“A smaller percentage of course. In the Third World countries like Vietnam not very many at all. For the developed European countries well they have vocational and academic tracts for high schoolers. By the way places like Finland do not use standardized tests to fail schools, teachers, and students. They are more civilized than the corporate barbarians who are trying to take over our public schools for profit.”

“Viet Nam appeared to be solidly 2nd world when I was there last year.”
“I am a liberal Democrat. Read Diane Ravitch or any other article about the education defomers. Do not insult people without educating yourself. Obama and Arne Duncan are for privatizing public education. Remember his I am happy we fired all the teachers? Remember him championing that Rhee who got run out of town. Obama's education hero is Jeb Bush, the test profiteerer. Where have you been?”
“Race to the Bottom is Obama's corporate creation. Sorry some Dems especially Obama as bad as Bush on education.”

“Yeah, it's the Obama Administration wanting to gut education, write Thomas Jefferson out of the history books because he wasn't religious enough, and deny there was slavery in the South. Keep living in your bagger bubble, dear.”
“What utter rot! Love your slanted article. Course those countries do not educate all their kids just the select. Looks like the corporate test reformers can't wait to talk about how failed our system is.”
canuckastani on Dec 3, 2013 at 16:14:31
“It is failing our kids, so let's bellyache about the test and forget the point of it: public policy decision-making across the world. US companies would never have started the outsourcing trend unless they knew skilled workers were available in the receiving country. Education has been shown to be the single most important mitigation of endemic poverty next to the empowerment of women. Nothing else even comes close. If you bellyache about social spending, think about education first.”
“Martha Coakley was the prosecutor in this trial-remember the candidate who went to the islands rather than campaign when Scott Brown ran against her. The case always bothered me-seemed a little too contrived.”

“Not sure what your point is but everything I read about the case (I'm from Boston) pointed squarely at Louise Woodward as the murderer.”
“Obama and some of the Dems are just as bad if not worst than the Republicans about privatizing education. In fact under Arne's reign of terror teachers better not go to poor SES schools because they will be fired for poor test scores.”
“Thank you for the hall of shame-the ten people who have done more to destroy public education in the US. Course Michelle Rhee should be there and her hubby maybe on the most wanted poster.”
snesich on Nov 12, 2013 at 13:28:45
“Michelle Rhee did a perfunctory 2 year stint as part of TFA (Teach For America) which is essentially just a two year credential, essentially a Peace Corps model but with much more negative effects. (They only train for 5 weeks and they argue that they are MORE equipped than students who studied teaching and did classroom training for four years!)
This 2 year stint allows TFA people to get their loans deferred for that period and makes them look like "concerned and idealistic" young people on their resumes. Very few stay in the classroom after 2 years, most of them opting for "real" careers in medicine, law or business.
However, what's really sleazy and pernicious about people like Michelle Rhee is that some of them go into "education administration" which means that their agenda is to put more and more schools under corporate control until the entire system of free, universal public education is a thing of the past.
And when these former TFA'ers become school administrators they think they are inoculated from criticism by being able to say, "Hey, I DID teach in a classroom!", which is supposed to silence critics who challenge their privatization agenda.
Oh, and after they succeed in providing all families with "school choice", you'll be left with an increasingly smaller voucher. Good luck. The wealthy will call that voucher a "supplement" for the private schools they send their kids to anyway.
So, yes, add the duplicitous Michelle Rhee to this list as well.”

“Was our education system really that good before they came along? You like Teach to the Test?”
“He's looking for his next gig right now. Asking him to stay is the kiss of death Ihope-a face saving kick out the door. Evey sup I know who got one of those receptions ending up leaving as soon as he couild find his newest district to profiteer from.”
“Still don't understand-Obama can't run if he was born in Kenya but Ted can run if he was born in Canada? What”
bdaved on Oct 31, 2013 at 14:10:03
“Because while Senator Cruz did acquire US citizenship at his birth in Canada, the fictional Kenyan-born Obama wouldn't have been born a US citizen-- as a result of the very same law that made Senator Cruz a US citizen. President Obama was born a US citizen for one reason, and for only one reason-- because he was born in the United States. No other reason is necessary.”
“Some of those fine countries only educate and test a small portion of their population at the level of the test. The rest go to work. Wanna be like China go ahead. Just leave the population in the rural areas to service the obligarths.”
“Amen-Karen Lewis should be president of AFT not the sellout Weingarten.”
slimstable on Sep 17, 2013 at 21:10:15
“Karen Lewis must be Mayor because she is the only person who will address the structural issues of race and class in this city, even though she makes a lot of liberals uncomfortable because such actions would focus on their privilege as well ”
