Electric Car Conversion Kit Turns Your Honda Civic Into a Zero-Emission Vehicle

Electric Car Conversion Kit Turns Your Honda Civic Into a Zero-Emission Vehicle

“That is way overpriced. I'm sure you can convert a car much cheaper than this. There is the idea of turning a car into a mild hybrid by putting in-hub motor on the rear wheels while keeping the existing drivetrain.

I could buy a used Chevy Volt that has about 38 miles of EV range for about $21K, cheaper in the future and it looks better than a 7th gen Civic, and safer.”

“Secondly, the computer would only get this virus if they didn't have proper virus protection with proper heuristic analysis to detect unknown viruses, such as ones trying to modify the BIOS.
Thirdly, this virus would need to gain administrative privileges of the Operating System in order to have the ability to inject the corruption in to the CMOS chip where the BIOS is stored. Yes it is possible it could gain access through a backdoor in some software but that is unlikely and very unlikely that this backdoor would be present in all the computers in the world!Yes, Windows XP runs user accounts with administrative privileges by default, so the virus would not need permission there. BTW, I notice the computer she is using is running Windows XP! The NSA had better upgrade before Microsoft stops patching XP, which will occur April 8th 2014. Because then future patches to newer Operating Systems will inform hackers of vulnerabilities in XP, that Microsoft will not patch.
Fourth, computers use BIOSes from different manufactures, the virus would need to be able to detect this to know what to inject into the CMOS chip in order to brick the computer.
Fifth, most modern computers have a way to recover the BIOS, by inserting a USB stick with the original BIOS that you can easily download from the computer's support website. So you could turn that brick into a computer again.Cheap shot, NSA.”

“10:20 in the "part 1, inside the NSA" video, that data wasn't taken, it was copied. If Snowden did remove data from the NSA's servers (if he had the proper administrative privileges), they surely would have found out soon.

3:30 in the "part 2, a Snowden affair" video, a BIOS attack? The NSA believes it would have worked if they didn't stop it?
Firstly, the virus could not get on a computer unless it was not behind a firewall. Most computers are behind not only a firewall in the device that acts as the gateway to the internet on the network, but also there is a firewall running on the computer itself. So in other words, the user would have to download this virus and accidentally run it.
Second, the computer would only get this virus if they didn't have proper virus protection with proper heuristic analysis to detect unknown viruses, such as ones trying to modify the BIOS.

“The infrastructure for electric cars exist today. It's called power outlets.

Powering an electric car from a coal powered plant is better than driving a gas car and over time that plant will have less emissions due to new regulations. The gas car won't. Also electric cars can make the grid more efficient by providing buffering.
In some states most of the electricity is made with hydropower, like in Oregon/Washington I believe.

Hydrogen; It takes a lot of energy to gather Hydrogen from water, so in the end you might as well just go with electric cars. Besides, hydrogen cars have electric drivetrains anyway (fuel cell converts Hydrogen to electricity).

Materials for making electric cars; Yes it does take some exotic materials like neodymium and rather plentiful lithium, but at the end of the car's life most of that can be recycled into new products.

Cost of electric cars; Over time used electric cars like a 2011 Volt or Leaf will get cheaper and cheaper. For instance a 2011 Volt is down to $25,000 or so, and a used 2011 Leaf is down to $20,000 or less.”

ModMark on Oct 14, 2013 at 08:25:10

“"Powering an electric car from a coal powered plant"

Using how electric is generated for evaluating the effectiveness of PHEV/EV car is a bit unfair in my opinion. All industries can do their part and the car manufacturers have no control on how electric is generated.

If Waste Management tosses my recyclable waste into the landfills, is that my fault?

At this point in time, I agree with you. Just use an existing outlet. The electric transport model will work with the "one off peak charge per day" use. Trying to promote EV as an effective method for long distance transportation may cause more harm than good at this point in time.

For extended range, buy a Volt instead.”
