Hamas Is Largely to Blame for Israel's Gaza Offensive
Commented Dec 31, 2008 at 11:26:39 in World
“The Palestinians freely voted for Hamas in Gaza. Hamas fires rockets into Israel. Hamas refuses to extend the cease-fire to which THEY did not adhere but Israel did. The end result is that Israel is attempting to put an end to the missiles. By voting for Hamas the Palestinian Gazans took the assumption of risk and knowingly and overwhelmingly voted for it. They fully understood that Hamas is not concerned with their lives or well-being.”

“The Gazans voted in a terrorist government thereby assuming risk. Just as I cannot hold it against a store clerk for shooting me after I rob him at knife point, this is assumption of risk.
Gazans voted in a terrorist government and in doing so approved of taking whatever retaliation the Israeli government might choose to mete out in their own self defense. In this case Israel wants to stop the repeated bombing of the southern part of Israel.”

“Yes, they want to cut the tremendously overpaid blue-collar auto workers' pay by 50%, but the Repugnant art truth-telling exaggerates auto workers' wages to $75.00/ hour. In actuality, they'll be making no more that those who work in the right-to-work states for slave wages and in some instances, less.
Perhaps it IS time to cut a lot of things in half. Let's start by cutting the wages and benefits of US senators by 50%. They'll still be making FAR MORE than auto workers.
One of the Rethugs predicted riots or blood in the streets. I'm just not sure if he knows that the violence will be directed at them. After all, the majority of the American people are FOR the Detroit bailout.
At least if we do have to endure a depression with the loss of millions of jobs, this should be the end of the Rethug party. I guess even a truly horrendous black cloud has a silver lining.
Thanks, Rethugs, for uniting the workers of the world, especially the workers of the USA.”

“You rock! I, too, am an old straight lady & former teacher, and I couldn't agree with you more. I cannot understand the fear that people have and the hate they display over gays having the right to a civil (or religious) union. How does it hurt anyone? It is beyond me how many people cry "sinner" at gays when we are all sinners. Perhaps we should deny marriage to those that lie, cheat on their taxes or drive too fast (many I see speeding have a fish on their bumper). I don't think it's a sin as people are usually born that way. Those that say it is don't think God makes mistakes; if that's the case then it's not a mistake to be born gay! When I taught pre-school, I had a boy who, at 4, exhibited feminine traits that we're blatantly obvious to be in-bred. The poor child probably was teased as he got older and felt shame and fear for most of his life, as most gays do. It's so sad to single out one group, and say it's OK to hurt and humiliate them. That's not how I was raised, and I don't believe it's what Jesus would do.”

Why Barry Goldwater Couldn't Support Obama

“Having been one American who never voted for George Bush, always for his opponents, I most certainly do feel that there is something at stake here for non-American citizens. Your letter would probably not have done any good whatsoever as the CEO of Diebold, the company that provided electronic voting to most of Ohio, promised to deliver Ohio to GWB "on a silver platter". Bush was NOT elected the first time, nor was he re-elected.
Both elections ('00 and '04) and were stolen and the Bushies are behind McCain-Palin. I wouldn't be shocked if something occurred to put McCain in office (or a dire "emergency" allowing Bush to remain in office and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. Leaving the country is not the solution. That would be two fewer (my husband, too) liberal voters and two fewer voices of persuasive reason in the US. There are attorneys everywhere as we speak in states with early voting. Our only choice is to do everything we possibly can to make things better for my country and the world.”

Well said, totalliberal, but the answer here is also GOOD government, not the type of government Republicans give us. Yesterday, the GOP was stuck down in the Ohio Supreme Court, I believe, trying to do away with same-day voter registration/ voting. They only want regulation to benefit themselves, not "Joe Six-Pack". At least in this case we avoided a bad decision as this law would have favored the Repubs and would have been unjust.
So we need good, functioning, caring government. Any laws won't do. Refer to infamous Supreme Court Decisions such as Dred Scott V. Sanford and Bush V. Gore. The first decision declared slaves property and the second one.....”

“Uptick wrote,"My God, how is this election even close? If Obama was a white man, had blonde hair and blue eyes, I wonder what his lead would be right now. I could be wrong but this is the only explanation I can come up with."
Some people have other motives for not voting for Obama, such as the abortion issue, gay marriage, gun control, etc., but I believe that in the majority of cases, you are correct, Uptick. The largest percentage of those who won't vote for Obama are simply out-and-out racists who would prefer to vote for the pair who would not only NOT help people in need in our nation, but would also put us ALL in harm's way with their dangerous saber-rattling.
My personal preference would be the logical thinking of two people who taught law and have come from our ranks in the not-so-distant past. Obama and Biden haven't been "divorced" from ordinary lives for so long that they don't have a clue about what ordinary citizens must do to provide their families with the necessities, including health care.
Please listen and judge these four people on the issues, not race.”

Having been divorced and through the dating mill, but now happily married to a great guy, I called GW Bush and Cheney on the nose. Experience is an excellent, if harsh, teacher. When we're speaking of one woman or one family, that's tragic enough, but with the president and vice-president we're talking an entire country, and perhaps the world. My assessment to this day is that the average American has absolutely NO IDEA what we're dealing with these two in the two highest offices in the land. Wake up, ladies, and PAY ATTENTION, close attention, to the people running for public office. And while you're at it, do the same with your men, too.”

“Well said, olephart! The president we have now, who happens to be hated here and the world over, is not even capable of leading the third shift at a McDonald's, let alone the free world. Bush is a post turtle. When you see a turtle sitting on top of a post, you know he hasn't gotten up there on his own. Do we need another post turtle who graduated at the bottom of his class (and most likely graduated only because his father and grandfather were both admirals) and who has a billionaire wife?
We've got to increase the number of candidates with the mental capacity, temperament and all the positive attributes it takes to be the president of the US. Any time we disqualify someone because of race or gender we're harming ourselves, our nation, and the world.
On the other hand, if a candidate possesses a famous name, comes from great wealth or a well-known political family but doesn't have the qualities necessary for the making of a good president, then we ARE harming millions, potentially billions of people if that person actually becomes president. It's the old Rovian, "Here's a man I can make president" trick, not a person who SHOULD be president. To this very day, I am confounded as to why there wasn't blood in the streets over the so-called "elections" of both 2000 and 2004.”
