“I hope you son is saved because of stem-cell research. This type of research was never banned by the Bush Administration. Bush even allowed for embryonic stem cell research. What he limited was adding new lines, not preventing the use of that already available. That he banned stem cell research is a common misconception (no pun intended..­..but it is kinda good) people hold. Of course a lot of this is moot since embryonic stem cell can now be created from non-embryonic sources.

Anyway my comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek, building off the Beck-Olbermann 10X's comment above. My intent is more to point out what value their is in intelligence. I've know many a pharmacist who can recall all kinds of facts. But ask them a question requiring them to think through using the facts? Not so much. You don't want someone intelligent, you want one that's smart.”

I'm not sure what you know about vaccines and immunity but there is a concept called "herd immunity". For example, if you are a resident of a nursing home and get about 80% or more vaccinated the remaining 20% have a much lower chance of getting an infection.

This would be true of any "herd" or grouping of individuals. Today the are innoculating middle school students where my wife works. She called me to ask what to do and I said......­."definite­ly". She is not yet 50 and did not receive the '76 vaccine.

I, on the other hand, have but 12 co-workers and a clientele of primarily senior citizens (who are not high risk). So if I don't get the vaccine (and I still may yet) that's 1 more dose of this limited availability vaccine that can be given to someone truly at high risk.”

“Now I may have missed this, but can anyone point me to where it has been verifiably stated that POTUS and his family have been vaccinated with the H1N1 vaccine? To date he has not brought forth, say, documents relating to his service in the Air National Guard. But if he does he'll be as meaningless as Dan Rather now is.”

“As an unabashed conservative I very, very rarely agreed with Dr. Hill. That being said I will miss Dr. Hill's appearances on FNC, especially on "THe O'Reilly Factor". How can I reconcile both statements honestly and truthfully?

First of all, his eloquence and personality were such that I did not find myself developing the reflexive personal hatred others are prone to do when others are holding an opposing point of view. Dr. Hill was also able to actually respond to a question when asked as opposed to many that simply filibuster and repeat non-responsive ideological position(s). Finally, I cannot recall Dr. Hill using half-truths or lies when debating a subject.

I do hope FNC can find an adequate replacement in the mold of Dr. Hill or Kirsten Powers, another FNC commentator able to admit when a conservative does something right or a progressive does something wrong. The cable world is way too full of unbending right- and left-wing ideologues.”

False Internet claims and rumors fly about McCain's running mate.
Summary
We’ve been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain’s running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

* Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she increased funding and signed a bill that will triple per-pupil funding over three years for special needs students with high-cost requirement.”

“The same way you might consider, say, MSNBC. If I choose to check into Countdown, you don't think I would need to look past Mr. Olbermann's partisanship? In all honesty it is very, very difficult for me to watch much, I suspect, as you would say of Glenn Beck.

I guess what I would want to know is what news network is consistently accurate? Frankly I would suggest that there is none, save local network news. But their coverage of items of national concern are quite limited.

Sometimes it is very hard work to find the truth. Wouldn't you agree, though, that it is especially necessary in the times in which we live?”

I have no problem discussing, debating - what have you - an individual of a different or opposing position. But how does one respond to post like yours? “If you're going to comment on something real, like the ACORN videos, then it is incumbent upon you to actually watch them first. No fair minded person, Republican or Democrat, conservative or progressive, can conclude anything other than the ACORN participants used extremely poor, if not criminal, judgment.

I'd also note that had this occurred in just 1 ACORN office that it would be an isolated incident and of little import. If just two, well maybe it is just coincidental. But more than three, on both coasts? That is a systemic problem.

If you can look yourself in the eye and simply dismiss what the ACORN videos proved, then you need to look into what has happened to your conscience. Feel free to mock Glenn Beck, the messenger of these videos. But as votes in both houses of Congress have shown, what Beck brought forth was of value and bore investigating further or they wouldn't have voted to cut off funding (and by a significant bipartisan majority).

So unless what was seen is proven false I'll be the "brave" one and state that I consider Glenn Beck a patriot for exposing government funded corruption and the 2 young people responsible for the videos heroic whistleblowers.”

“I believe you are forgetting to mention what people chose to re-elect a corrupt mayor who decided NOT to evacuate people until too late. When the people of New Orleans chose to do that I lost a significantly huge portion of the concern I felt for the people.”

“Please, I'm not suggesting that our President is corrupt in the least but do you recall what crime of President Nixon shortened his 2 terms? Lying about and covering up a political burglary of DNC Headquarters in DC. Because of his lies to the American people I do believe his removal from office was appropriate (as should have been the case with Clinton but I have chosen to move on - dot org). But if you look at the initial crime itself, was it really that significant? While not the norm, political parties today still indulge in political "dirty tricks".

My point? It didn't take a huge crime (like, say, $100,000 stashed in a refrigerator) to see Nixon fall. How significant a crime would it take for this President to fall? Seriously - so don't take for granted that this President will survive 7 years. (Note: for clarity I mean politically survive and NOT bodily)

I think it would behoove President Obama to begin a re-vetting of at least his inner circle to ensure he does not get ensnared in their possible problems. Previously I didn't think that there was "there" there. But the events or revelations of the past week have made me a little more attuned. While one can question the source, video and audio tapes just do not lie in this case.”

My real point? Quit wasting time and energy on the Republicans or Democrats are evil stuff. It's never going to be anything more than a p*ssing contest that does nothing to address the problems our democratic republic faces. Unless, that is, you wish to repeat the 60's all over again. Didn't you learn how divided this nation was? Remember? 1860's? Civil War?

If you believed in President Obama's hope and change message - live it. You know, like I HOPE all Americans will work to eliminate the divisive hate and CHANGE the atmosphere to one of unity and compromise.”
