“It is common knowledge here in Hawaii that some haoles (Caucasians) never get used to the fact that they are in the minority here, and am not at all surprised to know that Palin is one of them.
To be comfortable around others who are different that you are requires being a grounded person with a confidence in oneself and a genuine respect for the culture of others. Travel and exposure to other mores helps.
I find it a blessing that Hawaii exudes that respect for multiculturalism, exemplified by the way President Obama acts on the world stage.
Palin represents just the opposite, small town mentality that Sinclair Lewis wrote about at the turn of the last century...seems nothing much has changed in Hickville, USA. These are Palin's base.”
