“@jl13: You are absolutely correct! The defense chose not to use SYG and the prosecution did not see this as a SYG case. It WAS mentioned in the instructions given by the judge to the jury. A little influence from retired judge Daddy Zimmerman?
Contrast the decision in the Marissa Alexander trial. This woman protected herself from an abusive husband and harmed NO ONE, yet she was handed a 20 year sentence.
Stand Your Ground was basically written by the NRA and results in a disproportionate number of African Americans being affected by this law.
As an old, white, retired teacher, even I can see that these two cases illustrate a racism problem.
Let's stand OUR ground and do the right thing. We can change Florida and the nation.”

“He was a magistrate, which is more clerical according to the statement by the courts he worked at. Now that I heave listened to it, it is clear that she is referring to the self-defense statute 776.013 which is absolutely relevant.
The Alexander case is very different although it does have the same prosecutor. She was not allowed to use SYG because she ran into her garage, grabbed her gun out of her car, and then ran back into the house to fire her shot. Being arrested for assaulting her husband (in the weeks following her arrest) and the admitted facts around her reckless actions got her convicted. The harsh sentence came from the 'tough on guns' 10/20 mandatory sentence laws.”
“When the French had no bread, but Marie Antoinette kept spending like money was water, she said, "Let them eat cake." Now Republican politicians say, "Let them go to the ER." Sure, you'll get treatment, but if you need cancer treatment going to the ER is like putting a band aid on a malignant tumor.
Getting back to Marie Antoinette, history now claims that she never said
such a horrible thing; however, we KNOW what the Republicans have said in regard to health care. We know Romney's opposition to the auto bailout
that saved thousands of jobs. What was it that Romney said about foreclosures? Just let everything take it's course so investors would buy up houses, renovate them and fill them with renters. My point is that Romney, Ryan and Republican obstructionist politicians are actually worse than pre-revolution France. Has everyone had enough?
The Marseillaise ( the French national anthem) says it all.”

“these people couldnt just be rich= they have to game the whole system- and put their feet on our throats too”
“This reminds me of Goldmember saving his pieces of skin in a box. Actually, life would be much easier if she saved these stank puppies in a box. It would save her loads of money, too, as she spends $200 weekly on her nails. She'd be able to afford a shoe addiction.”
“The "dead baby strategy" is only a part of Hamas' repertoire. They're good at "playing possum" themselves then being caught getting up and walking away. A woman lost her home, everything destroyed TWICE in one week, playing "everything I have was destroyed." They're good at parking large weapons that have just been fired in front of civilian homes. When the IDF destroys the weapon, women and children who were forced to stay inside their house are killed. That's death if you leave and death if you don't. How anyone can support the acts of Hamas is beyond me.”
“lemmyk73 said, "ITs over folks. Not saying God is real but if/when science proves the God we all think of is a tall tale, the world is going to go crazy with chaos. There will no longer be any reason or incentive to not kill, pillage and rape your fellow person."
Lemmyk73, I'm not taking sides either way on your chaos theory as I feel that whether or not you are a believer, no matter what name you use for your deity, it's strictly a personal decision. It seems to me that the number of believers willing to kill, pillage and rape in the name of their deity is clearly in the billions.”
“There are PLENTY of white counterparts. Don't we see this crazy stuff every day from people of all races on Jerry Springer and Maury?
I didn't see where there was a story. He knows their ages, names, and he supports them (and their mamas in a style they've never had before!) so he's a step up from most of the people on Springer and Povich alone. This man needs to use his head for more than just a place to put a helmet. If you're going to indulge with golddiggers, Antonio, take steps to protect yourself. Start with prophylactics.”

“Evidently he is not supporting them, hence the 5 paternity suits.”
“This scenario is what the Republicans really want: People scrambling to make a living, no time to keep up on the political issues. There will be no safety nets: unemployment, food stamps, etc., so everyone will have several minimum wage jobs. Everyone working ridiculous numbers of hours per week while their standard of living slides backward. Every cent they earn going out for medical bills because of no coverage or poor coverage. Utilities, food, and the cost of any basic necessity totally unregulated for cost or safety. The Republicans figure that'll keep the peasants busy and too exhausted for politics and their labor costs low. It's a win-win situation for them.
The Republicans care so much about life that they've allowed unsafe, unregulated poisoned food into the country, don't care if we have good comprehensive health insurance, or unemployment or food stamps when we're down and out.
Some of us will die because of their decisions.
WHY WOULD ANYONE OF SANE MIND PUT THEM IN OFFICE?”
“'Barack Obama is the worst president in history." What a great one-liner....for a stand-up comedian!
"Drug cartels in Mexico. Tax cartels in D.C. What's happened to America?" Ronald Reagan and the Bush Family scammed America and created the horrific mess we're in and the Quayle family is part of it. Daddy forgot to tell you, didn't he?”
“Obviously, if she killed the children to keep them from their father, then she was insane and should not have had custody. The father was apparently making an attempt to rescue them from miserable lives, but we don't know the full story as yet.
What a shame that these three little people lived for such a short time. May they rest in peace.”
“Not only are bellies mostly full, and brains are hypnotized with movies and video games, you left out the millions who are taking Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, etc. I am seriously concerned that there may not be enough enraged citizens to storm the Bastille.”
