“We are foolish to direct our anger entirely at Bush. For all those who thought it didn't make a difference and didn't vote, or didn't get involved with government for oh so many years-- we are all at fault for our country's decline. As a nation we've been arrogant, self-absorbed and averse to engaging our resources for the common good. We allowed big pharm, big ag, big oil, and the people of War Inc. to take over the reigns of government. As our treasury was ransacked, smaller and smaller groups enjoyed good fortune at the expense of the working people. Thank you Bush for being chosen to reign over the destruction of that the house of cards. It just had to fall.... and leave an opening for a new light. The world is not ours to conquer any longer. It is time to rebuild our character and begin to rebuild our world with strength based on the values of cooperation, honesty, and good will and opportunity for all.”

“Sak, I am dismayed to see any attempt to take Obama's staff away for important issues they are dealing with. To react by saying a lawyer should be disbarred for an attempt to bring in evidence of what appears to be NON-criminal activity by his client is simply out-of-line. More likely disbarred if the attempt wasn't made. We give accused the right to defend. It's what makes this country great. Just too bad most of the poor, non-famous of the accused can't get their day in court like Gov B.”

Commented Dec 24, 2008 at 14:49:38 in Politics

“I am an avid supporter of initiatives for the humane treatment of animals. PETA has been responsible for getting information to expose the problems of unnecessary cruelty for corporate benefit. Still, to any but their most ardent supporters, their methodology--and the coverage it gets-- often garners sympathy with the general public for their corporate and individual targets. I don't think PETA focuses on hunting. Rather, the focus is on the unspeakable animal cruelty in trapping & production of furs & other products. Palin's advocacy of shooting wolves from airplanes & rewarding people who in their limbs is revolting and should exposed to scrutiny.”

“Go ahead, live in that euphoric state of denial. Enjoy it while it lasts. But the fact that the Republicans "Love" Rahmbo should be a warning sign.

II'm with Naomi Klein who says of Obama nauts that they are intellectually dishonest.
They bought into the myth of the Clinton Years (for political effect and good cause) but the reality is that Obama's economic staff is actually more of the same. The same forces (Wall street, deregulation) that brought us this mess, in fact the ground work for the current mess was laid, in part during the Clinton Years, but the same players, like Summers, Geithner and Orszag that are re emerging under Obama. I don't think Obama knows, I hope not, and I hope it is only a case of naivette, then again there are powerful forces at work to influence him and his policies.

All progressives should watch Democracy Now or at least read their daily transcripts such as

Their speeches for Obama were inspiring--and extremely helpful. And, you can be sure that Ayers & Wright would have surfaced even without her. Be thankful that things worked out like they did & stop focusing on blemishes. You may not like Hillary's ambition (& sorry--but that does seem a bit s e x i s t), but she has likely contributed a heck of a lot more for the citizens of this country than most of us have.”

Charles Barkley: Fox News "Fucked Up," Fox Hits Barkley On Gambling Debts

Commented Oct 29, 2008 at 16:08:41 in Media

“Glad for Charles Barkley's support for Obama... but there is no evidence about the Bradley Effect. In fact, it is used to justify why a vote steal is legit. Saying that the polls that show Obama ahead are not really true. Joe the Plumber. Hasselback & now Barkely being used by the press for interviews on topics they have no expertise about. Get the professor from NYU that's written 3 books on criminal vote theft-- and confirm that Bradley was defeated for other reasons.”

HatingTheGame replied on Oct 29, 2008 at 16:49:22

“I agree with you. I think all of these are pre-rationalizations for vote theft and rigging. When it happens, everyone will have a "theory" to back up the "unreality" and the conspiracy will be pulled off. I know I, and a lot of other Americans, are very much worried about this. When it happens, my fear also is that the MSM will step right in line and start going, "who would know that the country would do this?" And wring their hands that the polls were so wrong, but they would have a ready made "Bradley Effect" theory that the right wing will repeat endlessly, and middle America will applaud at white people finally seeing reason!

The same thing happened in 04 when all the exit polls predicted Kerry and lo and behold Bush pulls it off by a couple hundred votes, and instead of questioning the legitimacy of the vote, they just say "oh well, who knew that polls could be so wrong." Yeah, who knew?

I fear a repeat.

If it happens, two things have to happen. People have to take to the streets (but thanks to the revoking of posse comitatus, and the military on the streets of the US, they're prepared for that), and the media (who overwhelmingly supported Obama on the editorial pages) has to stand up.

Worst case scenario is that the military will quash protest, and the corporate owners will overrule editorial, and just accept a GOP steal.”

The conservatives and their corporate supporters had the most to fear from Edwards and the most to gain by first marginalizing hi during the primary season and then destroying his career. forever (if they could).

That said, apparently Edwards learned NOTHING from Bill Clinton's experiences....he ought to have realized that there were people out to destroy him and that constant surveillance was part of their plan.”

Wesley Clark Stands By McCain Criticism

Commented Jul 01, 2008 at 11:04:30 in Politics

“I was disappointed that Obama distanced himself from Gen. Clark, rather than elaborate. Of course General Wesley Clark was not putting down McCain for his service. What nonsense! The General simply stated that acts of heroism in service do not necessarily translate into good LEADERSHIP qualities. A more appealing response by Obama would be indignant that McCain would have framed the General as attacking McCain's military service. Disappointed with the Obama campaign's weak kneed reaction to such a sensible statement. Would anyone deny the truth of it?”

indeevoter replied on Jul 01, 2008 at 12:16:53

“I too was disappointed in Obama's response...deeply disappointed. I've continued to support Obama's candidacy, even though I haven't agreed with several recent decisions made by his campaign. But they were minor concerns to me - not like his repudiation of General Clark's comments.

Long before I knew of anyone named Barack Obama, I spent many months in 2003 as one of the early members of the Draft Wesley Clark movement...pledging, waiting, hoping, and praying that he would run. I remember being ecstatic when he jumped into the race - and devastated when he dropped out. Wes Clark is an honorable man, not someone who would take pot shots at a fellow veteran for partisan political advantage. What he said was true! John McCain most certainly knows that - and Barack Obama SHOULD have known that. But neither man has the XXXXX to acknowledge it. Despite their promises to run a different kind of presidential campaign, this 2008 campaign is beginning to look more and more like all those we've groaned through in the past.”
