Congress Is Committed to Creating Jobs on Main Street

“Representative did you listen to Obama's speech prior to passing the stimulas bill? If not, where were you? Obama promised the bill would help jobs "Right Now" for people hurting "Right Now"! Lets see Hillary's buddy Penn got six million, congressional distritcts that didn't exist created "new" jobs and here in central florida we got two miles of an existing road repaved with stimulas. Obama said the bill would reign in unemployment at 8%! Thats right in case you didn't hear the speech, 8%. Then good ole boy, Larry Summers said they didn't understand the scope of the problem, but Obama was in the middle east on his world apology tour so nothing happened. Now Obama has his "job summit" and promises new dedication to working on the jobs problem after he figures out how to insure 31 million of the 48 million uninsured that will not go into effect for three to four years. Forget about those 14,000 families a day that are losing their health coverage. They will be helped in three to four years after his next election. This will be taken up after the holiday vacation by congress and Obama. Good to know your concerned about the jobs though.”

“Franklin Roosevelt signed the Glass-Steagal Act in the early 30's and it kept the banks from branching out into other businesses and becoming "too big to fail". The Graham-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 was created by a Republican and it effectively repealed the Glass-Steagal Act. Clinton signed the thing at the urging of Robert Rubin, his Secretary of the Treasury. He was clueless as to the potential consequences. Senators McCain and Cantwell are proposing that the Glass-Steagal Act be brought back, with all it's restrictions. Most of the Republicans will be against that because of their hatred for all things that sound like any restriction on the bankers and other speculators. The Commities Modernization Act of 2000 was also pushed through by Senator Graham on behalf of Enron and allowed for the wild speculation and price fixing in the commoditiy markets. It also restricted any attempt to regulate the derivitives markets (think credit default swaps). These two acts need scrapped and then enough investigators and prosecutors are hired with a clear mission to protect the public from the financial shenanigans. The Democrats will not be forgiven if they self- destruct on this one. Even the Teabaggers were ranting against the big bankers.”

Lucky for Europeans smallpox and malaria killed most of the natives easing the taking of land and resources.
And here people are arguing about the responsibility of Americans to pay for the suffering of Africans. Did I hear that unemployment went to 10% +, even thought the stimulas program was for "shovel ready jobs" and going to save the infrastructure? Costs may very well go up under a government plan, as they certainly will under the status quo. Higher costs will mean higher taxes, which can be directed to those most able to afford them instead of denying life saving care to those who can't. This is about a lot more than just reducing cost. This is a moral issue that may well define our society for the next few decades. I believe we are better than we are presently displaying to the world.”
