Ben Bernanke: 'TIME' Person Of The Year

Ben Bernanke: 'TIME' Person Of The Year

Commented Dec 16, 2009 at 11:02:15 in Media

“Bernanke doesn't belong in your premise. First, he's not a politician, second he did save our economy from going over a cliff.

Having said that, JL deserves to be stripped of his chairman and voted out of office. He's a disgrace. He was elected BY THE PEOPLE. Not Bernanke. The two don't even compare.”

“Some of these comments as well as the headline are truly amazing - and ignorant. Time's Person of the Year is not given based on whether someone is loved or not. It's given to the most INFLUENTIAL person. Bernanke meets that criteria. Whether you like him or not.

And if the country had gone over the financial cliff then the same people criticizing him for saving the system would be the same people criticizing him for letting the system fail.

Sometimes the lefties can be just as ignorant as the righties.”

emerywood replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 11:10:13

“What is so unusual about that ?
Left or right, we are just trying to get a piece of the same pie.
Bosses are not hiring when they can squeeze the last drop of productivity out of their employees,
in the name of recession while those who cannot afford health insurance would love to have it free. This struggle between the have and have-nots have been going on for ages, perhaps not as
open as it is now. The government's job should be to keep it balanced.”

Nate Silver: Progressives Are Crazy to Oppose the Senate Health Care Bill

Commented Dec 16, 2009 at 10:27:09 in Politics

“As I watch this debate, I'm reminded of Ted Kennedy who said years later he should have taken Nixon up on his deal because if he had, we would have had a public option by now. Then, I think about Hillary's failed effort. Then, I think about FDR.

Truth is, no bill is perfect from the "get-go". You have to move the ball down the field, take what you can get, then amend the heck out of the bill over several years. But progressives are all or nothing. Always has been and always will be. Good for them. Bad for the party.

Truth is, progressives, like the right wing nuts, are in the minority. They hate to hear it, but it's true. Progressives aren't the reason Obama is president. Obama can't govern as a progressive he knows that.

Take the bill, move it down the field and pass amendments.”

Jupitersky replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 11:52:48

“The reality is that this is a no win situation for the democrats. Pass this garbage bill and it's certain failure. This bill is designed for failure. Don't pass a bill and it's failure. They have the majority if they can't get what they want now how do you foresee them making these amendments in the future?

You see it has to be all or nothing, because the next best chance to make any signficant progress may not come for a very long time. Compromising doesn't solve real world problems only political problems. Problems in the real world don't have compromises they have solutions. Any compromise reduces the optimal solution.

I don't consider this bill significant progress. It's a token and in the end doesn't change the game or the system and will impact few Americans at a high cost and the winners are the same people who bought our legislators- the health insurance industry. You can say we're poor losers and you're right, we lost and didn't get anything in return.”

“Even IF the Dems had 65 senators they would figure out a way to mess this up. You gotta give the Rethugs credit - they stick together even when they disagreed. They understand the importance of party unity.

I'm sick of the Dems and I've always voted in EVERY election, but I'm considering dropping out of 2010. And if I'm considering that, just imagine what the average casual voter is thinking. Dems deserve to lose in 2010. They can't get anything done right. Bunch of losers. I'm fed up with them. But I'll never vote Repug.”

“AblesBrother: I think Cynthia would have made the right decisions if she would have got elected.

Now, that statement is truly naive. Being a good President is less about decisions and more about what you can get passed through Congress. She would have made better choices on healthcare? Such as what? What choices? Prez doesn't have a choice - he doesn't even have a vote.

Your support of her is based on what exactly? What specifically has she done. Grant you, Obama's resume was thin when he ran - but he won and earned every vote - what's on her resume that makes you think she would make a good President? What has she done?”

“That's it. Lieberman should be removed from his chairmanship immediately; Dems in CT should start a recall against him immediately.

If they don't do this I'm done with the Dems. And so is America. The Dems look like fools in the eyes of the public. They look stupid. And Lieberman is laughing all the way with his Repub friends.

Dems need to stand up to this man or else they will lose big time in 2010 because people will not come out and support Dems. They look weak. And I'm sick of 'em.

Medicare at 55 was a sure-fire winning strategy for 2010 and now with it gone, there goes the Dems. As I said, I'm sick of 'em. They can't get anything done and they look like fools.”

“Please define VERY responsible spender? You mean, like Bush?

Unless HP posters live in Houston or have read up on this woman's background, most posters really don't know what her political leanings are. And that's the point. And you missed it.

Someone was able to reach a level of success with seemingly no or little regard for their personal lifestyle. She was judged by most voters on her political stances and offerings - and she won. Again, that's the point.

And you wrote - "If the chips were down we could still expect American civility to stand because we are part of this country." You should preach that sermon to YOUR tea bag and birther friends and ELECTED leaders, such as senators and congressman and your Joe Wilson lovers.”
