The Obama Administration's Systemic Failure on Terrorism

The Obama Administration's Systemic Failure on Terrorism

Commented Jan 06, 2010 at 21:20:13 in Politics

“America invents a whole new set of parallel laws? That, is more dangerous than terrorism.

Right wingers turn out to be such cowards who do not believe in America.”

ObamaSupporterPete replied on Jan 06, 2010 at 21:36:06

“For all that talk about freedom, they sure seem the want to have an authoritarian state. Just so long as it is THEIR authority. This is what makes us better than them. We will afford you basic rights, we do this because we are civilized and have faith in the letter of the law. They can't complain about anything if they aren't just disappeared. A public trial and a verdict for a jury. All the guys we have taken to trial have been convicted and are serving out the rest of their miserable lives in high-security prisons. They aren't soldiers, they are terrorists. What you guys want is retribution. That is not justice.”

“Tiger Woods hubris? Tragic, overreaching arrogance that offends the gods?Tiger's problem is not arrogance. He would have been a horndog even if he was just a caddy. If you put an overeater in a buffer or make an alcoholic a bartender, the unfortunate result is not caused by arrogance, but by human weakness.

Regarding Obama, did you elect a dictator? Did you underestimate the power of the interests that created the status quo? So you really thought he could snap his fingers , twirl on his heel and everything would be right? The former regime scared us with its aspirations to dictatorship. Now you wanted a black genie.”

Strengthening the Estate Tax to Strengthen the Country

Commented Dec 17, 2009 at 20:00:59 in Politics

“Mr Gates understands. A permanent, ever richer small aristocracy and a shrinking middle class is a recipe for social and political instability. Countries that have gone down that path are brutal, nasty places.”

Neophile replied on Dec 17, 2009 at 22:48:38

“Absolutely! I just can't understand the shortsightedness of those who would abolish the estate tax. Without it all roads lead to plutocracy.”

Commented Dec 17, 2009 at 19:57:48 in Politics

“Personal hard-earned my posterior. Why don't you go to the moon alone and see how you would do with that "hard earned wealth" you are so proud of. Did you really earn anything on your own, without support and infrastructure from the country? Did you read Mr Gates article? There are too many people running around with all that weird stuff they picked up from John Birch Society and Ayn Rand.

These are the same privileged people who do not send their kids into the military but are ready to support ANY wars nilly-willy. A permanent aristocracy is a dangerous thing, and even Thomas Jefferson railed against it.”

"Great Man" Theory? History Is Driven by the Little Guy

Commented Dec 12, 2009 at 17:34:03 in Entertainment

“After the era of the robber barons and the days of Roosevelt, America learned that people should not trust their well being to the caprices and good will of great wealth, which really could not be trusted to put people first with notable exceptions such as Milton Hershey of Pennsylvania.

So, they got regulated and that prevented Communism from taking over America. If the middle and lower classes were perpetually deprived, that would have happened.

Then in the 70s - 2000s the ultra wealthy created institutes to spread the fiction that only by deregulation would there be wealth and growth in America. They conveniently forgot to state wealth for whom. People bought the lie and voted in governments that presided over the greatest transfer of wealth from the have a littles to the have it alls in the history of the planet. Now, things are bound to swing in the other direction and the little guy needs to pay attention.”

“Great wealth and power actually do transform people, most people who acquire them. Sadly, more often than not, the transformation is monstrous. It takes a lot of work to be equanimous.”

“Seconded and faved. Look at even the "nice guy" wealthy businessmen so admired today....Bill Gates turned Microsoft into a monopoly, squashing as much competition to his products as he could which is basically a betrayal of his love of innovation.

They get rich on the backs of millions and pay back a pittance/throw crumbs to the people in wages and philanthropy that made them so wealthy....and of course they don't want to pay taxes into the system that allowed them to acquire so much wealth.”

“There is no constitutional basis for the government developing the internet. It went ahead and did so any way. Same thing highways and space flight and a whole lot more. There is no constitutional basis for foreign aid. I guess we should stop it too.

You are calling government a thief? I would rather rely on government than on the tender mercies of wicked Christians. What did Jesus say when he looked at the Roman coin? Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's. If Caesar decides to promote the people's welfare with it, it is his right and privilege.”

“Americans have bought into this silly dream that if we really really really work hard at something, we could all become "successful". We have been sold a bill of goods tht we should not be upset that some people become astronomically wealthy doing nothing really valuable while we scramble to pay the electric bill. Right, we should not be upset because that would be "class warfare", the most shameful of things with which to be associated. The reality is that most of us will never become rich, but it is socially unjust that our lives should be like a long treadmill on which we are constantly falling backwards. The social order needs to be corrected so that ordinary people can live decently and the basics such as food, housing, healthcare are not part of a life and death struggle. Ordinary people may also have to reconsider their addiction to toys and entertainments that the hucksters sell to us as essential.

The proclivity to tearing down these wealthy celebrities when they falter might just be the welling anger of the suffering majority finding expression.”

Enough Of Tiger: It's Time for the Media to Answer Some Questions

Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 18:50:57 in Sports

“There is a little secret about the public, because the MSM is only serving the public as a market. These scandals sell. Why? Ordinary citizen America actually hates and resents its tin gods, the overpaid pitchmen, sports figures, actors etc. The public secretly believes that these folks are paid completely out of proportion to their contribution to society at the expense of their own under-appreciated hard work and drudgery. Therefore, when they have opportunity to tear down these tin gods, they do that with relish and a serving of schadenfreude. The MSM continues to dish up the goods and tools to animate the feeding frenzy. When they have torn Tiger to ribbons, they continue to serve up.”
