On My Mind: The State of the Music Business
Commented Mar 23, 2009 at 16:12:31 in Entertainment
“Thank you for that post. I have been disappointed in radio for years now. I simply grew tired of listening to what a bunch of corporate morons insisted we all listen to. Thank goodness for the few locally owned stations we have left. Thank goodness for Internet radio. Thank goodness for media players. Without them, we wouldn't know music beyond the fluff they play on corporate radio.”
7 Days: Franken on Franken, Air America, "Senator Maddow" & More

“Norm Coleman should remember all the flack that Al Gore got for contesting the election results of 2000. 'It's not good for the country', 'He's a sore loser', etc. As usual, the GOP only holds certain beliefs when its convenient. Go away, Norm. Enough already. Let SENATOR Franken do his job.”

“Have you seen the movie "Recount" and read any of the facts that have developed since the Bush v Gore election? Gore did win Florida and it was our Supreme Court that over-ruled the Fla Supreme Court something that is unconstitutional - the federal usurping power over the state on an election issue. But . . . as much as I want to see Franken win, I think that it needs to go all the way through the process for legitimacy. Unlike Bush v Gore or even John Kerry who actually won Ohio as well. If we looked at both of Bush's elections truthfully, he didn't win either.”

“I admit I haven't watched his show. But this post doesn't strike me as coming from a fox news blowhard conservative type. I'm probably one of the most liberal people in the world. But I do welcome opinions of people that don't share my political leanings.”

“As one who loves watching Joe and Mika let me highly recommend the show. Even some of my most liberal friends watch and enjoy the show. I agree philosophically with Joe and yet he is always open minded and very worldly and shows a willingness to listen to and even agrees with opposing political views which I appreciate since it enlightens me. I understand what he says about some of the postings here. They are both immature and a lot of the time clueless about the facts. Joe, if you read this I would love to have you discuss the foreclosure issue in more depth and use the wonderful CNBC special "House of Cards" as a beginning point. Then have a thoughtful discussion of all the circumstances leading to foreclosure and explore whether the President's bill will help those in those situations. It may help quell a little of this huge anger that is out there by those who pay their mortgages on even with great sacrifice.. I find too often the reporters dont use concrete examples to determine whether the foreclosure bill is equitable for all Americans. Thanks Joe for my mornings with you and Mika and my wife.”

Why We Lost Prop 8: When Reactive Politics Become Losing Politics

“I agree. Anger begets anger. Any equal rights movement in history succeeded in part by changing one mind at a time; taking baby steps. We can't force anyone to understand our plight until we put emphasis on the fact that the fight for marriage has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with protecting our families.”
Why We Lost Prop 8: When Reactive Politics Become Losing Politics

“First of all, as a lesbian I was deeply disappointed in the passage of prop 8. While I understand the impulse to attach blame to someone, I think any anger toward Obama is misplaced. I realized halfway through all this campaigning that some issues were just more important. I would rather have a job than be married. I would rather have a home than be married. I would rather the economy be sound and the war in Iraq to end than be married. Maybe this is because I have faith that the we will have our rights. Perhaps President-elect Obama also feels that there are bigger issues to deal with right now. We should not throw him under the bus because we lost a few battles.
Second, it's been a long time since I was in grade school, but I don't once recall marriage being discussed there. A field trip to a gay marriage?? Puhlease.”

“Obama (and McCain) made a lot of promises they have no way of keeping. He will not be able to save your job or your home if they are on the chopping block right now. Gay men and lesbians in California became second-class citizens. That’s real not just pie in the sky promises from another politician. Obama is just the last in a long line of Democrats who take GBLT money but run for the hills when it comes to a fight. It’s time to cut off the Democrats; let them get their money from the bigots they seem to love so much.”

“I'm not angry at Obama - I'm angry at the black people who voted for this.”
