“In the movie "Mars Attacks," there is a scene in which the evil Martians are going through a town with a voice translator that is proclaiming, "Do not run away, we are your friends," or words to that effect, while they kill every human or animal that comes in contact. I had the same sensation upon hearing Lou Dobbs was reaching out to Hispanics so he can build a political base. Of course, I am exercising a form of crass hyperbole, because the Martians are fiction and Lou Dobbs is real and has done untold damage to racial and ethnic relations in this country by inciting so-called 'nativists" (how are they nativists if they are third nation immigrant Americans*?).

Any Hispanic who falls for him must be plain stupid or a Republican, which is really the same thing. It's like being a capitalist who supports Stalin or an African American who wants to be in the Ku Klux Klan. It's just plain stupid.

*Native Americans=the first nation immigrants; Hispanics (of all races)=the second nation immigrants; every other foreigner who came afterwards=third nation immigrants.”

“Personally, I hope that the Palinists do for all the congressional districts in 2010 what they did in this congressional district: split the Republican-Right-Wing vote and get a progressive Democrat elected. That way we can have real reform in Washington: bankruptcy reform with cramdown, banks under strict supervision, real health care reform, etc.”

“Cite the Supreme Court case that makes a statement about "Imposing YOUR religious beliefs on those of us who do not believe that abortion is a sin IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL." You won't be able to. The Supreme Court doesn't make statements about sin. Sin is in the venue of religions, not politics or law. An offense against God and the rights of humans is a sin; a violation against the State or and individual is a crime. Do you understand the difference?”

dcrinaz replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 23:46:33

“The Supreme Court has also held that African-Americans were not people of citizens of the United States and could never be considered citizens of the United States. That was a patently absurd notion because Blacks are obviously and naturally human like anyone else, were always human and will always be human; the Supreme Court invented a definition that denied the natural humanity of African Americans. The Supreme Court f-ed up then as it has f-ed up on the issue of unborn human beings.

To go directly to the point: if a fetus is not human, then you have to make the absurd claim that it is not human, i.e. inhuman. Now tell me how a being with a human genetic code from the very instance of its its inception can be not human? What is the fetus if it is not a human fetus? An orangutan fetus? A fish fetus? Of course not. It is human.

I could make the case that idiots are not really human because they don't make full use of their faculty of reason; but would that really make you not human?”

oldguru replied on Nov 13, 2009 at 17:11:14

“The Supreme court has upheld the separation of Church and state several times. Their rulings have nothing to do with sin. It has to do with the guarantees of freedom of religion in the Constitution ,which also guarantees freedom FROM religion. However, an offense against the rights of HUMANS is not just a sin, but an offense against the Constitution. Fetuses are not humans yet. That is why they are called Fetuses.”

“Well, you are wrong. And just as opinionated as the worst right-wing teabagger. You're just like them, except you have another type of hair up your derriere. Most Catholics voted for Obama. Why? Because OFFICIAL church policy tells Catholics to weigh all considerations, not just one. Look what happens when people believe and speak out of ignorance. They sound like fascists.”

Would you help me some more? What specifically is wrong with my statement, which I will repeat here:

"I think it's fair to say that all of the single-issue, pro-life Catholics have already come to the conclusion which party is in agreement with them and have been voting Republican."

By the way, having been on such forums a while, I'm quite familiar with ad hominems, but I must say this is the first time I have been accused of having hair up my ass.”

“Have you understood the Constitution? And by the way, it's in the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, not in the original. Do you understand that the government cannot force a religion to do its bidding? And aren't your trying to impose your particular beliefs on the country by demanding gay marriage, demanding abortion, and demanding things that other Americans see as unacceptable? That's what Democracy is about. Catholics have the same right as anyone else to participate in the body politic. Grow up. That's what America is about. “Part 1 of 1

I find this Catholic-bashing, which is just a specialized form of Christian-bashing, to be quite indicative of the fact that they are anything but liberals, whom most would characterize as being tolerant, open-minded, respectful of the rights of others and to be non-judgmental. Perhaps we need to define a leftist as being different from a liberal because these anti-Christian leftists in particular seem more like the right-wingers in their narrow-minded bigotry, intolerance, lack of logic and bias. Perhaps they only thing that separates a right-winger from a leftist bigot is what they chose to believe, not how they believe or wish to condemn everyone who does not agree with them. So an extreme leftist may chose to be an atheist, and a right-winger may chose to be a racist, but the way they came to their beliefs, they way they want to impose their beliefs show the same ignorance, intolerance and judgmentalism.”

nwfurn replied on Nov 13, 2009 at 01:07:48

“So tell us what you think about the years of destructive sexual abuse of children at the hands of priests, while the powers that be, knew and did nothing. Still do nothing. Was it just God Love or what. How anyone can support this criminal enterprise and keep a straight face is beyond me. How's that for some tolerance?”

oldguru replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 19:51:13

“Have you ever read the Constitution? The part that says that the state shall not establish any religion, nor prevent anyone from practicing their beliefs? The Roman Catholic Church is seeking to IMPOSE its religious beliefs on everyone in this country. It is heavy handed, and as you can see from the posts on this thread, many people are very offended by the inteference in secular matters by the church. Believe what you want, but do not insist that I believe it or that I abide by your idea of morality. If the church continues this kind of behavior, they are just shooting themselves in the foot. I have written today to the Inspector General fo Tax Administration asking why the church still enjoys its tax exemption as a religious organization, when they are clearly a political one.

There is no bashing of the Catholic Church that is not soundly deserved.”

jackbutler5555 replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 19:40:28

“Does not the Ctholic Church wish to impose its beliefs on others, by going well beyond teaching its doctrines. The Church would have those doctrines embodied in law, would they not? In that sense, could the Catholics also be guilty of intolerance, etc?”
