“The article discusses a do over to fix the website. The Affordable Care Act will undergo many changes over the course of time. It will evolve. If you research the evolution of healthcare legislation in those countries that have come before us, you will get a peek into our future. As to your reference to the math, it is prudent to use nonpartisan, academic sources for more accurate predictability. What we glean from the media and the internet is tainted by partisanship. A college library will give access to purer sources from which to make a better informed opinion. It is to our benefit to debate the merits from a full set of accurate information. I learned this while doing a college research project concerning Social Security. Eye opening.”

“The thrust here is justice, for all three dead children. The article references community rumors of a deathbed confession. To think that righting this one suspected miscarriage of justice would resolve racism is to have as shaky a grasp of racism as that court had of the evidence in the murder of those two little girls.”

“The segment of the 47% that work do pay payroll taxes, designated for SS and Medicare, along with state income taxes. Retired seniors and people who are disabled and unable to work are included in this number. They also pay other kinds of taxes, such as property taxes and consumer taxes. Incredibly, included in the 47% are very wealthy people that don't hold jobs. Some of these people have paid their fair share throughout their working years. Some of these people are significantly disabled as to be unemployable. Some are so wealthy they don't need to work. Then there are the working poor, who do work, but make barely enough to get by. They return every cent they make back into the economy. The very wealthy shelter a lot of their money, away from the economy. When the whole picture is considered, the argument about who isn't paying their fair share is not so simple. As a rehab teacher who works with multiply disabled adults, I can assure you that fairness in life is forever elusive for some.”

“There is wisdom in what you say. What may work well in one state may not work well in another. That is why there are criteria and standards set in this legislation that leave each state free to develop a system suited to its citizens. Some states have done this, each different from the rest. Others have chosen not to. The citizens of those states have available to them the federal options, which are set up similar to the MA system, where you pick from a variety of plans offered by medical insurance companies. I do agree that there is a certain inefficiency with so many different medical insurance companies competing. That is the allure of single payer. We just may find more states moving to that over time. It is interesting to read about how this has played out in other countries, Canada, for instance. That said, I have more faith in America to long endure than you. We are a government of, by, and for the people, as my favorite politician so eloquently stated during a much more difficult period of our history. ”
