Why I'm Running for Lieutenant Governor of Texas

Commented Dec 29, 2009 at 09:48:56 in Politics

“Political representation in my dear state of Texas has been an absolute joke. You bring a great focus to what's been happening that's greatly appreciated.

Mr. Earle, I met you very briefly a long time ago when as DA in Austin you tried to help us find out who'd kidnapped and murdered a dear friend of my girlfriend's. You were so kind, thoughtful and persistent in returning calls and helping my devastated girlfriend and her family. They've spoken your name for years with great respect and appreciation. (We're sure the criminal was eventually caught, although we had no idea further about it..)
You've since continued with a great career and it's high time that you recieve the proper recognition and get a chance to continue to do what you do best... Serve your fellow Texans, but in an even larger capacity.
I can't wait to tell everyone I know what a great thing it'll be to have you as Lt. Gov., and vote for you, sir.

“Thanks for that... Good information to know.

But for all his money, Rick Perry doesn't stand a chance against Bill White, The Dem Mayor of Houston who's done a great job here. Hispanics will come out in droves for Senyor White, and so will most thinking Texans who want a Governor who will actually get things done.

Ronnie Earle will make an excellent Lietenant Governor.

I sure wish Howard Dean would come down and shore up the base like he did with the 50 state strategy that was so successfull nationwide. There are a lot of disaffected Dems here in Texas whose votes can really help on coming elections. Right now, they're scattered and need to be brought together.

“Perry vs. White comes down to who's willing to play dirty. It's obvious that Perry will have no problems with doing so. The only unknown is how White will respond. I truly hope he'll successfully walk the line between "tough" and "civilized"...

If I remember correctly, W easily won a reelection for governor in part because his opponent (Maddox?) was too much of a gentleman to sling the mud back at Bush.

If, by some misfortune, White ends up running against Kay, he'll lose. Perry's a wacko who acts like one. Kay's a wacko who knows how to behave in public.”

When Is Political Compromise Really Extortion and Bribery?

Commented Dec 28, 2009 at 07:51:48 in Politics

“We need a law making it absolutely criminal for any financial institution or corporation to contribute to any political campaign whatsoever. Of course, these special interest criminals will look for any loophole and probably do something like give millions to an individual to contribute, but this law needs to have the same punishment for wherever this money can be traced.

This crime should be fought against with the same deliberate determination that the Secret Service has when they go after counterfeiters. In fact, it should absolutely be within the jurisdiction of the Secret Service, the Treasury Department.

Decision making of our laws should be held in a “Sacred Manner” because they affect the lives of sometimes millions of people. The corruption of contributions have been like money changers in our temple of prosperity, compromising our true sense of liberties and freedom.

America will never again be a truly free country until we remove all the undue influence and begin an elections process that is protected for and by the people. NOT CORPORATIONS OR INSTITUTIONS.”

“A huge missed opportunity…. - NO political leader stating that our government actually CAN run healthcare in America really well because of these important facts.... Why? Why so scared of standing up for our American government??

FACT: Americans have the best Hospitals, best Universities, best technology, and research in THE WORLD !
Also, the entire setup needs to be transparent so that all research is available at the touch of a screen. Cost savings would be tremendous, compared to the behemoth profit-driven monstrosity we have now.
Then think of lives, money saved, businesses able to actually grow, and it starts to get really exciting.. But NO........,
Coward politicians wither like scarecrows whenever some idiot shouts "Socialized Medicine!!"

Here we are like a bunch of scared little children when talking about government doing anything because 30 years ago Reagan metaphorically told us that our government SUCKS! While corporations gleefully waited on sidelines to take over our lives and run the show…. Wake up, people!

So it stands to reason…. The Liebermans, Nelsons, ALL the Republicans, standing on total fear of government helping make our lives better, are acting like cowardly, unAmerican TRAITORS..... Choosing instead to pocket their lobby dollars because they're bought... And PAID FOR.!

It's just not right... That anyone should say our country can't have the best healthcare in the world WITH a Public Option…. It's so worth fighting for.

Mr. President… Where are you?”

“If progressives would refuse to accept a mandate without a public option they would give it to us. Instead, most progressives have treated this like it was a football game where they were obligated to cheer for their team even when they kept handing the opponent the ball. The truth is that the opponent in this is the insurance industry. The mandate could have been our bargaining chip because it is the insurance industry's golden goose. They would have accepted a public option if they had believed the mandate was threatened without it. But no one even debated it. The media blacked out coverage of the mandates details. Democrats adopted the same sort of bumper sticker slogans Republicans use to justify submitting to forced payments to the same industry that defeated a public option. And they still are. IE- "It's like car insurance"...When I can get health insurance for $28.00 a month I'll listen to that apple and orange argument.

