Ben Nelson Now Says Health Care Reform Was 'Mistake'
Commented Jan 07, 2010 at 11:00:12 in Politics
“Nelson is worried abou this re-election in Nebraska. Let it be known that this a very small % of the country. I ask - who's side are you on Ben? He doesn't have to worry; he has one of the best single payer health insurances in our nation and we pay for it. claudiatucsonaz”

“Totally agree with you. I too quit watching most of MSNBC programming fo rthe same reasons. Monday, I decided to try Hardball again. Part way through the first segment, I quit again after hearing Matthews ask why Obama did give his speech in the first couple of days after the bombing attempt. Well, I personally like a leader who gathers facts and analyzes a situation before speaking, unlike Peter King, etc. So, back to occasionally watching parts of Countdown (DVR it and skip through much of it).”

Commented Jan 07, 2010 at 09:29:15 in Politics
“Get real about our government. When we have the GOP pouring poison into the system and obstructing EVERYTHING, deal making has to happen. LBJ had to deal in the backroom to get Medicare legislation passed. Progressives need to take off their rose colored glasses and realize that we have to get something passed and then work on it. Life is not perfect. I don't want to see Dems/Progressives/ grassrooters giving the GOP all this power to stop any health care legislation. claudiatucsonaz”

It is not helpful to our party, Democrats, to draw lines in the sand. It only gives the GOP fuel for their insane fires. “Wow - just when I think the GOP can't get any worse they come up with something else. All I can do now is shake my head, this is sickening. Unfortunately these right wing religious nuts think praying will solve everything. I learned in church that there are three choices we have Satan's path, the Lord's path or we can choose to make our own choice and pay the consequences. The Lord gave us the freedom to choose. Now I know the religious zealots will get all over me but, Oh well, I am tired of being preached to. Those that preach and pray are not better than I am. I live a good life, doing what is right and treating my fellow man with respect. I gave up on organized religion long ago. What the GOP is doing today just solidifies my departure. claudiatucsonaz”

Krugman: Health Care Fight Shows The Senate Has Become Dangerously Dysfunctional
Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 09:22:32 in Politics
“I am so glad Krugman has written about this. I was just telling my husband this this morning. We are in total gridlock. It would be one issue if the GOP showed rational thought on the subject. They strictly talk talking points along GOP ideology. There is no question that we have American's that do not have health care - either by being poor or loosing their job. What rational argument can you make against that? GOP line, we can't afford it - I have mine but you can't have health care? I am willing to pay my fair share for - the good of our country. That is true love of country (i.e., GOP talking point) "Patriotism" What needs to be addressed next is competition for the big bad Insurance industry. So that I can continue to afford health insurance. claudiatucsonaz”
TLV replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 09:28:54
“If only the obstructionist GOPers could get it through their thick skulls they are ALREADY paying MORE than their fair share because poor Americans and those just poor enough cannot pay for their own healthcare. They end up in the emergency room far too often and it is WE who do have insurance who have to cover those costs. If the United States, the wealthiest nation on earth, could provide universal healthcare, the overall costs would be reduced!
Perhaps it's time for a lesson on healthcare costs from Bill Nye The Science Guy. His technique of showing procees by using props works well for young minds - or those like the GOPers/TEA Baggers with brain block who need to see it to believe it.”

Senate Health Care Reform Takes Major Compromises

“As much as I feel there should be a public option or medicare expansion - I feel we got the best we could get. Here is the issue: Until our legislators start legislating on behalf of what is good for the American public - not big business/insurance, banking interests we will continue to have to fight for every little piece of legislation we can get. As long as we have the special interests/lobbyists spending the millions to influence our legislatures opinions we will continue to have total gridlock. Unless of course either side can hold a FIRM 60 votes. We need to get rid of the Filibuster - majority should rule. America has huge problems and American's need to stay engaged and continue to vote. As a member of the Dem party I think we need to rethink the blue dogs portion of our party. claudiatucsonaz”
