4. Now this is a subject that seems to have been conveniently brushed under the proverbial carpet. Since they were the primary reason used to justify the invasion of Iraq and have since been debunked then I would like to see more time and attention paid to the Niger Documents.”

“Tragedy may not be an excuse (although, there are many who believe that his crime was not exactly what the media says it is, and the victim said as much in recent years), but severe trauma can certainly mess with a person's head. The traumas you mentioned are just the highlights from his life, and there were plenty more of traumatic incidents. For example, when he was a young boy he survived a murder attack by a Polish serial killer and robber, who tried to break Polanski's skull. He survived the Holocaust a s a Jewish orphan, and stories from that period include a german soldier shooting at him for target practice. He lost his mother to the death camps and his pregnant wife and friends were brutally massacred by the Manson gang. After that, he had a nervous breakdown, became paranoid, and was accused by the media of being the murderer before the truth came out. Those who know him believe that he is not the sort of person who would intentionally harm anyone, although that does not mean they condone what he did. Seriously, if people can forgive Mike Tyson, they can for sure forgive Polanski.”

Indeed. This point is lost on many of the child-rapist's supporters. The victim could have been dancing nude in front of him, inviting him to have sex with her. Simply by virtue of the fact that she was 13 (a fact that Polanski swore to in open court that he was aware of when he raped her) means she didn't have capacity to decide to have sex with him because the age of consent was 14 at the time. And the fact that she was a few weeks shy of 14 at the time has zero bearing on the situation as well.”
