Annise Parker: Houston Voters May Elect Openly Gay Mayor
Commented Dec 12, 2009 at 19:25:37 in Politics
“It is not HuffPo or the AP who have sought to exploit Ms. Parker's sexuality. The issue became a matter of controversy when anti-gay forces in the Houston community-with support from outside-made her lesbianism an issue in an attempt to smear her. Fortunately, the majority of the citizens in Houston aren't buying into the hate-filled rhetoric. I send my advance congratulations to her.”
jlgcox replied on Dec 12, 2009 at 21:56:55
“I disagree with you on this one. The anti-gay forces only occurred within the last week. This story hit the national scene when national races were going on. Frankly, I live in Houston and have not seen much anti-gay campaign going on - it mainly was about her conservative stance when she was comptroller. The police department supported her opponent because she wanted to cut the budget.”

“It's kind of ironic to say that Levi Johnston doesn't visit FB. Almost immeadiately after the news broke that Bristol Palin was pregnant and he was the father, the Palin campaign had Levi's facebook page taken down! The comments and his info-typical for a kid his age-were thought to be an embarrassing liability for Palin. I say let him be. He might not be the brightest, but he knows which side his bread is buttered. Good for him.”

“I hope Levi finds his feet as he grows up. He was manipulated by the Palins and their handlers during last year's campaign.. and he continues to be manipulated. Why shouldn't we allow him the chance to get a bit of fame and some money. Maybe on the other side of that blank clueless stare there's a kid trying hard to make sense of what's going on. Maybe there's something there. He gets extra points for being so non-chalant about his gay fans. He didn't seem forced or scripted about it at all.”

“This is a question for which I've been trying to find an answer. I'm not particularly concerned that Mrs. Palin quit the Governorship of Alaska for "frivolous self-serving interests" Her motives are subject to speculation and a wide variety of opinions. It seems to me that a person does not deserve a lifelong honorific having quit their elected position without fulfilling even one term. It demeans the office and those others who have taken their duties to those that elected them seriously.”
sprtakis69 replied on Dec 04, 2009 at 03:52:49
“Man - I'm glad I wasn't the only one questioning her continued use of a title she gave up! It only makes sense that those who give up a position also give up the title. If a person were fired they'd lose the title. Only those who complete the job should continue to keep the title.”
Marilyn Monroe Smoking Marijuana (Allegedly) In Home Movie (VIDEO)
Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 06:47:53 in Entertainment
“It seems unlikely that a star of Marilyn's stature would be so willing to be happily captured on film smoking dope. Not only would it have landed her in jail, it would have cost her her career ala Robert Mitchum. Who know if Marilyn smoked dope? She probably had plenty of opportunities and may even have been pre-disposed, but does it matter? Not to me. The reason I was excited by this short clip is that it shows Marilyn completely at ease, smiling, laughing and shining so brightly. It made my day seem so much easier after watching her.”
Faxus replied on Dec 02, 2009 at 07:43:24
“She certainly could grab the camera by the lens. Did MM smoke? She smoked. A lot or a little? It does not make any difference. Marilyn suffered through a series of lousy psychotherapists who were more interested in the movie star than the real life Norma Jean. Pills and bad therapy killed Marilyn.”

Red Headed Boy Attacked: Police Probe Tie To 'Kick A Ginger Day' Message

“Another of of the stupid wide-spread viral-type meme's that are so popular in the current culture. It goes along with calling people and things "so g@y" or calling each other "f@gs. It's akin to the incredibly widespread use of the word "ret@rd as an epitaph for people and actions that are nothing more than mildly irritating.
It's not the makers of Southpark that are responsible for the "ginger" phenom. It's a mild but popular joke in Britain that has been bastardized by stupid Americans.”

“Bill O'Reilly has more influence over the center-right than the other brands. Moderate Republicans, who find themself in a political diaspora, are more likely to listen to his words rather than the more dangerous windbags. A couple of years ago Bill looked like a kook. Today he seems positvely reasonable when compared to the likes of Beck, Savage, Limbaugh and the others. Let's hope he's willing to pull a few more folks towards true reform.”

“I wouldn't exactly call Bill "more sane" but I wil hand this to him: He isn't so much of a demogogue that he would paint himself into a corner rather than admit he was wrong. Bill has lots of reasons to be friendlier to a public option than Limbaugh and Beck. For one, The Catholic Church's US Bishops would back a public option that "respected life". Their terms, of course, but they do not object to sharing the burden among all of us on idealogical grounds.

Fox Won't Broadcast Obama Speech To Congress
Commented Sep 05, 2009 at 07:31:36 in Media
“I have no desire to apoligize for FOX News, but I think most of the posters here have not read the story quite right. It is the Fox Broadcast affiliates who will not be showing the Presidents' speech to Congress. FOX News will indeed be airing it in it's entirity as the article says. Let's get out facts right before trying to shout down and bully those who we don't agree with.”
Jeni O'Callaghan replied on Sep 05, 2009 at 07:44:08
“I wonder how many people even actually read the article, instead of slamming on Fox. It's not Fox News that's not broadcasting the speech. It's Fox, the channel with such gems as American Idol and Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? You know, the channel you watch Family Guy and American Dad every Sunday without fail. So they decided that, without airing the speech, they can get better ratings by showing... whatever it is they show on Wednesday night. So far, it looks like "So You Think You Can Dance". It will probably get better ratings.”

The Republic has survived many an assault, but I fear that in may ways our nation is honestly on the road to disaster. The hatred and division that is being promulgated by the far right wing could well spill-out into public violence and even foster civil warfare. There are people in this country who's race hatred, fear of non-whites and lunatic misconceptions are making them more emboldened every day. We may have democracy and the traditon of our founding fathers on our side, but the ultra far right seem ready to use more than just shouting people down. I just don't hope they resort to mosing people down.”

O'Reilly, Beck, Olbermann and Maddow: Venomous Snakes?
