“It is apparent the author doesn't understand the dynamic in Michigan's 7th. In a recent Politico article, it was revealed that Mark Schauer has a staff of 10 in the field (comprising 7 counties, and a much more rural district than anyone perhaps realises). In any case I think the Politico piece argues the case that Mark Schauer would be safe even if Obama were to pull out of Michigan. Although the Obama staff is incredibly helpful, the Obama factor (read race) is a significant issue in the 7th District and there are many Schauer supporters who will be voting McCain this year. 2008's numbers will provide interesting data that will complicate the 2010 election more than we can possibly imagine.
