“If no one nominated Nico Pitney for his great work live blogging the election "unrest" in Iran, then I will. In the area of media, this is new to me; never before have I had the opportunity to read so much information collected so quickly regarding one topic. Without the use of current communication this blog would have been far more difficult. By using all available resources to gather and one powerful tool to distribute this information, Nico influenced not only the media, but also the way people choose to make a difference. A personal 'Thank you' to Nico; half of my family is in Iran and it was comforting to know I could get some information, any information from such a reliable professional. Nice work!”

“There was a town hall meeting that my friend attended in Wisconsin that was controlled and polite, as well. There were, of course, people whose questions led her to believe that they opposed the bill, but they were respectful and didn't cause trouble or prevent the representative (Sensenbrenner) from answering questions, with a few exceptions. The fervor is being excellerated by the coverage.”

I do not understand how anyone that is rationale do not have a problem with the officer falsifying information and abusing his power...I would feel incensed if this was a white person as well...”

“Hear, hear! They WERE stupid. Police abuse their position of power all the time. I am not someone who's been arrested or had trouble, but on the few occasions where I've been in situations where the police have been involved, they have acted very badly. It may be in bad manners to yell at the police, but it's not illegal. I would be infuriated if I were Mr. Gates, also. This man was in his own home, if he wanted to act disorderly, isn't your home the place to do so? As long as he wasn't putting anyone else in harm's way or threatening, I don't see any reason he should have been detained or even ticketed. I think it's counterproductive to call it a racial issue at this point. That will only add un-needed attention ot the race issue and deter us from seeing that police need to be reigned in and put back in their place. "Protect and Serve" is their motto.”

“Politicians will be popular when they set aside their own, sometimes far-leaning, beliefs. Politicians will be effective when they represent the interests of whatever group of people elected their butts to represent them. Not the other way around. How refreshing would it be if we had officials who stopped preaching about their own beliefs, hoping they've appealed to enough votes, instead of announcing "My constituents want me to vote 'no'." I don't personally agree with everything I have to do at my job, but it's my job. If I want to keep it, I realize that I don't have to practice those own things in my personal life and do what I'm paid for.
Officials who have "played the part" to become elected ruins our country. It's not solely responsible, but it doesn't afford success to the process of democracy as it was intended for our country. "We the people"? Wake up, get educated and make your votes powerful again.
Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green... Your advice would be sound for any; to educate herself and surround herself with experienced people and learn how to speak logically. You never mention to represent her people. You just tell her how to win and that doesn't mean she will do her job. The exception would obviously be for her to run somewhere where the people share her beliefs more often than they don't and she leads by default.
But as president? She's has a long way to go.”

“OK, so I think Gil is a tool, but I do like the President and I think that expecting him to champion the cause of legalizing would be too much for his administration right now. Cut him some slack; he's been in office a few months and has other very important things to deal with. If he were to champion this fight, we would lose the support of many moderate Republicans that he has now. Remember people, he MUST have an agenda, an order if you will, to solving our woes if he is to be effective at all.
In the meantime, get active. Encourage every single friend you know who smokes or supports legalization (or at least decriminalization) to become a member of NORML. Help the numbers rise to monumental heights so that as a body, they have no choice but to recognize how many people in this country support this change. Chances are, they've paid pretty for a nice bud or two - maybe they'd donate $5 to a cause that could potentially lower our obscene prison costs and our idea of "criminals". Politicians lose credibility when we speak out in great numbers against them. They are no longer representing their citizens; they're not doing their jobs.
I still stand by my long voiced statement that if all the smokers/supporters took one step forward and stopped being afraid of admitting to something so innocuous, this would change. Our strength as a country has always been in our numbers.”

“So far, I've only read comments to the contrary. I honor each and every one of the American soldiers, whether they go into combat or not (I can only speak for myself). I think this goes to show that corrupt power can lead HONORABLE people into dark, dark waters. Because they're honorable, they know better and have had a hard time living any other than an honorable way. Imagine knowing something like this and knowing if you say something, you'll either not be believe, or you will be punished. “I obviously have a position on this issue, but to me the important thing is that we are talking about it! We're not just talking, we're talking MORE and MORE about it! MORE and MORE of us are talking about it!! At some point, those who support legalization (or at the very least, decriminalization) will out number those who oppose. The old crusty folks will move on to the next great destination and our opportunity to abolish these ridiculous and archaic laws will be closer at hand.
I don't remember the exact number of fine American citizens who asked BO on his internet forum about MJ, but they were many. What about next time and the time after that? Are we ALL going to do our part and send just one little email? It's sad that some of us have to hide and keep our mouths shut out of fear of legal trouble, but at some point we've got to let go of our fears. THAT is how change is made. It's not brave it you're not afraid. What a silly plant to be so afraid of!
To those of you who are convinced that it would only lead to more addiction and destruction, relax. If you're an addict, you're an addict. Ask any addict - ask anyone who is related to an addict... Grass isn't their enemy.
Thank you, Chief Stamper. You're just being honest, and you are, after all, the professional.”

First off, I'm not running and have no plans to run for President. So my qualifications for that office are irrelevant.
Second, doing nothing as a state congressman (except fighting to allow the murder of children who survive abortions) and taking up space for 2 years as a US Senator doesn't really qualify him. Especially since he ran against Alan Keyes for the seat. Oh and remember how he forced the opening of sealed court documents against his previous opponent? This from the party who are always screaming about the right to privacy.
The previous administration didn't destroy the economy, stop lying about that. The problems that now exist started in the Carted administration and have grown and festered through each one since then. Unfortunately, Obama's "remedies" are going to lead to less production and higher inflation. In the end, government will be in control of everything, and everyone will be worse off.

I've worked with too many architects and engineers who may have masters and PhD's and can't design their way out of a paper bag, much less anything that will be built. I'm happy with my accomplishment and my current situation, and I didn't arrive there by living on government handouts.”

People don't choose fundamentalist religions because they offer freedom; they choose them because they offer limits - sometimes extreme ones - and that says something about the rationality and coping skills of those who adopt them.”
