“I love cooking and I cook from scratch. Every 2weeks I put up a soup (usually a bean and veggie w homemade stock) and freeze jars and pull one out the morning before on day I'm having a salad for dinner. Other nights I saute veggies w either some fish or 4 oz of meat and either add to some brown rice (cooked before) or some pasta”
Neanderthals Went Extinct Much Earlier Than Previously Thought, Fossil Study Suggests

Neanderthals Went Extinct Much Earlier Than Previously Thought, Fossil Study Suggests

Commented Feb 5, 2013 at 14:53:57 in Science

“Last week on a PBS program about the Neanderthals, some genetic scientists found that we modern humans have 2 -5 percent of Neanderthal genes. So there was interbreeding between Homo Sapiens and Neandertals. Europeans have the largest percentage, Asians the second most and Africans the least. And a number of those genes increase our resistance to some diseases like the Epstein Barr virus”

bobkdesign on Feb 5, 2013 at 15:18:16

“I've heard on PBS different stories about shared genetics. One show (granted older than the one you mention) very specifically said the two groups of humans met, but never interacted and there was no genetic signs of Neanderthal in our DNA.

I think the science is in flux, and is currently being debated. Will have to wait until a consensus is reached on the science before I buy into any theory.”

“Your conclusions are in error. All this proves is a common ancestor. After all, our DNA only differs from a Bonobo by about 1%. That doesn't prove humans and chimps have interbred.”

“For someone who has changed their diet and is having trouble w/ gas from eating more veggies, I recomend a probiotic supplement from a good supplement company (should be in refrigerated). Doing fermented veggies might be a little tough for someone having gas from veggies.
Once their digestive system is doing better, they can do a good organic yogurt that says that it has both live and active cultures... (most non-organic commerical yogurts don't have both)
They can then try some fremented veggies like kim chee or saurkaut...Here in NYC, the farmer's markets sell these.”

Fiber From Whole Grains Could Cut Colorectal Cancer Risk: Study

Fiber From Whole Grains Could Cut Colorectal Cancer Risk: Study

Commented Nov 14, 2011 at 17:12:00 in Healthy Living

“According to this article, whole grains have soluble fiber.
This is incorrect. With the exception of oats/oatmeal, whole grains are insoluble.

See from http://www.webmd.com/diet/fiber-health-benefits-11/insoluble-soluble-fiber
Soluble fibers attract water and form a gel, which slows down digestion.
Sources of soluble fiber: oatmeal, oat cereal, lentils, apples, oranges, pears, oat bran, strawberries, nuts, flaxseeds, beans, dried peas, blueberries, psyllium, cucumbers, celery, and carrots.
Sources of insoluble fiber: whole wheat, whole grains, wheat bran, corn bran, seeds, nuts, barley, couscous, brown rice, bulgur, zucchini, celery, broccoli, cabbage, onions, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, dark leafy vegetables, raisins, grapes, fruit, and root vegetable skins.

Please note that eating lots of vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruit will give you lots of fiber without the problem w/ increasing your glycemic load.

Also wheat, oats, barley, and other gluten grains, can cause inflammatory bowel disease in celiac suffers and maybe even colorectal cancer”
