Don't Forget to Have Kids -- Part II

“Just want to clarify something. When I said "anyone in that situation," I was referring to a hypothetical husband and children for myself. Not anyone who finds themselves in the same situation.”

“Some of us do want to believe it and simply believe that they are not cut-out for the job. >_< If you don't think that you will be able to emotionally connect with any children you take care of, then why bother? If you don't think you'll be able to provide proper living situation for any child you take care of, then why bother? It will only wind up harming both you and the child.
Honestly, if more people took an honest appraisal of themselves in thinking about what they want out of life, I'll bet that children who do get taken care of will get, on average, much better parents.
People have different abilities. Just like it's not a good idea to try to build a life based on desk work if you can't sit still, it's not a good idea to have a child if you don't think you have the necessary skills to take care of one.”

“Ms. Brzezinski.
I'm fine with women who want to get married and have children doing it as early as they want to (as long as it's legal), but I take issue with you mildly because I happen not to be one of those women. I'll admit right now that I am not as person-centric as a lot of other people are. I think based on topics, not relationships too much, and I have trouble speaking to people and managing relationships with them. As such, even though I'm a youngster, I've decided that getting married and having children would probably be a burden not just on me, but on anyone in that situation, as I could never manage the 24 hr relationship. It would drive me nuts. I want to have a pet, since I can understand animals better than a lot of people, and I want to be able to work at a career I enjoy.
And I don't want to be looked down on for it!
A lot of times I read articles that insensitively imply that women who refuse to get married are simply refusing to grow up, and other such derogatory statements. While your post doesn't seem to be doing that, it's a pattern that generally troubles me. Those sorts of statements don't tend to occur when a man makes a similar decision.”

The interests of free speech may supersede our abhorrence at dog fighting videos as it has allowed degrading advertising by lawyers. That was my intent.”

HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff On Senate Dems Reaction To Public Option Loss (VIDEO)
Commented Sep 29, 2009 at 22:58:09 in Politics
“This is just ridiculous. If I could trust Congress to write a good public option along the lines of what Sekoff is talking about, I'd be all for it. After watching the joke of an energy bill get hashed out, though, how am I supposed to do that. Depending on how it's written, a public option could either provide proper competition against the insurance companies, or it could be an expensive boondoggle. This is not a case where something is better than nothing. I would rather have no public option and put in strong regulations than have a public option that the government spends a lot of money on and gets no good results from. That does not make me on the side of the insurance companies; that puts me on the side of reform that works as it's supposed to!”

“-_- Both sides are being ridiculous. The solution to this is simple. Yes, look for small minorities that may be at risk, but no, do not go off the schedule unless you know your child is in one of those minorities. Is that so hard to figure out?”
michyh replied on Jun 08, 2009 at 11:54:47
“It's not the vaccines themselves, likely, though could be something to do with them , of course. but the schedule is outrageous. What used to be stretched out over a long time, is now accelerated in a ridiculous way. I have been in the field and have seen the huge upsurge in these problems.
It's heartbreaking. Look at anything that might help. Families are understandably desperate.”

“The author forgets about the magnetism of a spectacle in assuming that everyone who watches FOX agrees with it. Plenty of people simply watch FOX News in order to see someone do something ridiculous. I'd attribute its gain in 18-49 year olds partially to that and partially in the general flight of the audience to the internet.”

The Judgment on Vaccines Is In???

“Yes, my mom got me my vaccines on the prescribed schedule, and I have ADHD that in some ways mimics Aspergers. But you know what else? My mom has a minor case of ADD herself, as does my uncle on her side of the family. Too many other variables come together in anecdotes without being taken into account.”

“Here here. As much as I enjoy Mr. Carey's acting skills, I think it is safe to say that the vaccines don't cause damage in the vast majority of cases. Doesn't mean that if issues come up, the parents shouldn't have the right to investigate, and in one or two cases out of thousands, there is something. But that's a lot of other people to hurt by telling them not to take the vaccine when it is indeed the safer option.”

“Agreed, by and large. This is a nice, nuanced piece. I don't think the trend highlighted harms anyone, either way, though, except if the audience gets as caught in the hype as some of the agents are. The comparisons to Murrow are definitely overblown. That said, it is nice to listen to Jon Stewart even when he does try to get philosophical - I certainly enjoy it. Just listen with a critical ear. ^_^”

“Rush is hype, Stewart and Cramer was actually informing us about something, yes the media glamorized it, but it was one the more truthful interviews I've seen in a long time, and looking at the ratings it seems to been an interesting topic for many of us. It actually was a brilliant piece of journalism. This could be a pivoting point for where the MSM takes note of the type of reporting we are all longing for, truth in information and questioning that "truth", if necessary.”

“To rephrase slightly, I'm not upset about that it leads to you thinking he has low emotional intelligence. I'd probably agree (if nothing else, from personal experience, sharing some of those qualities). What I take offense to is the idea that, assuming he does, that means he's mentally ill, as well as the idea that it should be a disqualifier from the Oval Office. Previous presidents (including some quite good ones) are also thought to have been similar.”

It's an immoral attack that goes outside of common decency. And if anyone wants an even more practical reason not to touch it, it looks unflattering to Obama when his supporters spread unproven rumors about an opponent with such glee, especially rumors of such a personal nature.
