“She looks good in the picture - lets not detract from her. It might not be surgery - she does take good physical care of herself - diet and running.

As for her policy positions and vindictive speeches filled with lies - that's another story.

I can appreciate her beauty natural or enhanced without ignoring loony speeches.”

“Rachel Ray should not loose a wink of sleep over old Martha - fewer younger women bother over her. Martha should know better than to come out sounding like a tired old nag on TV because she has now been surpassed in cooking popularity for the 18-35 demographic.

Never liked Martha anyway and I don't own a single thing with her logo.”

“Give it up, she's just trying to be educated, this woman is clueless - let's face it Sarah Palin is a ditz and most Americans can relate. William H Buckley whom I never admired advocated that all voters should pass an IQ test, this was supposedly to keep blacks from being eligible from voting which I abhorred but I have come around to his thinking, maybe all including our elected officials should pass an IQ test”

“I've watched a few of his speeches and he was the only republican who attended a minority issues caucuses during the 2008 campaigns. Still he sways back and forth between being amicable, common sense, pragmatic governor and spewing right wing red meat material. Remember his joke about Obama being scared of the sound of a sh0t and trashing him in Israel?

And yet he's the only Republican I'd give a chance to because he thinks with his brain alot more than the other repubs. If you watched him on Jon Stewart, he actually got Jon to say he was middle of the road on choice versus abortion.”

luvobama replied on Nov 19, 2009 at 22:17:02

“I watched Jon last night with Dobbs but haven't watched the extended version yet - Jon is a genius, he actually lets guests explain their view even when its blatantly wrong, loony or fringy.

Glad he didn't let Dobbs get away with fear mongering - loved that he used a Mariachi band to welcome Dobbs.

Who would vote for Lou Dobbs to be their Senator? Let me retract that - someone voted for Michelle 'Rabid' Bachmann, David 'prostitutes' Vitter and Joe 'Yeller' Wilson.”

Newsweek Defends Provocative Palin Cover

Commented Nov 17, 2009 at 23:19:13 in Media

“I might get some flack for this one but I disagree with Newsweek's use of the picture - I've read the caption and the picture does not illustrate the caption - that was their defense and no I'm not a palin fan. Fair is fair, the picture is sexist and irrelevant to the caption - the newsweek editor wanted to ogle her legs - oh well, he should man up and admit it.”

mh11060 replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 23:27:57

“It's called irony. They are saying THIS is what represents the GOP. It's a problem.

But beyond trying to explain the choice in the cover, Sarah Palin posed for the photo. She allowed the flag, the 2 blackberries, the photo-ready makeup. It has nothing to do with running or fitness, except for maybe the clothes she was wearing. She just made another bad decision.”

Tulka2 replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 23:22:38

Commented Nov 17, 2009 at 15:10:14 in Politics

“I don't think people would be as bothered about Palin's outright lies if she did not continually claim to be morally superior to everyone else. Her habit of literally demonizing her opponents don't encourage others to offer any grace for her own mishaps and mistakes.

Time to see who she's been pallin' around with - if she's using her book to distort the truth, its only fair that folks fact check it.”

Palin Suggests Evolution Not Real In

Palin Suggests Evolution Not Real In "Going Rogue"

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 17:54:47 in Politics

“hey i'm not a palin fun but I don't believe in macro evolution either - no scientist has proven it occurs within the last 6 milleniums. So if you want to nitpick on evolution - micro versus macro lets go. i attended a public school that taught the theory of evolution and various religious philosophies on creation. Great balance of science and belief and no one forced you to believe one over the other.”

ladyfractal replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 19:31:05

“Would you want your kid taught an alternative to the idea that the Holocaust happened? Would you want your children taught an alternative to the idea that slavery was wrong? What about teaching astrology as an alternative theory to astronomy? If not in the three aforementioned cases why is evolutionary biology different? I mean there ARE obviously Holocaust deniers and there ARE obviously people who think that black people are inferior. Why do you not want your children taught THEIR alternatives? (Teach the controversy, right?)

Also, mico- versus macro- evolution is not a useful distinction. The ONLY difference between micro evolution and macro-evolution is the time scale. That's it. Macroevolution is what happens when you take a process that you can observe in, say, 20000 generations of bacteria and let it play out over a couple of *million* generations. That's it.

I'm more than happy to 'nitpick' the issue with you. You name the time and place but do come prepared.

The core pedagogical reason for NOT teaching creationism (or ANY religious explanation for species diversity) is that evolutionary biology is a complex subject and understanding it is difficult enough without interjecting non-evidentiary, non-sensical, religious-based explanations into the mix which do *nothing* to further the understanding of biology and will only confuse the issue.

It's a pedagogical disaster.

cheers
LF”

LeFlaneur replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 18:31:33

“Great, no one forced you to believe one over the other.

I see they also didn't force you to think critically, or even force you to understand basic difference between faith and evidence. In short, they didn't force you to learn. Great education.”

MJinCanada replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 18:23:46

“Six millennia? Please, the art of spinning and weaving is older than that.

Let's start with the beginning of single-celled organisms 1.4 billion years ago.”

Joel Redman replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 18:17:54

“Macro and Micro evolution are the same thing on different time scales. Furthermore, nothing in science is ever proved, just shown beyond a reasonable doubt, and subject to further revision over time. When it passes enough tests it is considered a Theory (which in science means that it explains all the known data sufficiently).

As a small sampling of the things evolution explains -- Distribution of species; why creatures on islands are closely related to creatures on the nearest continent; why trilobite, dinosaur and rabbit fossils aren't found in the same strata of rock; and why all animals have essentially the same bone structure.

Any competing theory has to successfully explain all of these things and any other evidence that is used to explain evolution.”

CNYObamaFan replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 18:06:44

“Science is based on fact. Religion is based on belief. If you can't recognize the difference, I'm not suprised that you went to a public school.”

azatrox replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 18:04:34

“Your school obviously didn't do a good job on the science part. Like most creationists, you think there is some distinction between micro- and macroevolution, but there isn't; it's simply a continuum based on the degree of genetic differentiation between the groups being compared. The evidence for what you call macroevolution is overwhelming, ranging from molecular (i.e., DNA) evidence, fossil record, and laboratory data. I recommend you try a public university with a decent biology program.”

The reference was clear enough: Palin, the former beauty pageant contestant who had chosen Esther as her biblical role model when she first entered politics, would topple America's secular tyrants, leading her people, the true Christians, into the kingdom."

“My night ends on a seriously high note! What a day of celebration - my view of CNN has dramatically improved now that racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric spewing Dobbs will be off the air. Funny thing is Dobbs is a descendant of immigrants - he is not Native American - those are the true blooded Americans. Sad thing is that Dobb's wife is Mexican, go figure the extended family get-together each time he said Mexicans were spreading leprosy in America.

Wait for the announcement of his own show on Fox news where he can bash relentlessly, flail in the wind against inevitable change. I for one celebrate this victory for immigrant communities all over the US - those who invaded in the 17th century and those who were brought forcefully and those who voluntarily brought themselves.

Great day in America! Can't you tell my joy?”
