The Indictment of America

“I wish that every American could read this article with an open and loving heart and mind; then there would be no doubt. People would see the truth, put away the fear and hate and move forward with the conviction, faith and drive that brought them to the polls in November. Do not fear change, embrace it! That's what we need.”
Stop Panicking About Obama

“Despite the fact that some Americans refuse to see, and even can't handle, the truth about our President I think your article is dead on. Great job, Mr. Heilbrunn! It's nice to find some journalism that is not pandering to the lunacy permeating the GOP, right-wing conservatives and bigots in the nation.”

“Mr. Penn, I found myself wanting to share this commentary with as many people as I possibly could, as these days it's rather hard to find the truth amongst all the hatred and political rhetoric. I think we have a jewel in President Obama. He’s smart, sensible and he truly cares about people and his country. That’s something new.
It aggravates me terribly to see how some in the media, and in government, try to turn everything he does and says into some sort of problem for America, or wrong against its citizens. In actuality, we haven’t had a President that truly cares as much as he does for quite some time. Yet, instead of appreciating his determination to turn things around for this country, for us, people choose to find fault in everything he does.
I’m so thankful that he and his family chose to take on this heavy burden. I’m beginning to believe, however, that it will surely be a thankless job for them...no matter the successes.
Keep on speaking the truth. We need much more of it.”

“Secondly, some people are going to find fault in whatever Pres. and Mrs. Obama do, despite all evidence to the contrary. You can't change them, so don't try. Otherwise, you end up mired in the same life of hate and resentment in which they dwell. Don't let them take you there! Their issues/problems are theirs, don't let them make them yours.”

“That is so true, we live in a fragile world as it is and we are always grasping for these moments. This one was captured and we can all look at it and feel relief that such a man as Barack Obama is our president. But you're right, the naysayers will wish to detract us day to day, the manufactured news stories and silly political divisiveness can dull an otherwise cloudless day. But America is learning that we can have confidence again in our president, that we can look forward with some delight and that we can overcome the poverty of thought, diplomacy and politics that encumbered us for the last eight years.”

Half-Baked in Alaska II: More Ethics Charges Unveiled Against Palin
Commented Nov 20, 2008 at 05:19:16 in Politics
“I find it truly hard to believe that anyone is seriously thinking about Sarah Palin as a future Presidential Nominee. If she is the best the Republican Party has to offer, I feel sorry for them because they're going to have a long, long wait before they can recuperate from such a fiasco as this. The lady is in no way ready for the national political scene. I find it amazing that she's even a governor. I don't know what the criteria was that got her elected as governor in Alaska anymore than I know the criteria which drove the McCain Campaign to choose her as their party's VP nominee. It's truly confounding.”

“She's governor of a state with a smaller population than El Paso spread oput over a territory larger than most of the lower 48. All it took was a few weeks of genuine scrutiny to show how unsuited she is to hold any office.
Her future will not be in national office. She will be a mouthpiece of the extreme Right, like Schlaffley, Hannity or Coulter. Speaking engagements and book tours funded by extremely rich Right-wingers like Schiaffe and Murduch will keep her in face lifts and Prada. She'll live a very well-funded life and be trotted out as needed to shill for the right-wing's candidates.”

“Is it not absolutely awful that Americans have to worry about elections being stolen? That fact in itself is indicative of the fact that change is desperately need in D.C. and in this country. Stolen elections should be the last thing Americans should have to worry about, but this is where the Republican Party has taken us. They are so desperate for power that they have been able to destroy one of our most sacred rights in the last eight years...ou r right to vote and demand change. Moreover, they have the nerve to insinuate that Sen. Obama is a socialist. In my mind, they are trying to create a dynasty or worse a communist nation. What absolute gull! I do not think the American people should simply sit by and let it happen. If this election is stolen, then it is time for us to act! I do not know how, but in some way to get the attention of the powers that be (Republicans) and let them know we are not going to stand for such despicable acts in this country.”

Obama Volunteer Rewarded With "VIP Seating" In Mud
Commented Oct 09, 2008 at 17:03:49 in Home
“I'm really sorry you had the experience you did with the mud. I really that the campaign had much to do with seating, or that they would have one of their finest supporters in the mud. It must have been disappointing. However, thank you for not letting it turn you off so much that you would abandon your efforts. Sometimes the biggest benefits that come from our actions are not those we see immediately, but those that come sometime later. Keep up the good work and stay true to yourself and this important campaign. I, for one, truly appreciate your dedication and I know that the Obama Campaign does.”

