Obama is so much more polished and urbane, that it's hard to convince people that underneath the surface, he's just as regressive as Bush was. His words SOUND so fine that we con ourselves, again, and again, into believing them, just like the battered housewife who so desperately wants to believe that "this time baby, I'm really sorry, I've changed -- I promise!"

Progressives have been playing the hardass in all of this, demanding that the man (in fact, that the entire Democratic party) walk the walk instead of just talking the talk, before we commit one more thin dime to helping the D's. The DLC types may laugh off the progressive wing of the party, but here's a prediction for you: look how much hot air is going to be spilled paying at least lip service to progressive ideals once 2010 rolls around and the D's find themselves facing significant losses in the midterms without their most active and vocal supporters.

What Obama is is a master of the Great Stall.

What better way to string along your supporters (perfectly reasonable people), to try to get more people to give you the benefit of the doubt for not delivering on your promises than this perfectly reasonable notion that, "Those promises were then, when I was a candidate trying to get your vote, and this is now, when I am the president of every American, even those who didn't vote for me"?

It's a real disarmer, that phrase.

The problem is, that's a representative democracy, and that's not what we have. That's not how this government works. This is a democratic republic, which works by majority rule -- 50% plus one. And when your political party controls the legislative and executive branches of government, when that party was put in office specifically to achieve particular campaign promises and break the gridlock over these issues, Obama shouldn't be able to get away with misdirecting statements like, "I'm the president to all Americans."

Did you ever get a new job and when given the work you were hired to do, everyone phoned you to tell you how to do it, and people emailed you and asked you to please do the work, and people marched around with signs encouraging you to follow through on your work assignment, and thousands of people signed petitions indicating they would support you all the way if you just do your work, and, oh yeah, thousands of people sent you money for each assignment you were supposed to carry out?

Me neither.

Obama wanted the job. He got the job. Why isn't he just doing the job? I don't want to make phone calls or send emails or sign petitions or march around with signs or continue to send money. I just want him to do his job.”

The '08 election was a head-to-head between liberals & the DLC. The liberal base thought that voting for Obama meant hiring someone to fight for them against the corporations, & kicking out the DLC (Clintons). Knowledgeable liberals, that is. Unknowledgeable liberals still think Bill&Hill (& Obama) are liberals.

No sooner did Obama win than he hired Clintonites (DLC), & squeezed out HowardDean (responsible for the 50-state strategy that won it for Obama).

Obama stole the Clintons' strategy (to vanquish the left from the DemocraticParty, & bring in moderate Republican politicians & voters who can't abide the fringe rightwingers controlling the RepublicanParty). With some minor tweaks.

The Plan: Move the DemocraticParty to the right by alienating, marginalizing, breaking up the different interest groups within the liberal base of the DemocraticParty (civil libertarians, anti-war, pro-choice, etc.), drive them out of the party & bring moderate Republicans (both politicians who can't deal with the RepublicanParty's base, the evangelical Christians, who are controlling their party & moderate Republican voters, like SusanEisenhower) into the DemocraticParty. To have a centrist party which would govern for 100+ years.

This was the Clintons' plan (&why I think BillClinton was so angry with Obama) -- Because Obama stole the plan with a minor change; Obama's going for a couple of special interest groups within the RepublicanParty in a bigger way (defense industry hawks) & one group Clinton could never hope to bring over (Christian Republicans).”
