“I'm a Lefty, but to want to repeal the 2nd Amendment is to miss the whole point of the Constitution. It's about making sure the citizenry are armed as a check against the tyranny of government.

Remember June in Iran. Hardly any armed citizens, so the gov't felt free to crack down violently at will without fear of getting some of their own medicine back. You would not want to live in a country with the most powerful military with weaponry exclusively in the hands of the govt and the criminally inclined, while being an unarmed citizen.

The 2nd Amendment is a check /balance against govt. military power.”

“End of life counseling includes setting up medical directives in case a patient becomes unable to make their own decisions later in life. It's actually about the patient, ahead of time, while they're still coherent, getting to have the ultimate say in how their life ends. If Terri Schiavo had had the benefit of this type of prescribed setting, her wishes would have been known: either she'd have declared a DNR in writing or had a directive stating to use whatever medical means necessary to keep her alive.

It is precisely because she didn't have that kind of decision process formally documented that the government ended up intervening between a patient, her family and her doctor. Conservatives say their anger is about the government intervening. Then they intervene and justify it by saying intervention is ok so long as it's on the side of life. No.

If you're against government intervention in the decisions of grown people, you're against it. The test isn't whether or not it matches your own moral or ethical choices. That's what we liberals call hypocrisy. That's what you guys don't get - because "the right to life" trumps all.”
