“Well, we have heard Democrats sound similar alarms in the past and they all turned out to be false. I'm not saying that it couldn't have happened buy I am skeptical. They have cried "Wolf!" too many times.”
“If you think that there is always a non-lethal option then you should pray that you don't find to the contrary.
A distraction? No. Merely pointing out that if you really wanted to save lives that there are other ways to do so. In this case, you prefer that 40,000 people die every year so you don't have to give up your freedom of driving where you want to go.
Admit it, the lives of those 40,000 people don't mean anything to you.”
“Independent of their purpose the fact is that more deaths are caused by cars then by firearms. There are fewer cars than firearms in the US. This means the death rate by motor vehicles in the US is higher than the death rate by firearms.
No, not all car owners are required to pay for insurance. It may be the case where you are but that does not apply to the rest of the country.
So what is you excuse for owning something that kills more than 40,000 people per year? Is this number of people an acceptable death toll because you want to be able to drive down to Starbucks for your Vente? Maybe it is acceptable to kill 40,000 people because you don't want the inconvenience of walking or taking public transportation.
No, dead is dead and it does not make any difference the mode.
You may not have used a firearm to protect your home but I have. Remember, when seconds count the police are only minutes away.”

“Are you being intentionally dense and pretend that you do not understand the difference between guns and cars? I do not want to have an argument about which one is more dangerous and whether they the same or not. That's a distraction, an intentional one, from the key problem: gun-control and that the more the better.
People who need guns for higher self-esteem can go to shooting ranges. People who need protection have plenty of non-lethal options.”
“Auto insurance is not a tax. Auto insurance is not required in all jurisdictions. I have lost friends to traffic accidents but none to firearms, either intentional or accidental. Traffic accidents kill and injure more people and cause more property damage each year than all firearms incidents combined. Approximately 125 people will die in traffic accidents within the next 24 hours. Tell me there isn't an impact on society outside of accident insurance.”
bluelyne on Mar 28, 2013 at 20:01:55
“Of course automobile accidents cause problems and money. We're talking about guns. Just because something causes problems, doesn't mean that anything goes for other problematic stuff. You need a car in most places to get around and to work. Unless you shoot everything you eat, you don't have to have a gun to survive in this country. You want a gun or feel you need one, but bottom line is you don't really need it. If you had to pick between your car and a gun, I think most people would choose their car because of how drastically your life would change without one. Unless you use a gun at your job, not owning one wouldn't change your everyday life at all. FYI - my 5th grade classmate was killed in an accidental gun accident. This was in 1960.”
“I think a tax should be introduced on car owners to make this money go to threat victims of vehicular accidents, drunk driving, speeding, and other reckless actions. If they want to have cool-looking toys they need to pay for the damages their toys inflict on the society.
What do you think IndependentShock? Are you ready to pay such a tax?”
IndependentShock on Mar 28, 2013 at 15:16:27
“Car owners are required to buy car insurance to pay to treat victims. Furthermore, there is a big difference between cars and guns. Cars' primary purpose is not killing people but driving them. Guns' only purpose is to kill. I repeat to kill. That their only purpose. The defense is not their purpose, it's a side effect of the fact that they can kill. With cars on the other hand, the fact that they kill is the side effect.
Enough? Or are you going to continue to pretend that there is no difference?”
bluelyne on Mar 28, 2013 at 11:26:07
“We already pay thousands in car insurance every year. Ever hear of uninsured motorists rates also? Gun owners pay nothing to possess and use a weapon that can kill more in 2 minutes than an auto can.”
“Well, Quasimoto, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights applies to all of us. Whether we have served or not everyone gets the same rights and protection under the law.
If you feel so strongly about rights applying to only veterans then yell at your Senators and Representative about those that are here illegally and are getting the benefits that we have worked hard to earn.”
Donaldo Gomez on Dec 21, 2012 at 02:59:17
“I salute Quasimoto. I too walked alongside the bravest and best.It is a damn good thing you don't have to take a citizenship test you would flunk so fffffnnn badly it isnt even funny. Example: the rights in the constitution and bill of rights apply equally to those illlegals you dislike.
Your support for a pantspooping draft dodging pedophile like Nugent is eloquent testimony to what a poor understanding of our nation you have.”
Quasimoto on Dec 20, 2012 at 12:58:27
“I'm not saying rights should only apply to veterans. My wife never served, and she deserves her rights. I just think that if someone feels so strongly about their rights, maybe they should demonstrate their patriotism by serving their country. I enjoy the freedom and the right to ride my motorcycles all over this beautiful land of ours. So serving in the Army seemed worth it to me. JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".”
“DAJ - You totally missed the point of my post. I said nothing about her qualifications. (I don't think she is qualified but it is not my point here.) What I said was that I was offended by the ARTICLE about her. The ARTICLE pushed the Latina angle.
We need to stop thinking in terms of my group, your group, her group, or his group. We are ONE group, Americans.”
“I am offended by this article because Sotomayor is referred to as a Latina and not an American. She may be from Puerto Rico but she is an American citizen, is she not? She may be of Spanish heritage but she is, or should be, consider first as an American.
It is time to stop dividing our citizenry into fractured groups. The Supreme Court was established to make sure that our laws are in line with the Constitution and that these laws are applied equally to all not just to special interest groups. This applies to all people no matter what their heritage, color, race, or religion.”

