“John--dude--you're putting way too much thought into this. It's just a commercial. Besides, it isn't really about breaking rules, but rather about self-expression. Are you saying that people should WANT to think of themselves as cookie cutter people in a cookie cutter world? Of course not. Now I'm not saying shopping at the gap is the way to self-actualization, but the problem is not with the message, but rather the messenger.”

Barack Obama Is Doing My Job; Why America Needs Him to Do His

“"he's obviously risk-averse and conflict-averse"
-------------------
Yes--and he should be. This isn't a game of football. Any mistakes could be catastrophic in the long term, so I have no problem with someone who "dithers" long enough to make sure that the best option is pursued. It might be frustrating to watch, but in the long run it's more effective.”

“"President Obama seems to have traded in his position as our economy's commander-in-chief"

Maybe I need to dust off my copy of the Constitution, but I don't remember it saying anything about the President having direct control over the economy. This is not a command economy. There are no five year plans are government reeducation programs; that's not how we do it here.”

“Most seniors a happy with Medicare. My mother is happy with medicare. Her MD does home visits--paid for through Medicare. Your vision of how government programs function is a generation out of date. The red tape of the private systems is caused by their efforts to avoid delivering services as opposed to delivering them. Stop repeating the same cliches and misinformation.”

Gay Rights Speech: What Should Obama Say Tonight?

Commented Oct 10, 2009 at 15:51:39 in Politics

“It doesn't matter much what Obama says in the speech; it won't be enough for the most ardent advocates on this matter. Nothing less than a stop loss order is going to satisfy them, and that's not going to happen. Nothing is going to happen until they are over the hump on health care reform. The American public is notoriously incapable of mental multitasking and the administration will not want to confound the issues.

After watching Obama for almost a year now, you would think that it would be clear that it is his preference to follow the prescribed constitutional pathways for doing things and not trying to do end runs. There are going to be congressional hearings and DADT sometime this fall. A large majority of the American people favor repeal of DADT. There are bills out there ready to go (I think--not sure on the Senate side). The military command sees the inevitability of what's coming and are probably prepared to suck it up and do what has to be done. Everything is falling into place. Why are so many people hunting so hard for the defeat at the heart of victory? Such a liberal thing to do.”

I keep telling anyone who will listen: watch for AMC's adaptation of Kirkman's relentless story "The Walking Dead." It will be the ultimate zombie saga, since it will be able to deal with just these issues in an ongoing, weekly format. Everyone just ignores me and tells me to go away...”

“A lot of folks were nervous wrecks last November also, and it turned out okay. I haven't read the article, so it might already have been mentioned, but the process now moves into debate areas which are actually less conservative in tone than the Finance Committee. That's merger with the H.E.L.P. bill and the final reconciliation committee. Now it's all about finding 60 votes for passage or for cloture in the Senate. I think they're set in the House.”

Shabama replied on Sep 30, 2009 at 19:18:59

“Thank you, Mr. Creamer, for an excellent article. Yesterday's vote was only the beginning of the action. Our President Obama is smarter than any of us know...he is allowing the
right wing conservatives and all their republican friends to carry on, ad nauseum, with the
Glen Beck empty noise of untruths while the wiser public is listening and forming their
own intelligent opinions. Of course a public option should be included in health care
reform...it packs a powerful enough punch to challenge the misguided greed of the
insurance companies. These companies have been savvy enough to steal our money
"legally" so I am certain they can find a way to earn their keep honestly too. Perhaps a
few talented CEO's might have some ideas for a new and not harmful enterprise.”

“Then Iran should let the inspectors in. Then you--and the entire world--would know the truth of the matter. The physical setup for generating fuel is not the same as that for generating weapons grade material. The truth would be obvious to all. Why do they hesitate? You'd think they would be eager to humiliate the Great Satan by proving their innocence. Do you really need a secret underground facility to make or recycle fuel rods? You're "sound analysis" is flawed.. Being peace loving and suspicious of your own government is no excuse for not exercising commonsense.”

altohone replied on Sep 28, 2009 at 16:12:31

“Iran does let inspectors in, and has offered to show the new site.

You are guessing what the results will be just like the media storm and others presuming to know when we know they don't know, because they said so.

Demanding proof is sound common sense... particularly given recent history.
Trusting those who lied, not sound.
Nice try though.”
