Rupert Everett's Advice To Gay Actors: Stay In The Closet

Rupert Everett's Advice To Gay Actors: Stay In The Closet

“You didn't see "My Best Friend's Wedding", "Another Country" or "Inspector Gadget"? Speaking of the latter......I remember when I lived in Pittsburgh, that Rupert Everett was there filming "Inspector Gadget", and heard the rumors that he was hitting all the gay clubs in the city...”

“My Best Friend's Wedding scores a 74% at rottentomatoes.com

I saw Muriel's Wedding currently 90% at Rotten Tomatoes. A pretty much unknown, at that time, actress, Rachel Griffiths, had a supporting role. I recommend it.

I also saw the Wedding Banquet currently 94% at Rotten Tomatoes. It was directed by a relatively unknown, at that time, director, Ang Lee. If you have not seen The Wedding Banquet, I highly recommend it. I sent a number of people to see this one, including some straight people - one was a co-worker. She begged me for the promotional card I had from the movie. She was half Chinese and felt a particular affinity for the film. Of course, I melted and gave her my promo card.”

“Actually, I did see Inspector Gadget. Sorry, I only remember Matthew Broderick. Of course, seeing Matthew in Torch Song Trilogy sealed the deal for me. I wept over Matthew.”

wilray replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 12:34:55

“That is one of the things I especially admire about her. Montgomery Clift was about 12 years older than Liz, and he practically flaunted his male companion at her. I do think he may have done it just so young Elizabeth didn't entertain any fantasies. Yet, when Montgomery had his car accident, she rushed to his side and protected him from the photographers, and she also threatened them - she had clout. She refused to let any pictures be taken of Monty in that condition. Of course, that was yesteryear. Today, I doubt the paparazzi will be stopped with anything less than Smith & Wesson.”

“Tab Hunter kept his orientation secret until his mid-70's when he released his autobiography....it was a very interesting read.”

rzan1 replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 04:33:59

“Somewhat off topic, but my problem with Tab Hunter is not that he is gay but that he abused animals.”

XCITIZEN replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 01:07:24

“I highly recommend "Tab Hunter Confidential" to anyone who can get their hands on it, I agree it's fascinating. And when you read or hear the words of elders, most recently Meredith Baxter, about their experience of being gay, you always hear the same message:

Homophobia dramatically reduces the quality of life of gay people - and as far as I know, for most 'straights' that's A-OK.”
