“I don't recall anyone saying "planned". I do recall the ignoring of evidence as passed along by the Clinton Administration. ("There, you've covered your a$$" report). I even know that the investigation of Hassan' and his e-mail buddy started last year during Bush's administration; so who gets absolved by your logic?

And even Liberals have questioned Obama about the wars, the economy, and a whole lotta other things starting this summer. Which was before September.

And absolutely NONE of that is an excuse to say what she said. Her comment was at best moronic.”

“Isn't she of the political party who advertised heavily on the Never Forget theme?

Oooops.

I was always amused by that notion, as if in ten or fifteen years someone would say, "Remember whe those planes crashed into the WTC?" And someone would reply, "No, refresh my memory."

It seems I was wrong........”

“Well played.

An American Idol pre-fab pop star chooses to go all obvious and edgy (oooo) -- while staying true to his "Is It Still The '80's?" persona. Hey, the staging took attention away from his mediocre talent. And he got to capitalize on his orientation.

Had no clue it would cause controversy? He was counting on it.”

“From your link:
"Fifty-five percent of all Iowa residents, including Democrats, hold an unfavorable opinion of Palin, according to the poll, while only 8 percent say they are unsure about her. " What were the choices? Only Pro, Con, & Unsure? Was there a Neutral? The information is incomplete and therefore pretty meaningless.

Lies, dam (sic) lies, and statistics, as Mark Twain said; they can be used to "prove" most points. How many people in Iowa identify themselves as Republicans? That "as many as 68%" (is that like 'discounts up to 75%'?) does mean "as much as 68%" of XX% of the population.

The number shrinks.........”

I was flabbergasted by the number of people who assumed she was interested in him as a ticket to the US (well, besides the obvious insult). I pointed out that the young lady had been unemployed for some months, but was being paid 70% of her last salary by the government and that they had universal health care, not to mention that my son had gone THERE for a job. “I, too, have visited Alaska and was charmed by many of the people I met, in no small part because they were a bit 'out there'. I have this theory that the settlement across our country was something of a genetic expirement: didn't like the rules of Europe, sail to America, feeling a little hemmed in by the East Coast, head West. Those who still didn't feel comfortable went further West. The last "frontier" to be settled by European-Americans: Alaska!”

There are, however, major differences. Was it not Palin amongst the voices of lies on Death Panels. Was it not Palin who smiled brightly while her campaign crowds called for violence against Obama. Is it not Palin who blames everybody but herself for the majority of America's opinion of her and her actions. I, too, could go on....but they are obviosities....”

Berry and War Against Christmas types: the human race has always celebrated at this time of year. Christian Holidays are based on the calendar of the Old Religion. If you don't like that, please refrain from 'Christmas' trees, wreaths, holly, candles, special foods, and gifts (and bunnies & eggs come Easter), 'cause those all originated way, way, way BC. Or just embrace the celebration that has been continuous throughout our history marking whichever religion one holds.”

“The Tort Reform MadLib is a way to make the arguement against health care reform sound more reasonable. Unfortunately, the facts don't substantiate the claim that tort reform will have a major impact on health costs:

There hasn't been a big (or any) drop in medical costs in the states that have modified their tort laws, or maybe those patients just lost legal rights but din't gain lower costs? Medical malpractice claims, inflation-adjusted, are down 45 percent since 2000. Yet there has been no corresponding drop in health-care costs. Medical malpractice premiums are less than half of one percent of the country’s overall health care costs. Medical malpractice claims are a mere one-fifth of one percent of health care costs and at no time in more than 30 years have premiums and claims have never been greater than 1% of our nation’s health care costs. Medical malpractice insurer profits are higher than the rest of the property casualty industry, which has been remarkably profitable over the last five years. So Conservatives are upset about lawyers' profits but are quite happy about the insurance companies'?”

“"smear pattern"? (heavy sigh). Palin is not the only person to be pictured up close and pores exposed on a magazine cover. She is just the only one who complained or had complaints made on her behalf, to my knowledge.

My point was simply that if it's not sexism (or smear) when men are the object, then it's not when women are. Claiming otherwise is sexist. If women actually want equality, then don't cry 'foul' if you wouldn't for a man in the same situation. You can't be equal and special at the same time....as I was saying to George Orwell only the other day ;)”

“I'll see your snide nitpick and raise you:

There is no evidence that Marie Antoinette ever said the oft-quoted phrase. It was a common theme even when she was a nipper. Rousseau used it in his writings, for example.

Had she said it, she would not have used the word brioche (bun), but gateaux (cake).

Careful when you attack anyone's "education"; yours might be showing as well.”

“I consider the cover photo quite apt. Palin is all sizzle and no steak, one of those people who get by on looks and charm and allow the gullible to fill in all the blanks with whatever positive characteristics they want to be part of the package.

The pic has got sweet Fanny Adams to do with running, unless runners have taken to wearing hose on their jogs. It was staged, I would suspect by Palin as it is so obvious: Soldier's Mom banner over her sholder, flag draped to hand, busy-busy blackberries (2?!) to hand. Perhaps she had to be talked out of leaning her huntin' rifle against one leg. It's a study in unintentional self-parody.

And quite fitting to illustrate an article on the Problem that is Sarah as the picture fairly screams "Do you honestly think this person is equipped to lead?"

I recall a similiar kerfuffle when (Newsweek or Time?) had the close-up of her on the cover. Too close, it was said, it shows (horrors!) flaws. Sarah may be many things, but she isn't a delicate little flower. And if her looks weren't so much of what she has to "offer" (as it's certainly not knowledge), there wouldn't be so much concern over how she is pictured.

Ms. Marsh, please link to your articles decrying the sexism of the photos of Obama in the surf or Clinton/Bush in jogging shorts (sans hose, I hope). That would be equality.”

“We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, dmac. Even as you offer evidence of Newsweek's Palin smear pattern by referring to the face close up.

As for Obama's surf shots. I'd say Pres. Obama deserves some privacy on his vacation, at the very least. But I don't consider action shots "sexist."

That they are deluded enough to not notice or care what's going on behind the curtain is even more frightening.”
