Oh yeah, the 2nd commission concluded that there was likely more than one person involved but with the evidence gone, it cannot be proven.”

“Thank you for being engaged in this important issue. I am no diplomat, but I don't think anyone sees that as a solution. My opinion is that we stop throwing money at corruption and that includes bureaucracy heavy NGOs. Clinton seems to be the first Secretary of State who has even studied the complexity of a system of corruption and oppression that dates back to King Leopold. The idea that has been floated for a female police force to guard the women in the camps is excellent, although does not address the larger issue of institutionalized corruption.Don't give money to big organizations..give humanitarian aid to grassroots initiatives there. There are many. Women and childrem do not need huge hospitals in Bukavu with mediation gardens. They need community hospitals, clinics, local police forces as a beginning.”

“What does America have to do with Christians in Pakistan?”
blutigeroo replied on Aug 07, 2009 at 01:56:27
“Its the fact that America is a predominantly Christian nation and the people of Pakistan have suffered a lot in the past 8 years. The Taliban/AQ have entered their country and virtually destroyed it.
Also, it relates back to the white superiority that they experienced under British rule--most of the Brits were Christians. They were stripped of their rights, lands and killed ruthlessly once the Hindus allied with the Brits.
They see America as another Britian: eager to expand at all costs.”

Liberia's "Lucky Game": The Hopeless Work of Diamond Boys

“I think that the Diamond boys are smarter than they get credit for. All they have to do is swallow one or two a week.”
hp blogger Robert Blair replied on Jul 02, 2009 at 05:29:14
“Interestingly, when a miner realizes that his diamonds are being stolen, he looks for the broker that bought them and demands to be paid his due. The broker ends up getting punished for the diamond boy's theft, which makes cheating a very lucrative possibility for both the diamond boys and the guards. So I think you're right. Still, most of the diamond boys I spoke to told me that, no matter how much they steal, they still live on basically nothing -- a cup of rice a day and leftovers from their last decent find.”

“I have attended a few of Donna Karen's events pertaining to integrative therapy and it's not about making a buck...(although I have nothing against anyone doing good and doing well at the same time) ...you are way too cynical. She is committed and dedicated and is an amazingly sharing person. Her recognition that there "was a need to provide care and comfort for patients" is no different from Jill Bolte Taylor, the neuroscientist who had a stroke and in her recent book "My Stoke of Insight", noted that although her left brain was severely wounded and she was unable to walk, talk, read, write or recall any of her life, her right brain was fully aware and observed the lack of compassion that existed in some of her caregivers in the hospital. She concluded that is is critically important to be touched, to be spoken to gently and to be comforted when one is a patient in the hospital. Keep up the good work Donna....”