So to answer your question about "Mr President....Where are you?", the answer is patting himself on the back and sharing a Christmas cheer with the insurance lobby. Just like the Republicans, and just like our majority.”

Sad to say the tense of the verb in the first sentence should be HAD. The greatest public university system in the world, that of California, is far from the dominance it once enjoyed. The research is no longer fundamental and is focused mainly on technology and using "old" science. Where is the world's most powerful and advanced supercollider? Not in the US, that's for sure! The same corporate interests that have had their way with health care reform, long ago had their way with fundamental research. Once they managed to get the government sponsoring agencies to direct research, to emphasize applied over fundamental research, and to institute funding for corporations, it was possible for companies to close their own research centers and then have the government fund it for them. There is little truly fundamental, non-programmatic, and non-conformist research that is sponsored anywhere in this nation. The seed corn will be spent and there will be no new technology to grow from it.”

“Yes, Reagan was successful in convincing too many American that government was bad, all the while making it larger and more expensive during his two terms in office.

It's amazing how many people scream about government and the minute something goes wrong in their lives start screaming that government should do something!

What appears to be a healthcare reform bill debacle has just left me devasted. I've done everything organizations have asked, signed petitions, sent letter and emails. And, yet, those efforts of those of millions of others seem to have done little to get our legislators to actually deal with the problem.

The best thing that could happen is if EVERYONE dropped their health insurance. I mean corporations of all sizes, organization, the self employed and those with individual plans. If we as a nation take stand that are legislators seem unable to do, it might see real reform. Oh, where are all my fellow marchers of the 60s. Where are those willing to demonstrate (peacefully) for what they know is right.

It's more that a question of "where have all the flowers gone." The real question is where has all the courage gone.”

If we'd left in '69, nothing, or very little, would be different now, today, then the way it is now, or was, having stayed there until 1975...
Except that 30,000 American soldiers would still be alive and billions of dollars not to mention innocent civilians, weapons, and treasure would have been saved.

Staying in Afghanistan now will not make it any different for future times then if we stay. And don't give me that garbage about fighting them there so we don't fight them here. We have the most powerful military in the history of known civilization. They're a rag tag bunch of fools who barely have a pot to p#ss in or a window to throw it out of. Just because the Bush administration didn't know how to use the intelligence available and stop 911, which everyone now knows it could have, and should have, doesn't give the military the excuse to tell us how to spend our money and treasure.

So you're not just right about throwing away money and treasure, you're historically right, because that's the BIG difference in all this. The ones who've benefited from all these wars ALL ALONG.”

I think you should be the POTUS, but I know that's a far-gone conclusion that has its gulfs . I don't care what you may conjure up, to run for an office you choose, or to support someone, start a whole new party; I don't care... I trust you.

Except that 35,000 American soldiers would still be alive, not to mention thousands of innocent civilians.

The greater courage, no matter WHAT Obama says today, would be to stand up to all the power mongers and say that this campaign isn't worth the life of one more American soldier like Kennedy said to his own personal staff in October and early November of 1963 about Vietnam.
Kennedy never had the chance to stand up for the nation and proceed with getting us out of Nam, but he'd already stood up to the power elite when they tried to sucker him into the war with Cuba in '61, and he said no. The Joint Chiefs demanded that he initiate a pre-emptive first strike on Cuba and the Soviet Union during the Missile Crisis and he held his ground... And said NO.

Obama would be the hero of the world and a peace loving nation if he stood up to the power Mongers and got us out of both those countries NOW... Immediately.

40 years from now, it will have made no difference. Except that hundreds of American soldiers and innocent civilians would still be alive.

This is the fundamental lesson of Vietnam. If we'd left in 1969, instead of 1975, now, very, very little would be different, in terms of what it would require of our country, except that we'd still have 30,000 American soldiers who wouldn't have been killed.

I hope you'll write more regularly, as your insight is greatly appreciated by those of us who want to be informed straight up, without the blinders of political pranks that these 2 parties espouse, and now Obama is in the thick of.

The Media is largely to blame also, for Obama's insulatar bubble that is taking him further and making him more out of touch with the mainstream pulse you so avidly have strong reference to.

If some responsible pundit on CNN, would have the likes of you , Elizabeth Warren, and others who talk straight fiscal conservative sense, then this administration MIGHT give considering what you say the time of day.
They've already ostracized MSNBC as a liberal thinktank when actually, the cable channel represents a greater protion for what young, educated, up and coming Americans who like to be informed are thinking.

But what you're saying is so far beyond politics, truthfully. It's about our money, our future, our ability to continue to prosper, and the hard choices that must be made to discipline our nation away from the lazy and selfish elite who have such a hard time allowing anyone to take control for the good of the people.

What worries me is that Obama's too smart for this, so quite possibly he's decided to be a pawn for the elite while they instill more of the Shock Doctrine.
