“Guns? Who do you think helps finance all the new microwave-based crowd control we,apons that nobody in the media likes to talk about? The rich are now prepared to use the latest technology to defend their ill-got-ten gains, and they have paid off enough government officials to make it happen. What's coming is a class wa.r that most Americans will find horr.ifying.”

“All that crowd control technology is fine. So long as the crowd isn't past the point of caring and just starts shooting the microwave van up with heavy calibre bullets (How many cases of those do private citizens own? I've seen both incendiaries and tracers for sale). Proof these things aren't much good is the fact they don't get used in those places where folks are more than angry (Afghanistan and Iraq). The rules will be torn up. In the end, it will come down to the question of who the national guard and army units decide deserve their support. Ordinary people (hundreds of millions) or the elite (10-20000).”

“In reply to your post below:
Do you understand the concept of corruption? Corruption happens in government when the official in power gets money to make some aspect of government favor business deals over the needs of the individual citizen. Corruption is the problem in any complaint about supposed costs and can be weeded out if the citizens insist, although this is uncharacteristic of our lazy and corporately-controlled citizenry.

And to compare ANY of those other governments to the US is apples and oranges. They don't have any of our history, their social systems aren't even remotely connected to ours by dint of their histories or evolutions, and on and on, so to compare any of them with our country is bogus at best.

And there is nothing stopping you from getting whatever insurance you want for your family. But anyone with two eyes and half a brain can see that the concept of socialized medicine works EVERYWHERE it is in place, and the US is shooting itself in the foot by not instituting it.”

“Sorry, Big Government is for the good of the commons, Big Business is for the good of the top 1%. There is waste in government, given, and many businessmen-in-disguise posing as representatives of the electorate, which in reality they are not. They are profiteers who see government as their slush fund.

The problem is not in the concept of government social programs, which are in existence due to the historically vile way the top 1% has behaved. The problem is in the lazy and sometimes laughable "oversight" of the costs associated with the programs by agencies who apparently can't be bothered to watch over the people's purse.

But we can, and should, have these programs as part of the common benefits of paying taxes and being citizens. As recent events have shown us, capitalism is collapsible at the whim of the upper crust, who can not be trusted even less than "big government".”

“If what you say is true, then why the tragic failure of Mao, Lenin, Fidel, Robert Mugabe and all the Latin American and African countries run from the top down? Where in history is the great success?

And are you saying that I should give up my free choice to a government bureaucrat to make the BEST health care, energy, food, etc. choice for my well-being and that of my family? And if so, what's my incentive to go out and work hard, when I know that whatever I do doesn't matter for me, it's what the government bureaucrat likes?

Sounds like George Orwell's "1984" and "Animal Farm" resonates more with you than the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.”

“Checking who takes money from which corporations told me everything I need to know about why the Dems, not the Repugs, are stalling health care reform. It takes very little research nowadays to get the figures of what companies are paying off which senators and congress members, and it's beyond appalling. I won't be voting for anyone who hasn't been pushing for Medicare for all or single payer. Period.

Poll after poll shows about 70% of voters across the political spectrum want national health insurance. People of either party aren't stupid, and they see how much money goes down a rathole in the name of senseless and unjustifiable military expenditures.

When are we going to take care of our workhorses - the citizens of this country? When are we going to quit acting like the Roman Empire, draining ourselves of all our resources until we crumble and blow away in the wind, all because these corporate lackeys we call Congress won't do the right thing and eliminate this tremendous national problem?

In any case, I let go of the worry about the Dems I helped vote into office. Most of them have shown their true colors, and I'll be looking long and hard for progressive replacements, and people with b*lls of steel who can say no to corporate payoffs.”

“OOOOOh! Aren't YOU the voice of responsibility!

Look, Mr. I'm A Number Not A Name, have you even bothered to check out what life is like in factory towns where everyone who lived there worked for a corporation who off-shored all the jobs so their shareholders could get richer on the backs of slave labor overseas? There are no jobs, there are literally thousands of people milling around trying to wash each other's laundry or mow each others lawns for small change, because that's all anyone has.

Now, maybe you have a job that is safe, for now, or you may even be one of those CEO's or shareholders taking advantage of the rest of the world's willingness to exploit their populations, but you have NO right to pop off with ridiculous bromides that neither apply nor add any solutions to the problem. So do us a favor and can it.”

“Oh, please. I've been in professional theatre for 25 years now. I've always worked with a wide variety of bi-gay-straight people. The bi folks decide who they're going to date at any given moment on any given night, in other words, they CHOOSE who they want to be with.

One friend of mine who dated mostly men ended up marrying an actress he fell in love with and they now have three children and are very happy. Are you trying to say he married her because he didn't have a choice? That it was a compulsion? Ridiculous. He chose. It is disingenuous to claim that you don't choose because you are born straight, gay or bi. Everyone is born something, and they make their choices from there.”

Idea1013 replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 22:01:53

“"Are you trying to say he married her because he didn't have a choice? That it was a compulsion?"

Your statements are both ridiculous and disingenuous. Yes, we CHOOSE who we marry (unless of course you are gay and therefore not allowed to marry); we do not CHOOSE who we are initially attracted to. Do you choose to be attracted to Sally, but not attracted to Susie? If you believe that you choose who you are attracted to, fine- I'm certainly not going to change your mind.

"The bi folks decide who they're going to date at any given moment on any given night."

Don't you choose who to date? I know I do. But I don't choose who I am attracted to- this is the difference I'm trying to clarify for you.”

“Eventually, what will be "not to like" is the ghost town your city will become when there are no more sales jobs, repair shops, specialty dealers, shopping malls or downtown districts to visit and enjoy, nor all the coffee shops, small restaurants and bakeries, interesting boutiques, barbershops, beauty parlors etc. that catered to all the people of your town who used to have a job in the local economy.

So you saved a few bucks, while the cumulative effect of following your "online shopping" advice broke down the fabric of life in your town. What a great bonus.”
