“Billobasher, This bill is doomed to fail. We need to keep pushing for single payer to put an end to the craziness that is the health insurance industry and big pharma. This bill is not a start to anything. When it fails the naysayers will say, told you so and we will all be in a bigger mess. As a retired ED nurse, I have been fighting for single payer for a long time. I worked for Obama also.because he had made references to single payer for a long time. Don't have all the answers but if I could wave a magic wand, I'd love to see the USA join most of the rest of the industrialized countries and adopt single payer. Taxes or premiums, we'll all pay one way or the other.”

“So he voted to reimburse hospitals that provide care to illegals. He probably wasn't even aware of it. When people are ill and go to hospitals for care, they can't be refused. It is the moral and decent thing to do. As a nurse in an emergency room, we saw all comers. Insurance questions were asked only after the patient was triaged by a nurse. We need to do this in order to protect all of us from the spread of communicable diseases also. It is just good practice and common sense.”

“Go back and read the blurb. It said in bold letters that the money in the Medicare bill was to compensate hospitals for treating illegals. I agree with you that this is the humane thing to do. But this is a guy who has been running around his district whipping up hatred for illegal aliens and then screamed that the president was lying when the latter, truthfully, said that the proposed health care bill explicitly excludes illegals (and Section 246 of the proposed House bill explicitly excludes illegals). “Someone else mentioned this and it has been true for many years. On entry into a hospital for elective or planned surgery, questions are asked concerning what life saving measures you want done if your heart stops or you stop breathing. Sen. Grassley is using scare tactics in saying that they will pull the plug on grandma. Most hospitals have ethics committees. Nothing like this is in any of the bills. He is right on one issue. Each person should think about a living will and let family know what they want done in various circumstances at end of life. Folks who believe in "death with dignity' should be allowed their beliefs. Folks who want everything done to keep them "alive" should have that option. We can keep hearts beating and lungs working when they can't on their own. I do not call this LIFE. Quality of life trumps qantity for me.”

“What about all the people who worked in uranium mines in New Mexico?? Their claims also have been denied. Some of these miners were WWII vets and their sons. The vets were denied VA benefits because their illnesses where not service related. Many of these men were Navajos and the Indian Health system was not of much help either.