McCain's Childish Act Is Enough To Outsmart Media
Commented Sep 18, 2008 at 20:37:41 in Media
“I think that McCain is not only insisting on the Town Hall Meetings for the reasons suggested in the article, but also because he feels comfortable lying in that type of venue. He doesn't want to be put on the spot in a real debate, head to head, with both Barack and moderators, too. He thinks he's slick, but he's certainly not fooling everyone with his ridiculous yet obvious tricks. The media has gone along with McCain's antics during this campaign far to long. It's time for them to do their jobs and stop trying to manipulate the process. Share the facts and the truth. No more no less. If I can see through the gimmicks, the media certainly ought to be able to.”
Republicans Revive "Bittergate," Dems Flounder
Commented Sep 06, 2008 at 01:31:34 in Home
“All the Republicans have are buzz words, smears, a woman and an ability to ironically ...use the words and agenda of their opponent in an effort to win votes, while attacking the opponent for using them himself. Now, why is that and what kind of sense does it make? Their campaign and message is a convoluted, disorganized, misleading fallacy. It lacks substance and truth. So, why do people fall for such nonsense? Are concrete solutions and ideas not a priority, because they certainly haven’t been given any, other than those provided by their candidates’ opponents? And, the notion there’s something wrong with progressive thinkers is utter drivel. Call me progressive! I’d rather be progressive than stuck in the mud!
Republican voters are affected by the same issues and problems the democrats are. Yet, it doesn’t seem to matter that McCain doesn’t address nor have plans to correct them. So, why are they willing to accept the non-specific mudslinging message being offered to them? A campaign should address a candidate’s ideas and intentions in dealing with voters’ issues. Republicans seem to have no problem with the lack of concrete plans offered by their candidates in exchange for votes. Democrats have demanded answers and want to know what they get in return for their votes. One can only deduce that they’re voting for McCain because he’s a POW and a republican. We know why they’re excited about Palin…THEY HAVE NO CHOICE!”

“What a great article and a great incentive for electing this man as President. This explains so much of what most of us so-called Obamakins, or whatever other labels we've been given, understand and have tried to express these many months about our candidate. It also explains some of the reasons why we are so committed to having him as President of the United States. What a timely and informative article. Great job, Mr. Nye!”
Forget What Clinton Did Wrong. What Did Obama Do Right?
Commented Jun 10, 2008 at 22:31:29 in Home
“I am so glad that someone finally had the good sense to approach this story, rather than the constant barrage of stories about Clinton's mistakes. Barack Obama ran an excellent campaign; and though Clinton's mistakes may have contributed to his ability to win, they were certainly not the main reason this campaign was successful. Thanks, Ms. Hamsher, for finally bringing the more positive side of the story to light.”

Hillary: It Ain't Over Yet!
Commented Jun 04, 2008 at 15:02:36 in Home
“I can't believe that the Clintons can't see just how much this campaign, and their actions during it, has damaged their political lagacy. I think the last thing Sen. Obama should do is to bow to any pressure from the Clintons, or anyone else, to put Hillary on the ticket. She and Bill Clinton have shown him nothing but contempt and disrespect, behind his back of course, during this entire campaign. Last night and today are just further proof of that. I think the Clintons deserve what they have earned...a loss and a ticket back to New York. They're not about the "party," the "supporters" or this "country." Their motives are purely selfish. Hillary touts to her supporters constantly that it's all about them, but that, just like other statements she's made, is a lie. It's about Hillary and Bill. The supporters are simply a means to an end.”

“Maybe the time for discussion about race is growing nigh, but now is not time. Why muddy the waters of an already significantly muddied democratic-campaign process? It's like pouring more salt into the wound. There's a time and a place for everything, and as far as I know, no one has asked Mr. Wright to lead any discussion for any part of the population on any particular subject.”

“This was the same argument James Baldwin and his contemporaries faced in the 1960s from William Faulkner and others, delysia: you must wait. If now is not a good time to discuss race in a primary race prominently featuring a person of color, then WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME, delysia? This nation has had 400 YEARS TO FIND TIME TO DISCUSS RACE, and for the vast majority of that time it has deferred (the 1860s and the 1960s being exceptions).
There is more than enough time now to TRULY discuss ALL of the challenges that this nation faces, like war, peace, the economy, education, health care, the environment, energy policy, housing, urban and rural policies, and the like. ADULTS CAN MULTITASK, delysia. But to relegate race and prejudice "to the back of the bus" is to ignore a poison that spills into many of the aforementioned areas.
No, let's put EVERYTHING on the table and discuss it thoroughly and thoughtfully. I believe that this nation is mature enough to do that.”
