“As you look at the post on this page, one thing stands out.
The country that score 31st in math is the one full of manmade climate change deniers.”

“And why do you suppose we have dropped to 31st in math?”
Greg Polakow on Dec 6, 2013 at 07:24:17
“Yes. And Arbruzzo is probably one of the people dragging the score down. What political favor is being paid off with this appointment? Maybe he could be a file clerk somewhere where there are no files.”

“said another way, the country that scores 31st in math (down from 2nd before the department of education was created) is full of global warming zealots.”
“When local school boards are being high jacked by creationist, climate and science deniers and right wing history revisionist and people who want to put their god into our schools , we need federal standers.”

“The other end of the spectrum, definitely. Public Education needs to meet the needs of all, not just some.”
“Obviously it isn't, because it is a fact that many people report that prayer helps them with their symptoms. You are denying that fact. Not off to a good start. You don't know what you are talking about. Using your parameters, there is no such thing as depression because you are only relying on the patient instead of actual tests. There is no biological proof that SSRI or MAOI therapies work other than patient reports. Same with prayer. Bigots always have very limited perception.”
“So no one explained what words like ' credible evidence' mean to you.
Or it went over your head.”

“Let me educate you. Depression can't be diagnosed with an empirical biological test. Health professionals use patient feedback to make a diagnosis. We don't know why anti-depressants work. We don't know why CBT works. But patients usually report feeling better after receiving both or either so they have become recommended treatments based on that feedback. So when many people use prayer as a treatment and they report getting better, it is assumed that the nature and action of prayer is a benefit.
Hopefully that isn't over YOUR head.”
“Sorry but an apologist empty assertions ad credence to nothing at all.”

“There here has been no decisive objection formulated against what has been presented. While name calling may assist you in your objection as a diversionary tactic, the facts of the matter still remain. The arguments in favor of their supernatural character appear to be very serious.
Another one to consider is Kibeho, Rwanda, where in August 19, 1982,:near a Catholic girl's school, in the mountainous farm terrain of deepest Africa, teh Virgin Mary appeared to three seers. She, one by one and showed each of the seers visions of a terrible event in the near future -- including terrifying images of people killing each other, bodies lying abandoned with no one to bury them, trees on fire, an open abyss, a monster, "river of blood," and decapitated heads. According to Father Gabriel Maindron -- who wrote the first widely-circulated book on the apparitions (entitled simply Kibeho) -- "the visionaries sometimes cried, their teeth chattered, they trembled. They collapsed several times with the full weight of their bodies during the apparitions, which lasted nearly eight hours without interruption. The crowd of about 20,000 present on that day was given an impression of fear -- indeed, panic and sadness.
In 1994 when ruling Hutus began a savage campaign to eradicate the Rwandan Tutsis. Three to five thousand Tutsis were reportedly slain inside a church where they sought refuge -- a building less than half a mile from the site of these apparitions. Thousand more were killed outside.”
“Hercules, Ishtar , Attis, Adonis, Osiris, Dionysus, Persephone,Odin,Ganesh, lemminkainen, and Tammuz
Not that hard to find out if you care about facts.”

“Since you care about facts…
After dying, Osiris becomes ruler of the underworld – he never rises from the dead. Dionysus, of course, is merely a rehashed version of Osiris – as is Lemminkainen. Tammuz, Ishtar, Persephone, Adonis and Attis are all considered agricultural deities -- whose travels between the worlds of life and death are timed to the annual crop cycle. None of them lived a HUMAN life and then died a human death at the hands of other humans.”
“Yes, the list of persons who died a crucifixion death and have had unusual well publicized resurrection phenomenon related to them, is -- short.?
There are lots of resurrection myths, many predating and obviously influential to the Christ myth.
And please remember that what you call ' publicized ' is really books written decades after the myth was said to have taken place be multiple unknown authors.
P.S. The burden of proof in on the person making the claim.
Until you have positive evidence for your claims, you still have nothing but assertions.”
steamchip on Nov 18, 2013 at 12:26:40
“Yes, and which of these resurrection myth participants died the horrible crucification death as depicted on the Shroud except for the One? An event which occurred decades within living memory of the resurrection event with information about it being found even in a monastery in Tibet.
And one whose Power seems to reach out even to the modern era--- Aimee Semple McPherson work, which propelled her to fame, was witnessed by more secular persons than any faith healer before or since in history, healing many 10's of thousands. Astounded news reporters who followed her around saw miraculous healings occur faster than they could write them down. The documentation is overwhelming: very sick people came to McPherson by the tens of thousands, blind, deaf, paralyzed. Many were healed, some temporarily, some the rest of their lives.
She would point to Heaven, and it was not to not Baal, Melqart, Adonis, Eshmun, Tammuz, Ra or even Dionysus she credited, it was the Lord Jesus Christ, ...He dunnit.
(read more Daniel Mark Epstein p111 ,185 Sister Aimee: The Life of Aimee Semple McPherson).
A God who did something thousands of years ago dimmed by the mists of time and generations, seems of myth and legend but when the Power seemingly reaches out and touches persons of modern times witnessed by many thousands, and hearkens back to that ancient era, it gives credence to that God.”

“can you share with us any of these "lots of resurrection myths" you're referring to?”
“Example- Someone is depressed with ocd and anxiety disorders as well. He/she may believe God from a distance, but has not been overtly religious in life. If this person decides, as part of treatment, to focus on spirituallity, he/she may find some of the issues with anxiety getting better due to a perceived lack of control shifting to an understaning of a greater control in a religious sense. Regular prayer would provide structure as well and also, during, as with meditation, the mind is refocused to something more positive. Depression, anxiety, ocd relies on neagtive rumination. Breaking the cycle with positive rumination can do wonders for mood and attitude.
So once again, just because it doesn't fit YOUR worldview doesn't mean it doesn't work for many people.”
