The Housing Crisis And Wall Street Shame (Or Lack Thereof)
Commented Nov 30, 2009 at 12:37:21 in Business
“While i agree with you Mr Reich and these comments, there is one thing in the back of my mind that is a little puzzling to me.If i am not mistaken there is a Government mandate that the banks can't discrimina te.I believe that is the cruxt of the whole problem.Lo ans were made available to almost any one, thru Fredi Mac and Fannie May,backed by the US Government .That is the reason for the Government bailouts.I ts thru their own stupidity that they are in this mess.It all boils down to one thing. You got to know your limitations.”
Jannsmoor replied on Nov 30, 2009 at 13:49:30
“I hope its a very tiny thing at the back of your mind, because you are incorrect. It wasn't the Community Reinvestment Act (the laws you refer to as anti discrimination laws) that caused the meltdown. When asked how much the CRA contributed to the economic crisis the Fed has stated "negligibl e." Most studies indicate these types of mortgages do not default at any higher rate than other mortgages.
Also, just so you'll know, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did purchase subprime loans. However, not all subprime loans are the same. Fannie and Freddie purchased what were called Alt A loans, the level just below prime loans. It was mostly the loans below Alt A that were the problem.
You must do your own research. Do not rely on the right wingers to tell you the truth.”

“I don't understand the thinking of people. We are suppose to be a nation of laws.We have laws on corruption but it is allowed to flourish for some.[Repr esentative charlie Rangle for one]We have federal laws against illegal imigration, but it is allowed to flourish in the name of religion, and special interest groups. We have laws on the sale of hand guns, but with loopholes, for special interest.T he point I am making is,what good are laws if not enforced.W hy does a nation have laws?Simpl e.Without laws you have anarchy.Th is is where we are headed. We have those who think the law does not apply to them. This leads to power grabing.Ev entually leading to dictatorsh ip.Our country is young yet, compared to other countries, only a little over 300 years. At the present we are experimenting in democracy, but it is being slowly taken away.To put it bluntly people are idiots.Whi le Dyeing on the cross, the last words of Jesus was "forgive them father for they know not what they do"If this is what the American peopl want,so be it.”

“What does Rangel and illegal immigration have to do with this article???”
kstonehedge replied on Oct 08, 2009 at 12:28:22
“1) Charlie Rangle's "ethics" violations are well published by the House. Ignoring them and blaming a news organization you don't like, is not very clever.
2) While the "cheap labor" is popular, so is the "market growth for government services". Let me explain. Status and salary for bureaucrats depends on the size of your budget and the number of subordinates (the biggest part of most budgets) you have. When you are administering a "service", the more people you "serve", the bigger your budget can be. (Not automatically, someone still has to whine and allocate the money, but it is pretty automatic. ) So by including the "undocumented" in your "market" you enhance your own salary. This is in addition to purely political activities like voter fraud.”

“First, I wasn't aware that Rangel (not "Rangle") was convicted of anything (except on a cable propaganda channel).
Second, illegal immigration (not "imigration") is allowed to flourish because people want to maximize their profits with cheap labor.
Third, what was Jesus dyeing and what color did he dye it and how did he do it without the use of his hands.
"To put it bluntly people are idiots." We can agree on that.”

“Cops should absolutely be wired for full time audio. It would cost no more than $50 per officer to have them equipped with voice recorders that could record more than 12 hours. Each shift could be recorded.
Cops would NEVER allow that.
We'll have to force it on them.”

There's something inherently wrong with the thinking that you are superior to us. We are all normal, healthy, loving human beings who deserve to marry our significant others. I have been with my partner for 10 years, but my friend who just met a guy 2 weeks ago just eloped with him. TWO WEEKS. How long will that marriage last? How 'sanctified' is it? How does that argument hold up against two people doing something spontaneous just because they can?”

Good government is they --don't -lie to the people, they don't destroy the economy, they don't decieve the people, everyone is treated equally.Sp ecial interest doesn't take presence over the majority.T he leaders don' feather the nest of their friends at the expense of the people.Thi s is what we have had the last eight years.
