Roberts and Alito.

These moves means that he thinks, generally, that we are more soft-hearted, weak-willed, forgiving (we "discovered" him, we worked and financed him, we put him where he is), and will come around to his way of thinking, or just cave, because, "Where else do you have to go?"

In the end, it really doesn't matter what he thinks because for him to have done all of this in two weeks means he doesn't care what we do. HE DOESN'T NEED THE BASE. That's what this means. He's got new "benefactors" (money) and he's probably looking at polling that's telling him that the Christian right is his for the plucking.

We've been thrown under the bus.

“I would not be surprised at all if he were to ask Sen. Webb to run with him. The media talks about how picking another senator isn't good, or how it hasn't been done in a hundred years, etc but I don't see a problem. This would take care of the issue Obama has when it comes to the war and the military in general. That's really the only major issue that he can't seemingly cover himself.

Like said it gets him Va. most likely and it also helps Sen. Obama even more in the middle of the country as well. If the new GI Bill is passed or not, the fact that Sen. Webb is pushing it helps and makes a great non-negative ad against the Republicans.”
