“I agree that Tiger Woods is a great athlete but he’s more of a corporation than a person. You claim that it’s a strength to steer clear of controversy. Well, I say he’s lost his humanity and become essentially a corporate entity. I don’t begrudge him maximizing his profits but, like Goldman Sachs, I don’t have to admire them.

Legally, corporations are people and have the same rights; talk about transformers, Tiger has transformed into a corporation. Like corporations he steers clear of controversy (like not taking a position in the 2008 election and the issues mentioned in the article) because it would hurt a market segment. Profit is the keystone of a corporation. His handlers/managers will advise him not to take controversial positions because it might offend a market segment and hurt profits.

Like all significant corporations, yes, he even has a charity. But like corporations, he’ll get the most marketing impact by naming it the Tiger Woods Foundation. And yes, there are people like Warren Buffet who give their money to charities and don’t need to promote themselves. Oh, and the best charities to give to is children, people just swoon over that.

I would rather a celebrity take a moral stand and behave like a human being committed to a moral/ethical society than someone who is a creation of corporate handlers. I admire Tiger Woods as much as I admire Nike, Buick or Exxon-Mobil.”