“I did not suggest that 100 armed citizens pull out rifles and unleash a hail of bullets. This is your talk. Don't put words in my mouth. One person is not 100.
Apparently you have no knowledge on the subject of fire arms. Whether a rifle is semi-automatic, bolt action, lever action, or slide action, has no impact on the hunter's ability to hit his target.
I recommend that you apply your comments to subject of which you have some knowledge.”
brensea on Jul 27, 2012 at 14:08:08
“If you a half way decent shooter you do no need a semi-automatic rifle with a 20, 30 or 100 magazine to kill a deer, or any other animial. And I do know the difference between a semi-automatic, bolt action, lever action, slide action as well as a fully automatic weapon. I would venture to say I fired more rounds in a year in nam than you have fired in your entire life, Any one that thinks he can shoot a armed suspect in a darken theater, with pantic people scrambling to get out and ducking the suspects hail of bullets without endangering more people than the orginial shooter is just plain nuts. If the shoe fits. Wear it.”
“Obama's comment about the AK-47 is intended to convey the message that these should not be in the hands of private citizens by implying you are a soldier or a criminal if you own one. No one in their right mind would think that this should be in the hands of criminals but criminals don't care if you are in your right mind or not. There is no reason to not allow citizens to own an AK-47 if they have gone through the proper checks have the proper licenses. AK-47s require a federal Class III license and you have to pay a $2,000 tax for the privilege of making the purchase.
Why is Obama bringing up AK-47? He mentioned the AK-47 because it is the symbol the associated with communists and terrorists from the Middle East.
HuffPost - The AK-47 is a fully automatic assault rifle. The AR-15 semi-automatic and not an assault rifle. No matter what it looks like the AR-15 is a sporting rifle intended for civilian use. A federal Class III license is not required.
If Holmes is found guilty then punishment should be swift and severe. Liberals should not complain if the people want to take him to a public location for execution of sentence. In my opinion his life should end hanging from a rope.
If there had been one legally armed and trained citizen in that theater much of this tragedy would have been avoided.”
brensea on Jul 26, 2012 at 14:03:46
“Maybe 100 armed citizens should have pull out their AR-15 and unleased a hail of bullets in the theater. Wonder how many other people would have be hit? If you need a semi-automatic rifle to shoot a deer you sure as heck could never hit a person that was shooting back at you.”
“If these voters are illegitimate (your word) then they do not have the right to vote. If they are not citizens of this country then the cannot vote. This is the law. Perhaps you do not care about this. However, if one of these illegal aliens came to your house and robbed it would you give them a pass or would you want them prosecuted? My guess is the latter. If they do not belong in this country then they do not have the right to decide who runs it and who makes the laws. This is only common sense.
If you have people that are here illegally how do you think they will vote? The will vote for things that favor them not you or me or other citizens. If they are here illegally then they have already shown their disdain for the law. Is that the kind of person that you want to decide your future?”
“No one is collecting poll taxes. Eric Holder calling the requirement to provide a proper ID a poll tax does not make it so. Smarten up.”

