“Unfortunently, these people didn't understand or know the japanes mind or culture, remember one thing that the japaneses still believed that they were capable of holding off the invasion of the Islands and were determine to fight to the end, certainly the main leaders and a majority of the younger military officers would not allow it. Maybe you should read the history of japan's military during that period.”

In other words, Japan wanted a conditional surrender on their terms.

America was only willing to accept unconditional surrender.”

On August 8, 1945, after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Hoover wrote to Army and Navy Journal publisher Colonel John Callan O'Laughlin, "The use of the atomic bomb, with its indiscriminate killing of women and children, revolts my soul."

May 28, 1945, Hoover
"MacArthur's views about the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were starkly different from what the general public supposed." He continues, "When I asked General MacArthur about the decision to drop the bomb, I was surprised to learn he had not even been consulted. What, I asked, would his advice have been? He replied that he saw no military justification for the dropping of the bomb. The war might have ended weeks earlier, he said, if the United States had agreed, as it later did anyway, to the retention of the institution of the emperor."
"...when we didn't need to do it, and we knew we didn't need to do it, and they knew that we knew we didn't need to do it, we used them as an experiment for two atomic bombs."

General Curtis LeMay, who had pioneered precision bombing of Germany and Japan (and who later headed the Strategic Air Command and served as Air Force chief of staff), put it most succinctly: "The atomic bomb had nothing to do with the end of the war."”

Would love to hear what tax subsidies and breaks they are getting. I hear people throw those terms around all the time but never with any substantiated details.”

Don't they put inordinate number of hours at very little profit to get it going and keep it going? If a business borrows money, it does have to make payments to its creditor. I think that your reasoning is incomplete. It's very one-sided. It is no different from the conservatives that only see things their way.”

Alimony, child support, tax breaks, paying less for healthcare which women use far more of, 63% less jail time for crime, child custody, 80% of divorce filed by women, 67% domestic abuse commited by women, 64% of child abuse committed by women, 86% of social safety net programs used by women...I could go on.”

socialkombat on Dec 5, 2013 at 14:10:16

“I'm still not seeing how any of this relates to the article or to women being spoiled brats. Sources for stats would be appreciated. I'm having trouble buying the domestic abuse figure. In addition, the jail time statistic is misleading. Minor offenses, nonviolent crimes, and drug crimes carry lesser sentences, and women commit less violent than men (which brings longer sentences). Women are also more likely to be single parents. In the single parent realm, single mothers are more likely to be poor and in need to government assistance as opposed to single fathers. And I really must ask again: why should fathers not financially support their children in a divorce situation. This all comes off all old school he-man woman-hating, I'm sorry to say.”

Now that women believe that they are better off working as wage slave jobs having day care raise their children and no financial safety net once the alimony and child support run out before age 65. “Here let me help you out. Sonja Starr, an assistant law professor at the University of Michigan, found that men are given much higher sentences than women convicted of the same crimes in federal court.

The study found that men receive sentences that are 63 percent higher, on average, than their female counterparts.

So, when men commit crimes they are punished accordingly, when women commit crimes society makes excuses.”

Proserpina Libera on Dec 5, 2013 at 12:34:13

“Who's making excuses? I'm trying to find out if anyone is gauging the mental health of men involved in those crimes as much as they for women. So far the closest I've come in a study that said mentally ill people were more likely to be victims of domestic abuse, so I'm just at a loss. There are also plenty of male murderers that walk on small sentences, and many that serve no time at all for violent crimes.”

“I laugh at your attempted argument. It's ridiculous. Like I said to the previous poster, that's like saying "Orange jumpsuits are really popular in America....if you include the prison population."

It's so ludicrous as to be humorous. This article is not about prison. You demean free women and their plight with your out of place statistics. Just because you make a point about a serious subject does not mean it's valid or it belongs.

And what about women raped in prison? Where are your stats on that? You didn't include them. Are no women raped in prison? Do they not count?

It's okay to be way off on a subject. It happens. Just be logical when someone points out your obvious error in judgement. This has nothing to do with prison. Your argument is out of place and off base and doesn't belong.”

Proserpina Libera on Dec 5, 2013 at 11:38:57

“Yeah some women can be as violent as some men. Some women can have just as many mental problems, too, and more often than men they have access too or are left alone with unfortunate children. When you hear about infanticide what follows if often an examination of the mother and her life, and often the findings are that a mental illness was involved. That doesn't mean every mom in the history of killing her kid was just crazy, but that's usually why that happens. I'd like to know how many men are diagnosed with a mental illness after taking out the entire family or killing their partner, however (not trying to be snarky, I really wonder and am having a hard time finding that data anywhere.) Until I have those number though, I don't think I can draw a parallel.”

The most recent large-scale study of domestic violence was published in the American Journal of Public Health in 2007. (Differences in Frequency of Violence and Reported Injury Between Relationships With Reciprocal and Nonreciprocal Intimate Partner Violence) The researchers analyzed data concerning 11,370 respondents. According to the researchers, “[H]alf of [violent relationships] were reciprocally violent. In non-reciprocally violent relationships, women were the perpetrators in more than 70% of the cases.” (This study is illustrated in the diagram below from the Psychiatric News, 8/3/07).

In a large representative study that examined the characteristics of perpetrators in substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect in the United States, neglect was the main type of abuse in 66% of cases involving a female caregiver, compared to 36% of cases involving a male caregiver (US DHHS, 2005).
