Yet he claims to be an advocate for human rights and he's begging for help from Russia and Venezuela of all places. Talk about hypocritical.”

I mean, Michelle has never been viewed as fat or as someone who has a binge-eating problem, so where's the satire or humor in creating a persona of somehow that has absolutely no relation to reality?”

Court: Rahm Emanuel Can't Run For Mayor, Not Chicago Resident

Commented Jan 24, 2011 at 16:13:06 in Chicago

“This is from the actual decision. If it takes MORE than this to be a legal resident, then we're all in big trouble. lol

At all relevant times, including the time he was in Washington, D.C., the candidate continued to pay property taxes for the Hermitage house, continued to hold an Illinois driver’s license listing the Hermitage house as his address, continued to list the Hermitage house address on his personal checks, and continued to vote with the Hermitage house as his registered voting address. He did, however, pay income tax in 2009 and 2010 to both Washington, D.C., and Illinois.”

Duppy on Jan 24, 2011 at 16:25:49

“Well, he technically lives in Illinois but works in DC. So his paying taxes in both places sounds about right”

He did not live in the city as prescribed by Chicago rules to be eligible to run for Mayor. Simple as that.”

“This is a specific rule applying to running for the office of mayor in Chicago--most likely made by the Democrats since the Republicans are a nonentity there. To say that we are ALL in trouble because of this is pure hyperbole.”

Court: Rahm Emanuel Can't Run For Mayor, Not Chicago Resident

Commented Jan 24, 2011 at 16:07:48 in Chicago

“I'm confused and a bit disturbed by this decision. I can't help but think of how this would affect so many other people. For instance, if my company were to move me from my residence in South Carolina to a temporary job in say, California, and I choose to rent out my house because I don't want to pay a mortgage and pay rent, does that disqualify me from claiming South Carolina as my legal residence? I mean, I'd still hold the mortgage and continue to pay taxes to SC, but I would not live there.

The issue here seems to be the difference between "residence" (ie, where you make your physically live for purposes of work or school) and "domicile" (ie, where you establish your place of perminance and pay taxes) when you are residing in a place that is temporary. These two should not and do not always have to be the same.”

hlj on Jan 24, 2011 at 17:04:54

“Seems Rahm is either a job hopper or just can't finish what he sets out to do.
It was his choice to go to Wash. Guess he came to realize that Obama wasn't gonna finish what he set out to do, so he'd get back to Chicago before anyone would blame him for the one term President thing.
The criticism Palin took over not finishing the Gov. job - such Demmy-hippos.
How many positions have been vacated the Obama admin. so far; and after less than half way?”

fourtruth on Jan 24, 2011 at 16:51:45

“I don't konw about all states - Arizona and Oregon both require one to register as a resident once you spend over 6 months in that state. It has nothing to do with property ownership or paying taxes at all - my Dad has to make sure he spends 6 months in AZ.

So, point is I guess you cannot have residency in more than one state or you would be able to vote more than once?

However, this should not apply to Public Service where one is obligated to move to another State to do their job - such as Congress - do they really spend 6 months in their home states - I believe they all went home to vote? Emmanual is differnt of course, he is not an elected offical serving in a capacity to represent Ohio.

My head is spinning. I hope he is, as he says, able to overcome this - this is just a wrong law. And I can't help but wonder if these two judges are Bush appointees? And why hasn't Obama gotten rid of at least some of those Bush appointees?”

naschkatze on Jan 24, 2011 at 16:35:33

“This decision only affects Rahm Emanuel and any other person who runs for mayor of Chicago. The operating rule was most likely decided upon by Democrats in Chicago or Cook County where Republicans are an endangered species.”

DJlaysitup on Jan 24, 2011 at 16:25:14

“But you see - this is a very specific rule that applies to the city of Chicago for the purpose of being eligible to be mayor there...it isn't a country-wide voting rule or part of the tax law.”

naschkatze on Jan 24, 2011 at 16:25:05

“Oh puhleeze, I'm running out of breath. This decision only applies to running for the mayor of Chicago. The rule is you must live, actually reside, in the city a year prior to running for mayor. The rule was made by Emanuel's fellow Democrats, and he jolly well should have known it. If he was serious about running for mayor all along, he should have resigned from the WH in time to establish that residency.”

RattleCat on Jan 24, 2011 at 16:15:56

“Most (all?) states already have such rules.  For SC, I believe you have to prove you stayed at the address for at minimal 14 days out of the year.  If you cannot, then technically, you are banking on the fact that no one will catch you.”

“Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can be "homeless" if you CHOOSE to not go home. He can go back to Texas, but he chooses not to; therefore, it's kinda hard to sympathize with him. There are a lot of homeless with neither home nor family to turn to.”

abaybay on Jan 18, 2011 at 13:04:27

“Exactly. Of course it would be nice if he could excel in music and make it his career, but he is a dime a dozen. He can go home and try to get a job outside of the music industry--which is what a lot of aspiring musicians have to resort to doing. Homeless and tweeting just doesn't sound right in the same sentence.”

News Organizations Telling Staffers: No Stewart & Colbert Rallies

Commented Oct 14, 2010 at 16:06:59 in Media

“I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. None of the news agencies said anything about not reporting on it. They all said, or at the very least implied, that their employees are not allowed to actively participate or engage in political rallies of any sort. This isn't a new rule, and it's not just for THIS event. The reason being, it's hard to be an "impartial" news source if the people who work for you are so prominently choosing sides. That's the reason MSNBC (and I'm guessing FOX) allow their employees to participate on a "case-by-case" basis. They don't have to worry about appearing impartial, because we already know they are.”

SaddieMcCall on Oct 14, 2010 at 16:18:51

“If a person wanted to attend the rally as a member of the audience, no one would know who they are. I do not believe every employee at NPR holds the same political affilation and vote the same way. I wouldn't want them to.

Employees are not the property of the Corporations - they are entitled to their own personal beliefs and time to do what they want to do.

I doubt if anyone saw an NPR soundman off duty at the rally with his date, anyone would believe that suddenly means that NPR impartialiaty has been harmed.”

DeadlyGrim on Oct 14, 2010 at 16:13:22

“*know they aren't, I assume you meant.

But, yes, I agree. The news media is going to report this, they aren't going to participate, and most people here can't tell the difference.”
