Common Defense and General Welfare are precedents to securing the blessings of liberty.
Sounds like our founding fathers did know about the advantages of cooperative action in setting up a government. Reference the pre-constitutional snake flag. And they knew about the necessity to tax. See the maritime trade health and hospital tax that predated Obamacare by more than 200 years.