Wouldn't it be ironic though if you are one the ones denied the vote due to Republicans voter suppression efforts”

“if it cost $30 for an ID or $50 for a copy of your birth certificate then it IS a poll tax. what's wrong with an electric bill to prove who you are? Poor people can't afford those costs. Most poor and minorities vote democratic. It is voter suppression pure and simple and it's a GD national disgrace.”
“Reallly, you have no kind of ID at all? I realize the your Social Security card is not supposed to be used as an identification but you don't even have that? It that is the case then you aren't old enough to work therefore probably not old enough to vote. You don't have a drivers license? Depending on where you live you probably can go to your local registry of motor vehicles to get a a state issued ID. If you cannot find a way to get a government issued ID then you probably shouldn't vote.”

“Cancer is a terrible thing. My father died of it, my father-in-law died of it, my wife is a survivor.
What is missing from this story is some history on Ilyana. We know the end result. What we don't know is what preceded it. Did she have regular doctor visits and annual physicals? Is this something that was missed? Did she not see a doctor regularly, therefore complicating matters?
Yes, more research is needed to find a cure. On this point I do agree. However, this might have been avoidable but we won't know because too many people are looking to blame someone else.”
LungCancerHawaii on Aug 17, 2012 at 17:09:25
“ducpilot, Unfortunately, there are no screening guidelines for lung cancer, unless you are over 55 and have a history of heavy smoking (and even then, it is not covered by most insurers). Symptoms of LC don't usually manifest until the cancer is in late stages. So, even if Ilyana saw her physician regularly, chances are her diagnosis would still have been too late.
Research funding leads to lung cancer screening tests. Change is needed NOW!”

“I have read Anderson's book and highly recommend it. In spite of what Dogmudgeon says, this book does not say that if you are fat, you are bad, therefore you must be punished. Anderson takes the opposite approach, you are fat because you overeat so figure out why you overeat and change that behavior.
In fact, this concept applies to many addictive habits and I recommend the book even if you don't have a weight problem. If you have other bad habits you want to break read the book.
There is no political agenda here, just common sense.”

“So Cara Santa Maria needs to take a deep breath. Yes, Rush mistakenly called her Susan rather than Sandra. This is not a world shaking event like Obama saying he had visited 57 states and had one more to go.
There is nothing in the Limbaugh statements that Santa Maria quoted that says anything about using contraception only when she has sex. Although if she chose a "morning after pill" that is how it would be taken. These statements also do not mention oral contraceptives. If she was dependent on condoms then yes they are used only when having sex.
Georgtown University has four insurance plans. Three include coverage for contraceptives. The fourth plan which is the one Fluke has will cover oral contraceptives if they are prescribed for something other than contraception. If they are prescribed for control of ovarian cysts then they would be covered under her plan.
Georgetown University is a Catholic institution run by the Jesuit order. The Church, therefore the Jesuits, is against contraception so it offers one insurance plan that does not directly cover contraceptives. No one seems to care that there are three options. Ms. Fluke wants the US Government to intervene and force the university into doing something the Church considers to be immoral.
She is nothing but a trouble maker and deserves our disdain.”

“I am so thankful for receiving the comments that I did. It just re-enforces Margaret Sanger's assertion that feeble minded people, such as my correspondents, should not be allowed to breed.
If Fluke and the university were of one mind then there would not be this issue to discuss.
The Catholic church as been trying to take over the world for 2,000 years, really? What has JNeal been smoking? The Church is not trying to take over the US Government it is the other way around.
Please send me more comments to show me your lack of intelligence.”

“Here's a problem. The Catholic church has spent the last two thousand years trying to take over the world in various ways. Using your logic, if the church succeds in gaining control of our government, such as by electing a president who slavishly follows what the Pope has to say, then non Catholics are going to lose a lot of rights. I view this as a disgraceful result.”
