“The Faux protests were funded by billioniares and just coincidently sprang into being after the election of Americas first black president.

I don't remember any Tea Party protesters when Bush was spending Trillions on wars that he did not fund. I also hear the blame they give to President Obama for the TRAP bailouts which were initiated and put into action by Bush.

You can wear all of the revolutionary war costumes you want and wrap yourself up in an American flag but when your constituents bring racist signs and pack weapons at a protests, there is nothing patriotic about that. It's a phoney "grassroots" bought and paid for by billionaires and joined by people who can't stand the fact that they lost the election. They should get over that, there will be plenty of loses in the future.”

Health Care Reform: The End Is Nigh

Commented Dec 07, 2009 at 14:17:20 in Politics

“The President seems content to let the thing run it's course and that ultimately means that if anything is passed it will be a disappointment. It seems to me that either his conviction about real Health Care Reform wasn't that strong or he has been too busy with all of the other things on his plate to spend much time explaining his desires to the American people. Perhaps the few years he spent in the Senate tainted his views of the legislative process. What ever the reason, it feels like his optimism has waned and he's just going to let what ever happens happen.

Support will fall as progressives become unhappy with the way things are being carried out.”

TheHandyman replied on Dec 08, 2009 at 02:33:35

“The People should have known when he stood before Congress and said, " Single payer is the only solution to our health care crisis. If we were starting over that is the way we would go but now it is too difficult!" And then there was, "the health insurance companies provide a needed service!" He also said, " the health insurance companies are entitled to their profit!" The only truth he told during that speech wasthat single payer was the only solution. If fifty other countries can institute a single payer plan far superior to anything we have, or a national health service, then why is it too hard for us? The lie that kicked me in the gut is the one that says our lives and health are commodities to be bought and sold on wallstreet and success means us dying for their profit.

My candidate, Ralph Nader, predicted Obama would sell us out on this and everything else. So far he is batting a thousand. While I had hoped to be wrong about Obama, I am not so much disappointed in him as I am angry. But I do not feel betrayed for he was never my President anyway. It is too bad that the first black President has turned out to be no different than all the white Presidents before him! We hoped for a Lincoln, we got a Ford!”

jmpurser replied on Dec 07, 2009 at 14:43:11

“I think his "conviction" was that the market is always right therefore we just need to subsidize it to cover everyone. So instead of health care reform we're going to take the existing system and shovel tax dollars at it fast enough to cover everybody. Almost. The world's most expensive health care system just became a lot more expensive while still not providing universal coverage and we do nothing to either improve quality or hold costs down.

In a system so broken that just 8 months ago people were saying "anything would be an improvement" we may have just proven that wasn't so. We may have just made the whole thing worse.”

Two Common Sense Ways to Improve the Economy

Commented Dec 07, 2009 at 13:59:50 in Los Angeles

“This country has become an unfriendly place to be especially with the paranoia that we developed after 9-11 and the creation of the Homeland Security Department.

President Obama was well received by the rest of the world when he was elected and it appeared that he would change the negative trend Bush started. But in an internet world where our news is available for all to see, the angry crowds protesting anything the President does and the vociferous screaming by anti immigration lunatics do not present a pretty picture to potential visitors.

We may think of our country as the best country in the world, but that is not the universal opinion”

Is Tiger Woods at Risk of Losing His Endorsement Contracts?

Commented Dec 06, 2009 at 18:21:49 in Sports

“Tiger will have to be the one who puts this simmering caulderon of gossip down. Stonewalling won't do it , nor will written statements. It will have to be done because golf is not a game that plays well when your mind is not on the game. He has been arguablly the most popular and recognizable athletes in the world. If he can plead mea culpa or make some resolution with his wife that leaves him with some shread of decency, his game will bring his fans back and keep his sponsors happy.

What his personal life will be like I can't say, but those types of distractions aren't good on the game either..”

America Without a Middle Class

America Without a Middle Class

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 21:55:27 in Business

“It feels as if we have been literally ripped off. Many banks have profited greatly by the economic crisis and the years that led up to it. The housing market was allowed to over cook and mortgages were given out like halloween candy. The resulting collapse has left many Americans in trouble. Jobs have disappeared and even people who didn't get suckered by low interest rates are losing their homes to the same people who caused the crisis. Whether or not you lose your home it's worth less than it was before Now people are being forced to use life savings to live.

I watch the banks greedily spend our tax payer money on themselves. Goldman Sachs took the money given to them at a very low rate and reinvested it in Australian bonds at a much higher rate, not interested in reinvesting it back in America. Small business credit is non existant and business are forced to lay off people.

It feels as if the financial industry is now so global Americans don't matter any longer. Something can always be done cheaper elsewhere or for more profit elsewhere. Where does that put the middle class? Who will buy the goods the super rich sell? The Chinese? The Saudis?

It is time to realize that with the exception of small local banks,(if any still exist) and credit unions, the American Financial System no longer cares about Americans. It's time to stop treating them like they do and worry about ourselves.”

Mortgage Modification: Bank Bailouts By Another Name?

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 11:22:13 in Business

“By over cooking the housing market with the tacit approval of the Bush Administration the banking industry has essentially ripped off every American who owns a home. Whether or not it is underwater, it is worth less than it was. Banks, mortgage brokers, real-estate agents and builders all cashed in on the unending flow of money. Once the bubble burst and everything fell into the toilet, American taxpayer money was given to the banks. What do they do? Continue to rip off the American consumers by investing that money gotten at extremely low interest rates overseas while foreclosing on homes of those out of work because of the meltdown. All the while bankers keep getting their outrageous bonuses on top of indefensible salaries.

And Washington DC doesn't like to talk about hurting banks. Indeed.”

The Housing Crisis And Wall Street Shame (Or Lack Thereof)

Commented Nov 30, 2009 at 17:13:29 in Business

“I believe that Wall Street in general thinks that average Americans are chumps and that the world revolves around them. Money talks. This is why bailed out institutions feel justified to give away billion$ in taxpayer money as bonuses to the same people who created the collapse in the first place.

Thus far the "recovery" has been all about making the banks whole again. Congress has been able to keep getting their "campaign contributions" while average Americans get nothing.

The fact that banks are foreclosing on the loans of Americans who were laid off because of the banking institutions activities and greed is a travesty of justice.”

“In what way would the financial meltdown been any different with Hillary than President Obama? Hillary is as centerist as he is and probably would have most of the same advisors Obama has.

Job creation will be about opening the commercial credit markets which have been practically nonexistent since the crisis began. This may and area be where Obama has not had the best advise.”

Emerald1943 replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 11:36:18

“Absolutely! Open up credit for small business! That's where the job recovery will occur! The banks have taken the bailout money and used it to buy up other banks. They are sitting on the money and strangling what little recovery we have. The mistake here was not so much the bailout, but in not requiring them to actually make loans with it which was one of the reasons for the bailout to begin with.”

I wonder if she realizes that she has about a 20% approval rating and that most people think of her as unintelligent? I think that when she has a few thousand people going gaga over everything she says at some tea bag type rally that she believes everyone feels that way. She may actually be incapable of seeing outside her own bubble.”
