“If everyone was a vegan cows, pigs and chickens would be extinct. Doesn't the mass extinction of domestic species upset vegans?”

“Not as much as perpetual mass slaughter, no.
Of course let's not kid ourselves: 'everyone' is not going to go vegan anytime soon. In the meantime it is a modest movement regarding the minimization of suffering.
When (if) the era comes that the entire human population is vegan, then we can consider what to do with domesticated species. Certainly conserving a reasonable population on 'domesticated reserves' or otherwise in zoos and the like isn't an impossibility.”
“Sheep forage all year long. Shepherds watch them all year long to keep lions and bears and wolves (oh my) away. (Not to mention sheep rustlers). Why do you think sheep have wool - to protect them from sunburn? Wild sheep survive in the cold mountains of Alaska and Siberia. .”

“They watch them during lambing season.
Domestic sheep are fed during winter
You didnt know that?”
“Where did the bizarre myth that sheep can't live out of doors in the winter come from? There are over 1/4 million domestic sheep in Montana, which gets quite a bit colder than Israel.”

“I think the reference was to the shepherds camping out overnight.
In those days the pasture land wasn't fenced, so shepherds had to be with the flocks day in and day out. Even in medieval England, shepherds would be buried with a lock of wool so that God would understand why they'd so seldom been to church.
It was traditional to take sheep (or other livestock) out to higher land away from the villages in summer, and keep them closer in sheltered valleys for the winter. People still do this in places like Nepal.”

“Calm down, calm down. December 25th is when the birth of Jesus is celebrated. It was never intended to be the actual date, which the Bible doesn't mention.”
“My mother claimed she could stand right next to my grandmother and do everything exactly the same thing with exactly the same ingredients and when the pies came out of the oven hers were not as good. ”

“Intelligent and bored can be a dangerous combination. I met a woman with a really gorgeous and well behaved Airedale and she said the first two years really explained why they are called terriers (they're terrors). . ”
