Palin Supporters Struggle To Explain Why They Support Palin (VIDEO)
Commented Nov 23, 2009 at 17:08:12 in Politics
“People need to understand something about Sarah Palin. She was picked to run with John McCain because- on a very superficial level- SHE IS BARACK OBAMA. Cute family, exotic background, exciting on the pulpit . The big difference is that Barack Obama is a serious politician who takes governance seriously, while Sarah Palin has very few skills past her oratorical skills and her ability to work her supporters into an angry froth.”

“Other than being a one term junior senator (of which 2 of the 4 years were spent campaigning for the presidency), what qualifications did/does Obama have. He is great to listen too, easy on the eyes, takes great Norman Rockwell family portraits and has been packaged to appeal to the 'average Joe' (well, okay not THAT Joe). What concerns me is that as a population we are so easily swayed by the delivery and so unable or willing to look at the content. This applies to both 'sides. The fact that everything now adays is on one side or the other is another big issue but off topic for this thread.”

“Boenher needs to be honest with everyone; it's not that the bill is too long. His problem is that there's a bill at all.
Everyone should write his office and tell him that if he's really worried about the bill having too many pages, then he should co-sponsor HR 676, which covers more people and is only about 30 pages. . . short enough to read while he's in the tanning booth.”

Now-ever since it was bought by NewsCorp- it's basically USA Today with a hard right-wing Op-Ed page.
I don't think it's any surprise that of the half dozen magazines and newspapers I subscribe to, the 2 that provide the most as far as investigative journalism is concerned are both non-profit: The Nation and Mother Jones.”

Although I have to say, you're doing us a favor by pointing out that government sponsored health insurance is a money-saver for businesses, which is why countries that HAVE gov't sponsored healthcare systems have more, healthier small businesses. Universal healthcare is stimulative to businesses, and econ's example proves it.”

“Anyone interested in reading the article Senator Franken is talking about when he mentions McAllen and El Paso can look up, "The Cost Conundrum. " It goes into detail about some of the big reasons healthcare costs are so high; Fee-for-service, Doctors making decisions based on profit generating rather than patient health outcomes, and America's obsession with the newest exotic treatments and drugs (regardless of whether or not they're effective and/or safe).
These are 3 things that can't be adequately addressed by converting to a Universal Single Payer Insurance system, let alone any of the HSA-driven garbage pushed by conservatives. Comparative effectiveness research however will certainly help in this regard, and maybe having more doctors on salary rather than on a fee-for-service system.”

“I really agree with your points. Regarding the last one, America's obsession with the newest treatments and drugs regardless of effectiveness and safety, I urge anyone who hasn't seen it to watch the film "First Do No Harm". It's based on a real family's struggle with this exact issue and was very well done.
Another thing that doesn't get discussed enough in the health care debate is the issue of standardizing medical records and having them all electronically archived. Obviously there are privacy issues on that which need to be addressed, but huge amounts of money could be saved. Standardizing medical record keeping would mean that physicians and pharmacists would all have access to a patients complete medical history. This would reduce the need to repeat expensive medical tests. It would cut thru red tape. It would alert all a patient's health care providers to allergies and potential drug interactions, thereby reducing the likelihood of inappropriate medications being dispensed. It would help reduce preventable medical errors that have a huge cost in human suffering, as well as an astronomical cost in follow-up treatment to correct these errors.
Food for thought and debate.”

Combine that with a relatively docile American population, and you have a dangerous situation for average folks.
The solution is to get average folks angry enough and energized enough to get up and fight back. Take down the dragon with an army of knights.”
