“Yes, Chavez gave away things. He gave Chinese washing machines to his supporters, he gave lots of money to buy votes (I had the pleasure of turning him down), he gave lots of cars to his military officers, generally Chevrolet's but he also gave Hummers to his top political appointees which we could see all over the country (citizens were banned from buying them). But in fact, he stole billions which his relatives living in Miami now enjoy while the people of Venezuela no longer have food, medicine, water, electricity, gasoline, freedom, or safety. Yeah, Chavez was great, serving only himself and raping the people of Venezuela.”

“So let me get this
straight you object that he spends Venezuela's oil wealth on its people. The integrity
of the voting system was beyond question. Chavez respected democracy when
decisions go against him other than when the Right  with US CIA
help deposed him as they have done in every country south of the Rio
Grande. The rich are angry because they can't buy the election or dominate the
airwaves as they did under the Right Wing dictators or right wing parties  as  is
done in  Canada and US. Chavez invested
Venezuela's oil wealth into social programs including state-run food markets,
cash benefits for poor families, free health clinics and education programs.Sounds like he was a standup guy to me. Did
you know that  the new treaty with Iran
on nuclear weapons has a clause in it that Iran must NOT sell its oil for gold bullion
but must sell it in US dollars. ”

“The economy was destroyed by CHAVEZ who stole everything in Venezuela and the United States had absolutely nothing to do with that. Go look at the companies and stores that he nationalized, they're not producing now. Right now, 30% of every barrel of oil produced goes to China to pay off the loans that Chavez took out (and kept for himself) in violation of the constitution. The Russians are currently taking over the Orinoco oil fields. The United States held 48% of PDSVA prior to Chavez nationalizing the corporation. At that point, Venezuela was receiving far more money from the oil fields than today. And stop with the venezuelanalysis.com references, they're nothing but chavista propaganda and everybody knows it.”

“Absolutely nonsense and a lie!

Like zenos noted, the right-wing opposition along with US corporations are INTENTIONALLY sabotaging the economy under Maduro, like they have under Chavez. At one point during Chavez President, food items such chicken and beans stopped reaching grocery stores because of economic sabotage.”

“Chavez used to pay cash, cars, and washing machines for votes and in the beginning it was about $2,000 U.S. dollars or more for your vote. Chavez also seized companies, sold off their inventory and pocketed the money. However, Chavez stole all the cash and ruined the economy, leaving nothing for Maduro to use to bribe voters. Because of this, Maduro is reduced to seizing companies and "giving" away the appliances in the hopes of getting votes (the next election is Dec 8th and it appears he's going to lose big time). Of course, now the company, Daka, won't have any money to use to restock their shelves and the stores will close. What's also funny is that the people stealing, in many cases don't have electricity with which to run these appliances. Yes, they have the wires running into their homes, but the Venezuelan government through the national electric company Corpoelec can't provide electricity. This is a perfect lose-lose situation created by Maduro.”

If you read the article, he's going to give them their annual bonuses early to buy votes for the December 8th mayoral elections. He knows he's going to lose the December 8th election. This is typical Chavez politics, buy as many votes as you can and cheat if you need more votes.”

“Your figures are incorrect. The government of Venezuela just announced this week that poverty had dropped to 6.9%. Your knowledge of Venezuela is from a book you read, a book of numbers provided by the chavistas, full of lies. You do realize that those numbers came from the BVC, the central bank owned and run by Chavez. Or maybe you believe that the CIA sent people out door to door to collect information?
Why don't you explain why Venezuelans can't get food or medicine if they’re so rich? Why don't you explain why they don't have cooking gas, electricity, water, garbage pickup, or a place to live if everybody is well to do? Why does it take six hours, if you're lucky, to buy two chickens that may or may not be fit to eat? Why can't mothers find milk for their babies if nobody is poor, or Pan to make Arepas for the rest of the family? Why can’t you buy a loaf of bread if they’re so rich? Please explain to me why Maduro gave 60,000 hectares to the Chinese government, prime farm land, when Venezuela has to import over 400,000 tons of food just for November? As to the 200,000 Colombian refugees, are you joking! Most of those are members of FARC, we see them in the malls all the time. They are also the source of large quantities of American dollars that they have taken from the drug trade.”

Today there's no food, water, electricity, medicine, gasoline, or freedom of the press just to name a few of the items missing in Venezuela. Look up the country and learn something about it before you post such ridiculous statements.”

Tiboregon on Oct 25, 2013 at 23:32:35

“This is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever read.
I did however look up some things for you. This from the CIA world factbook, which has a strong bias against the "chavistas".
"poverty in Venezuela has declined during the CHAVEZ administration, dropping from nearly 50% in 1999 to about 27% in 2011"

"Venezuela continues to attract immigrants from South America and southern Europe because of its lenient migration policy and the availability of education and healthcare. Venezuela also has been a fairly accommodating host to more than 200,000 Colombian refugees."”
